  • Our destructive pole testing project, launched last year, is helping us better understand how well timber poles withstand heavy loads and how long they’ll last. We’ve made major upgrades to our Hawke’s Bay testing rig, making it more stable, sustainable, and built to deliver reliable insights for years to come. The rig was even constructed using recycled materials, including repurposed steel. This testing helps us improve pole replacement planning, ensuring our network remains safe, reliable, and proactively maintained. Different regions have unique challenges—soil, air, and even insects impact how long poles last, so testing in each area gives us the best insights. Watch the video below to hear Unison’s Asset Strategy and Constraints Team Leader Mitch Graham talk more about this process. #Unison #PowerPoleTesting #Sustainability #HawkesBay #Rotorua Gaganpreet Chadha Jaun Park

We were proud to support the Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust (HBRHT) Open Day on Saturday! As an Associate Sponsor and supporter of the Trust for 25 years, we teamed up for the second year in a row with Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) and Hato Hone St John (HHSJ) to deliver a live demonstration on electrical safety during emergencies. The scenario? A car crashed into a power pole, trapping the driver and passenger. Our Unison team stepped in to demonstrate our critical steps - contacting the control room, earthing down the lines, and carefully removing the pole with a crane. The key message to the large crowd: always treat power lines as live, to stay alive. A huge thank you to FENZ, HHSJ and HBRHT for the collaboration. We are proud to be part of this important community event, helping raise awareness and keep people safe. #HawkesBayRescueHelicopter #OpenDay #StaySafeAroundElectricity #PoweringThrivingRegions

  • Need support with your power bill? ERANZ has created a handy online resource with information on support options - from electricity retailers to government and community assistance. One of these options is EnergyMate NZ, a service delivered through in-home coaching and community hui to help whānau get the most out of their electricity. For some, that means a reduced power bill, for others, it’s a warmer, drier, healthier home. We've proudly supported EnergyMate since its pilot programme in 2019 and have now extended it across all our regions. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gMg-aPXi Check out ERANZ's new resource at the link in the post below! #EnergyEfficiency #PoweringThrivingRegions

Having trouble paying your power bill? ERANZ has produced a new online resource for consumers who may be finding it difficult to pay their electricity bill. It introduces various sources of support with ways for consumers to find out more online. The resource covers a range of available support options. Some of these come from the big companies that generate electricity and/or sell it to consumers. Others are provided by the government or community organisations. You are welcome to download and share Having trouble paying your power bill? as widely as you like, or you could add it to the resources you share with consumers in hardship. Last Friday, our Procurement and People, Safety & Culture teams joined the Maraetōtara Tree Trust for an afternoon of hands-on conservation work at Te Awanga. As the Principal Partner of the Trust, we are proud to support their efforts to restore the Maraetōtara River, where over 180,000 native trees and flaxes have been planted since 2002. The focus of the day was releasing, clearing vegetation around young native plants to give them the best chance to thrive. It was a great opportunity to contribute to the restoration of the river’s ecosystem while learning more about the Trust’s important work. This volunteering effort also marked two years since Cyclone Gabrielle, a fitting opportunity to celebrate the Trust's progress since this devastating event. A huge thanks to the Maraetōtara Tree Trust and our volunteers for making a difference in our community. See some of the highlights from the day below! #Maraetotara #TreeTrust #GreatPlacetoWork #PoweringThrivingRegions
