About us
The NZEA is a voluntary organisation formed under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on 12 September 2005. The Association was established as the New Zealand Association of Event Professionals (NZAEP) in response to industry demand for a recognised body to represent the burgeoning events industry in New Zealand. The Association's principle was to bring professionals together to focus on the industry as a whole and to act as a voice for that industry and its 1,100+ members. The NZ Events Association (NZEA formerly NZAEP), our new name reflects simply both our members and the ever changing face of the dynamic events sector of New Zealand.

Whitianga Oceans Festival were the worthy recipients of the Best Sustainability Initiative 2024 Award. Recognising the plight of the local scallop fishery, organisers bravely sought to morph the strong heritage brand of the Whitianga Scallop Festival to the Whitianga Oceans Festival. Along with the name change came a shift in focus to sustainable food sources and supporting local iwi, Ngāti Hei’s, Rahui initiative. This approach ensured very positive stakeholder and community engagement and participation, and high levels of out of region visitation. A further partnership with LegaSea – an organisation dedicated to restoring the abundance New Zealand’s marine environment - reinforced the sustainability message in both a practical and achievable way.
