The Rural Connectivity Group has achieved a major milestone for rural connectivity with the official opening of the 500th RCG tower yesterday at Anawhata, West Auckland as part of the Government’s Rural Broadband and Mobile Black Spots programme. The tower provides broadband connectivity to this coastal community sitting between Piha and Bethells Beach on Auckland’s west coast in the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park. Media and Communications Minister Paul Goldsmith attended and cut the ribbon to officially open the site, addressing the importance of delivering better connectivity to Anawhata and other rural communities across New Zealand. The tower site has 30 solar panels and a back-up power generator, helping people stay connected for longer in the event of outages and severe weather events. CIP is proud to have worked with The RCG and WISPs around the country providing rural communities with improved broadband, and increased safety on rural roads and at tourism locations. 1,481km of State Highway have gained mobile coverage increasing safety on some of New Zealand’s most dangerous roads and159 tourism spots now have mobile coverage. 84,300 rural homes and businesses now have access to new or improved broadband across the Rural Broadband programme. Last week at the 2024 INFINZ awards, CIP’s Wellington Sludge project won Debt Deal of the Year. According to the judges, CIP’s crowning feat were tenor, size, and tranches structured to fit lenders. Additionally, CIP was commended by the judges for the sustainability of this project, including prudential risk management of funding and interest rate risk. This transaction was impressive for pushing the boundaries of tenor of funding and risk management. This innovative and well-structured deal is an excellent place setter for New Zealand's quest for affordable, sustainable, and intergenerational infrastructure funding. A big congratulations to Sean Wynne, Andrew McGavin, Kathryn Mitchell, Kate Broadhurst, Ngahuia Leighton, and everyone involved who worked on the project! #CrownInfrastructurePartners #INFINZ #BuildingTheFuture #InfrastructureFunding
