A heartfelt thank you to Sealy, our Gold Partner, who continue to do their annual Sealy Designer Bed Campaign. This year Sealy was delighted to collaborate with another beloved and iconic New Zealand brand, Wallace Cotton. The 2024 Designer Bed campaign showcases two bespoke Sealy Posturepedic Exquisite beds, which were auctioned in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With Sealy’s incredible support they have donated $25,000 for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ to support breast cancer education, research, and patient support 🎀💗

We are thrilled to announce the successful collaboration between Breast Cancer Foundation NZ and Ads on Pads in September. We were extremely grateful to be Ads on Pads first collaborator in their official launch, to stock 100 dispensers with free period products in over 50 busy bathrooms throughout Auckland University. The dispensers and products were branded with early detection and Know Your Normal messaging, to encourage people to know the normal look and feel of their breasts, touch and look regularly and to see their GP if they notice a change. Key achievements and impact: • 4.2% increase in those that had checked their breasts in the last 3 months. • Our touch, look and check messaging was viewed over 200,000 times. • Over 13,000 free period products given away. A big thank you to Aditi and Ads on Pads for this opportunity, these insights showcase how impactful our combined efforts have been in raising awareness for early detection, bringing us closer to our goal of zero deaths from breast cancer while also increasing access to free period products.

We are so sad to hear about the passing of Nikki Kaye. Nikki worked with us to provide strategic advice to help guide our advocacy work and we’ve admired how deeply she cared about improving the lives of women affected by breast cancer. Justine Smyth, Chair of Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, said: “We're profoundly saddened by the passing of Nikki Kaye. She generously gave her time and expertise to help us call for changes so that more Kiwis can get diagnosed earlier and have better access to treatments. We’ll forever be grateful for the guidance and wisdom Nikki shared with us.” Our thoughts are with Nikki’s friends, whānau and loved ones at this difficult time.

A huge thank you to HomeMade Digital and Strategic Grants for hosting such an insightful fundraising workshop in Auckland last week! A few of our team members at Breast Cancer Foundation NZ had the opportunity to attend, and we walked away with valuable strategies and new ideas to further enhance our fundraising efforts. At Breast Cancer Foundation NZ we are always looking for ways to improve and grow, and this workshop provided the perfect opportunity for learning and networking with like-minded professionals in the not-for-profit sector. We’re excited to apply what we’ve learned and continue working toward making an even bigger impact in the community and work towards of our goal of zero deaths from breast cancer.

Yesterday marked a momentous day in early detection with the launch of the breast screening age extension, which raises the limit from 69 to 74! For eight years, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ has advocated for this change, and we are excited to see the roll-out begin in Nelson-Marlborough this year, with plans for national expansion in late 2025. We extend our gratitude to Health Minister Dr. Shane Reti for his unwavering support of this initiative, both in opposition and now in Government, and appreciate the Government's commitment to fulfilling its election promise. The national extension will allow an additional 60,000 women to be eligible for screening annually, providing women in their early 70s with opportunities for earlier diagnosis and treatment, ultimately saving lives across Aotearoa. Last week, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, alongside a specialist team of surgeons and nurses from Counties Manukau DHB, hosted an information evening all about breast reconstruction following breast cancer surgery. Patients heard about a range of surgical procedures including implant reconstruction and autologous reconstruction using a person’s own tissue. The panel of experts fielded many questions including "What kind of surgery is right for me? When should I have breast reconstruction? And what about my other breast?" It was a wonderful, informative event organised by Breast Cancer Foundation specialist nurse Louise Bobbitt. Special thanks to the wonderful women who came and shared their journey with reconstruction and the choices they made. Your stories were invaluable for those on a similar journey. For more information about breast reconstruction, you can visit our website. https://lnkd.in/gWn8u3hP

We have absolutely loved working with Ogilvy NZ and Spark Foundry NZ on the #NormalForMe campaign From brainstorming to final execution, it is so rewarding to see the vision come to life! Breast Cancer Foundation Marketing Manager Jacquie Jardine says, "this campaign is a different approach for the Foundation, but we knew it was vital for this campaign to break through all of the other noise people are experiencing each day, and we feel this campaign does just that. It was great to have Ogilvy with us each step of the journey " This campaign not only showcases our shared vision but also exemplifies the power of trust and collaboration in achieving opportunities for reaching audiences and raising awareness so that we can achieve our goal of zero deaths from breast cancer.
