  • Transporting a load higher than five metres? Stay safe around electricity by applying for a High Load Permit. If your load or vehicle is taller than our power lines, we may need to lift the lines in some areas or provide an escort to guide you safely along your journey. • With warmer weather already here this summer, it is important to keep trees clear of power lines. Overgrown trees and vegetation can cause power outages, safety issues and even fires. Recent updates to safety regulations have increased the minimum safe distances between trees and power lines. Take a moment to check your property to help keep power flowing to your home and community. Here is how you can help: - Plant wisely: Avoid planting near power lines or choose the right species. Check our planting guide on our website. - Check your property: Regularly look for overgrown vegetation. Keep it at least four metres clear of power lines. - Call in the experts: Need trimming or cutting done on your property? Contact your local arborist - they will work with us to make sure it is done safely. - Report problem trees: Spot a tree touching power lines somewhere else? Let us know! - Know your responsibilities: Property owners must keep trees clear of power lines and underground cables. Failing to do so could result in costs or fines. “We love trees at Unison, but we need your help to manage their growth near power lines. By working together, we can reduce the number of unplanned power outages and safety incidents," says Unison General Manager Network and Operations, Gaganpreet Chadha. • It was great to host Transpower New Zealand’s Board and Executive teams in Hawke’s Bay recently, where we took the opportunity to visit some of the key sites powering our region. The group visited Transpower’s Redclyffe substation where they saw firsthand the scale of damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle and the remedial work undertaken so far, and together viewed the first stage of progress of the permanent rebuild on the way to a more resilient energy future. The group also visited our award-winning Windsor switchroom and Camberley Substation rebuild where we shared learnings on sustainable, cost-effective approaches to infrastructure projects. It was a good chance to celebrate the mahi done so far, while solidifying sector partnerships as we work together to deliver more resilient networks for energy consumers. • Congratulations Golflands and No.5 Cafe & Larder! Winners of the Resilient Business Award at this year's Pan Pac Hawke's Bay Business Awards. They earned the Resilient Business Award by rallying after Cyclone Gabrielle's devastation. With a "Build Back Better" mindset, Johnny and Sarah led the team in supporting one another and prioritising restoration. They focused first on reopening the golf business, then enhancing customer experiences through a redesign. The team stayed together, tackling everything from clean-up to rebuilding. Golflands reintroduced its restaurant, business facilities and sports areas to an even higher standard, adding new features like a pickleball court and a future marquee site. Now stronger than before, Golflands exemplifies resilience. At Unison, we understand the importance of resilience. We are fortunate to play a role in enabling a sustainable energy future for our regions, working alongside our business community to understand their plans and aspirations to ensure we have a strong, resilient network to power growth and prosperity well into the future. We are proud to sponsor this Resilient Business Award and support our local business community. Well, it’s not every day we open a power station, but today we did! Our new geothermal power station at Tauhara will at peak produce 174 megawatts (MW) of electricity – that’s enough power for around 200,000 Kiwi homes. This morning the Rt Hon Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister; MP for Taupō Louise Upston, our people, tangata whenua and the local community came together to mark the official opening of our of power station at Tauhara. It’s a standout renewable energy project and will be a fantastic long-term asset for New Zealand. A HUGE shout out to the 4,000 people who, over the past three and a half years, played a role in developing the station. Your hard mahi, dedication and tenacity are greatly appreciated 👏 Craig Woolacott Corey Wynne Jack Ariel John Clark Jacqui Nelson Sumitomo Corporation Unison Networks Ltd Transpower New Zealand
