Supermarkets are in the ComCom spotlight this Christmas 👇
The Commerce Commission is showing no signs of slowing down in the lead up to Christmas. It announced this morning that it is filing criminal charges against Woolworths NZ and two Pak’nSave stores in relation to alleged inaccurate pricing and misleading specials. We can expect to see continued enforcement action in the grocery sector with the Commission also confirming it has other ongoing investigations into supermarket operators.

We're pleased to have assisted Inter Ikea to co-lead Nilo’s $13 million Series A capital raise 🙌 Corporate partner James Hawes, who led the deal says: "The current economic climate is making it tougher for startups to raise capital, but startups with a compelling product and clear path to profitability can still attract investor attention.” Nilo is a clean tech company that has developed a patented technology that converts plastic waste into a low-carbon fibreboard adhesive. Nilo’s adhesive can be used as a replacement for urea formaldehyde, which is commonly used for wood fibreboard products. Ikea spends around US $300 million per year on fibreboard adhesive. Global regulators have mandated a minimum 50% reduction of formaldehyde emissions from wood fibreboard products and using Nilo’s adhesive instead will allow Ikea to make significant environmental improvements. 🌿 Solicitor Jayne Barclay from our corporate team also worked on this transaction. A new Government Tax and Social Policy Work Programme has just been released 🎺 It is the first such programme to be issued by the coalition Government. The Work Programme is a high-level, 2-page document, and it's important because it sets the agenda for significant tax policy development in the short and medium term. It is in effect a direction from Government for prioritisation of tax reform measures to be taken forward by Inland Revenue Policy and Strategy. In these articles, our tax experts look at two significant and welcome areas of focus identified in the Work Programme: reviews of certain tax settings for infrastructure projects and the notorious Foreign Investment Fund (FIF) rules.
