On the first Monday of 2025, we delivered our electricity safety education programme to the Tūpore Infrastructure Limited team in Hawke's Bay, engaging with around 50 people. The Tūpore team learnt practical tips to stay safe while working near electricity, helping make sure they return home safely every day. Our 'Be Aware, Electricity Kills' programme is designed for third-party companies and industries in our areas like forestry, scaffolding, roading and water companies. It promotes safe working practices and raises awareness of the services we provide to help keep everyone safe around electricity. Want to register your team for a visit? Are you planning on planting near power lines? It is important to know what is safe and what is not. Even if planting season is still a little way off, it’s never too early to plan ahead. Keeping corridors free of vegetation and being mindful of where you plant near power lines can make a significant difference. We recommend property owners avoid planting near lines altogether if you can. If this is not possible, it is important to select the right species for planting. Overgrown vegetation like trees, hedges, vines or plants near power lines can cause power outages, safety issues and even fires. We have been proud to support EnergyMate NZ since its pilot programme in 2019, and it is fantastic to see the continued mahi of the EnergyMate coaches making a difference in our communities. If you or someone you know are struggling with power bills or just want to understand your energy options better, Colin the Energy Coach has some great advice! Check out his latest videos and resources at the link in the post below. #EnergyMate #PoweringThrivingRegions
We achieved a lot last year through the aroha, mātauranga and hard mahi of our EnergyMate coaches. We had generous financial support from ERANZ members, lines companies, Government and some councils as well. Colin the Energy Coach has also been out there leading our new consumer care programme. Since December he’s been answering online questions about how to understand your bill, pick the right plan and save some money. He’s also talked a lot about all the social media impressions he’s making! The campaign aside, our EnergyMate coaches are now all gearing up to get out into their communities to help households that are struggling to pay their power bills. Camberley Substation Update – Buckets of progress Shoutout to our team up in the bucket truck carrying out live line work to safely disconnect a 33kV cable from the overhead lines. This important work is another step in the process of connecting the new substation to the surrounding network as we work towards bringing the substation online. When complete, the new substation will make our network stronger and provide more capacity, supporting growth in the area and delivering reliable power to homes and businesses for years to come. It is great to hit the ground running this year, as we look forward to another year of delivering for our community. Overgrown vegetation like trees, hedges, vines and plants near power lines can cause power outages, safety issues and even fires. As a property owner, it is your responsibility to keep vegetation clear of power lines to protect your home and community. Did you know? Recent regulation updates now require greater distance between trees and power lines. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gW4qxK4a Take a moment to check your property and help keep power flowing safely. If your trees are too close to power lines, contact your local arborist for cutting or trimming. They will get in touch with us before starting to ensure it is done safely. If we contact you about trees on your property, cutting or trimming them as soon as possible helps reduce power outages and keeps everyone safe. #KeepTreesClearofPowerLines #StaySafeAroundElectricity #PoweringThrivingRegions
