Our construction industry has a lot of resources. When constructing, reusing, retrofitting and maintaining….there are off-cuts, flashings, old cables, primary & secondary structures, metallic roofing and claddings, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems plus their fittings, facade shading systems, worn-out tools and batteries……at their final end of life we can create recycled resources from them. If we keep chucking these resources in the singular site waste skip bin the recycling journey is longer or maybe not even recycled at all; ending up in our landfills. We want to make sure everyone on site knows the right thing to do with metals. We have a local and global industry set up to recycle our built infrastructure that’s been doing it very effectively for a very long time. There are loads of resources in construction materials we can extract to make our products of the future. We need to procure differently. The Demolition phase needs more time so it’s a de-construction phase. Encourage Site-Specific-Resource-Recovery plans. We need space and time on construction sites to have the constructors sort our resources at source. If we get this right we can achieve high diversion rates when we construct. It was fantastic to connect with so many Drive Electric members and sustainability partners at our EOY event last night! Over 100 people attended the fun event, generously hosted by the wonderful team at Ecotricity NZ. Thank you DJ Karan Bhatia from Smartrak, whose set was powered by recycled solar panels and an EV. And a special shout-out to Gavin Shoebridge for sharing your wealth of EV knowledge during the fireside Q&A chat with Brian Dewil — we can't wait to watch the replay of your honest and entertaining responses soon. In the meantime, Gav's videos are a must-watch! https://lnkd.in/gVGaKXTp #DriveElectric #EVecosystem #Aotearoa #Sustainability #EndOfYearEvent #ecotricity #solarpower #EV

At Phoenix, we believe in redefining the way we think about resources. In a world overflowing with possessions, the time has come to transform what we already have into what we need for the future. From batteries and drones to computers and cars, we specialise in recycling almost everything! By extracting valuable materials from old items, we ensure they are redirected to where they are needed most - creating new, innovative products without further depleting our planet's precious resources. Food for thought as we head into Christmas and consumption ramps up. Let's embrace a circular economy where sustainability drives progress, and waste becomes opportunity. The future starts here. Thank you to all the organisations we are working with to help spread the word on the value of recycled materials and the circular economy. Welcome aboard Akarana Marine Sports Charitable Trust! #aluminiumRecycling
Introducing Cans for Kai, a new initiative by KAI IKA that transforms consumer waste into community treasure. We're excited to announce that you can now drop off your aluminium cans at Akarana Eatery! In partnership with Phoenix Recycling Group, LegaSea New Zealand, and Papatūānuku Kōkiri Marae, this initiative supports whānau and community groups in South Auckland. Aluminium cans collected at various locations, including ours, are sold to generate funds that directly benefit these communities. 👉 How can you help? Bring your empty aluminium cans to the collection cages located by the stairs to the right of Akarana Eatery. Let’s work together to make a difference—one can at a time! ♻️

And just like that Sam Woolford - Cans for Kai has reached Eden Park, New Zealand! Recycling cans for social good. Collaborating with LegaSea New Zealand and the The Kai Ika Project for the last year on this initiative. Every cage feeds 16 families. We are so proud to be a downstream recycling partner! #sustainableInitiative #feedFamilies #canRecycling #AluminiumRecycling
We’re excited to announce that Eden Park, New Zealand has partnered with LegaSea New Zealand to make a lasting impact in the Tāmaki Makaurau community. Since 2016, LegaSea’s Kai Ika Project has been repurposing fish waste to provide food for families in South Auckland, while their Cans for Kai initiative collects aluminium cans to fund these efforts. Now, Eden Park is proudly supporting this mission by installing two Cans for Kai recycling cages at the stadium - one at our community garden on Walters Road, and another by the cricket nets on Sandringham Road. As New Zealand’s national stadium, Eden Park has always been committed to giving back to the community. As a charitable trust, we’re focused on sustainability and making a positive difference in the lives of those around us. This partnership with LegaSea is a perfect example of how we can reduce waste while supporting initiatives that provide food to those in need and help strengthen local connections. By contributing your cans, you’re helping us create a more sustainable future and making a tangible difference in our community. We’re proud to play a part in this important cause. Every can counts.
