The NZDEN team has been on the go today, celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) in full force! Fresh off his flight from the ILO Global Business and Disability Network conference in Geneva, our Chief Executive, Phil Turner, headed straight to Waikato for the HiNZ Digital Health Week NZ expo and events. But first, we couldn’t celebrate IDPD without stopping by the incredible Air New Zealand Enable Christmas Markets. As always, the Air NZ crew did a fantastic job creating a vibrant, festive atmosphere, showcasing products crafted by talented disabled creators. Tomorrow, Phil will be a panelist at Digital Health Week, speaking on Unlocking Accessibility and Inclusion to Enable Equity in Digital Health. If you’re attending the expo, visit us at the NZDEN stand (87-88). You might even snag some of our special IDPD jelly beans! We look forward to seeing you there. #IDPD2024 #IDPD #NZDEN Air New Zealand Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD) Phil Turner

Today, 3 December, is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). ♿ At NZDEN, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of tāngata whaikaha (disabled people) to our society and reaffirm our commitment to championing the creation of inclusive and accessible spaces for everyone. With 1.1 million disabled New Zealanders, it is essential to continue breaking down barriers to ensure everyone can thrive. By fostering environments where disability and neurodiversity inclusion are central to our practices, we contribute to a more equitable and empowered future for all. Let’s continue to make change, not just today, but every day—within our workplaces and across our communities. We are Stronger Together! Image description: A graphic with a purple background featuring the text 'Stronger Together' in bold white letters at the top. Below it reads, 'We’re proudly supporting International Day of Persons with Disabilities' in white text, with 'Persons with Disabilities' emphasised in bold. The date '3 December' is highlighted in a blue oval. There is a subtle rendition of the IDPD icon behind the text. The left side displays the IDPD logo device, a colourful circular graphic with overlapping orange, green, blue, and red arcs surrounding a central blue dot, symbolising inclusion and connection. To the right, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities logo is shown with the same colourful graphic and the text '3 December.' In the bottom right corner is the New Zealand Disability Employers’ Network logo, featuring three stylised overlapping shapes in purple, blue, magenta and yellow, representing the taurapa (stern/tail) of two waka. #IDPD #IDPD2024 #DisabilityInclusion

Tomorrow is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) As we prepare to recognise this important day, let’s reflect on how we, as individuals and organisations, create a more inclusive and accessible world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, and feel valued. Let’s take a moment to listen, learn, and act to remove barriers—not just physical ones, but attitudinal ones too. We look forward to celebrating IDPD with you tomorrow! Image description: Graphic promoting the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December. The design features a purple circular background on the left with white text that reads, 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December.' Below, there is a blue rounded rectangle with the URL 'nzden.org.nz/idpd' in black text. On the right, there is a faded back rendition of the IDPD logo device - a colourful abstract design of overlapping hands in pastel green, peach, pink, and blue encircling a blue circle. At the bottom right, the logo of the New Zealand Disability Employers’ Network is displayed. #IDPD2024 #IDPD

Chief Executive at NZ Disability Employers' Network (home of the Accessibility Tick). Helping NZ organisations to be more disability and neurodiversity inclusive.
We are underway with the ILO Global Business and Disability Network conference. Starting off with a speech from the ILO’s Director General, Gilbert F. Houngbo. A key takeaway included the ILO’s focus on moving to more concrete measures for disability inclusion in business as progress hasn’t been fast enough. We have a diverse agenda, but also a lot of opportunity for networking. What information would you like me to bring back to NZ? #enable2work #GBDN2024

This month, our blog is around psychological safety - a term that is making its way into the rhetoric of businesses globally. It’s something that we, at the NZDEN, talk about with our network. Read the blog on our website: https://lnkd.in/gzNgZhRj Image description: A bright blue note placed on an open spiral notebook. The note reads 'Psychological Safety' in bold white letters and includes small hand-drawn icons of a brain, heart, shield, and other decorative elements. A blue pen lies across the notebook. A turquoise mug with a textured pattern is visible in the background, along with blurred greenery and a woven placemat, creating a calm and professional setting.

We would like to encourage our neurodivergent followers and also our followers with DEI roles to complete the 2025 City and Guild Neurodiversity Index Survey. A UK based survey, it will help inform their 2025 Neurodiversity Report globally, bringing attention to neurodiversity in the workplace for individuals and organisations. It takes less than 15 minutes to complete - https://lnkd.in/egjee9GR Input is vital from employers, employees and organisations alike, and will make a lasting impact on shaping and championing the lived experience of neurodivergent employees to create a more inclusive workplace. Please share this wide. Thanks Sandra Whitehead and Prof. Amanda Kirby MBBS MRCGP PhD FCGI for providing the link to your New Zealand family.

We encourage every business interested in improving their disability inclusion to get someone to log into this. Even if it is only for a few hours each evening due to the time difference.
