They use linear transducers or sensors to accurately measure and communicate the piston's position within the cylinder back to the overall hydraulic system. Have a look at this innovative design, master and slave cylinders working in perfect harmony. Once bolted together, oil is fed through a custom port manifold mounted on the shaft of the master cylinder passing oil through the center of the hollow shaft to the slave cylinder - this is the perfect design when you have minimal space to work with in the mounting area, effectively doubling your stroke length in the same closed centers measurement of having a solo cylinder mounted.
