👏 Congratulations to our very own legal team, who were crowned Energy In-House Team of the Year at last night’s New Zealand Law Awards. We’ve always known they do amazing work and are great people too, so it’s nice to see this being recognised! Creating a new energy future
About us
We are New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas, owning and operating networks which span the Auckland region. Our vision is to create a new energy future, by identifying and developing solutions that provide customers with value, choice and reliability. We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands. As governments, businesses and consumers urgently take action to decarbonise, at Vector we are clear on our vision – creating a new energy future.

🏃♀️ Last Wednesday evening, a group of eager participants gathered to take part in the yearly Corporate 5km event in the Domain. Once again it did not disappoint. The rain from earlier in the day cleared for a perfect evening, ideal for all walkers and runners to enjoy. Really great to catch up with our colleagues away from our desks, challenging ourselves in a slightly different way. Thank you to our fantastic team leader organisers, Angela Doone and Jasmita Parag for rallying the troops and making it happen once again, and to all the enthusiastic volunteers for helping set up our area, complete with bbq and sausages! #teamwork #challengeyourself #corporate5km

🔐Yesterday for our speaker series at our Auckland offices we welcomed Craig Adams, chief product officer at Rapid7, a cyber security solutions company that we partner with. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to hear from our very own Aaron McKeown, chief information security officer, alongside Craig who was visiting from the US, as they chatted about the role of cybersecurity in the ever-changing security landscape and also shared their views on some of the trending topics within the industry. It was a really engaging and entertaining chat that covered a lot; from the increasing role that artificial intelligence (AI) has to play within cybersecurity, to the automation of security tasks within businesses at different stages of their cybersecurity journey. They chatted about the growing similarities between information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT), and finally touched on the importance of defining what good cybersecurity looks like, linking this to the expected introduction of cybersecurity regulation here in NZ over the next 12-24 months and what this will mean for the industry. 👏 Thank you to Aaron and Craig! #Cybersecurity #SpeakerSeries #BusinessSecurity #AI

Are you planning a new project where you’ll be digging up the ground? Whether you're a contractor, utility worker or homeowner, safe digging is essential to protect the underground infrastructure, avoid costly repairs, and most importantly, keep everyone safe. To check what’s lying below the ground, all you need to do is get the underground plans from beforeUdig. They work with multiple infrastructure providers (gas, electricity, fibre and water) to bring all the relevant information together in one place, so you can be sure that there’s no utility cables or pipes in your project area. So whether it’s for your own project, or you’re chatting to someone who’s planning on doing some digging, make sure everyone’s aware of beforeUdig and the responsibility for checking where the pipes are. Let's work together to keep everybody safe when digging. ➡ Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g9nweaUX #safediggingmonth #safedigging #collaboration #beforeudig

👷♀️ 👷♂️ Great video from one of our contractors, Omexom New Zealand's (Electrix), which takes a look behind the scenes into their trainee programme. An ongoing thank you from us, to all the teams working across the electricity network here in Auckland to keep power flowing to homes and businesses. #energyfuture #youngtalent #careers
Last week, Omexom New Zealand (Electrix) was super excited to be announced winner in various categories of the Connexis Line and Cable Jointer Competition held in Te Awamutu. Our team, consisting of line mechanics and cable jointers worked hard to hone their skills and solidfy their teamwork prior to the competition. But everyone has to start somewhere, and that somewhere is our trainee programme where we take in eager young Kiwis with an interest in the electricity supply industry, and a desire to help New Zealand achieve the energy transition. Here's a glimpse into the early life of a line mechanic, cable jointer, faultsperson, equipment operator and the many other roles that our trainees graduate into. 🎶 Vector Lights on the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge is celebrating Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour this week! Hosted at Eden Park, New Zealand, the record-breaking concert is a showcase of not just legendary music but sustainability initiatives. Guided by three key principles of reduce, reinvent, and restore, the tour aims to be as sustainable and low-carbon as possible. Did you know the production has solar photovoltaic panels installed in the build-up to each show and the show batteries start charging as soon as the team arrive at the venue. These alone can power the entire concert, sharing the vision of a smart energy future! ✨ #vectorlights with Auckland Council and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi

👷Underground electricity cables, gas pipes and fibre cables could be anywhere - under your lawn, deck or driveway. If you dig into equipment and damage it, not only could it cause an injury, but it could also cut off vital electricity, gas and data communications services. While November is Safe Digging Month, following safe digging practices is a priority all year long and we’re proud to support beforeUdig alongside other major players in the industry, to raise awareness about the importance of safe digging and damage prevention. Life isn’t like a Minesweeper game, you can’t just reset and try again if you accidentally hit something! 👀 Take a look at this year's awareness video that for some, may bring back a sense of nostalgia. Give it a share and let’s work together to keep everyone safe! ▶️Learn more about safe digging and get your plans at: https://lnkd.in/g9nweaUX #SafeDiggingMonth #SafetyPractices #MinesweeperChallenge #beforeUdig

🚛 One of our contractors, Omexom, is rolling out some new truck technology to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, thanks to an innovative electrical battery device called electrical power take-off (e-PTO). This technology means that work can now take place without having to keep the truck’s engine on, which is better for the environment and also results in less noise for everyone, including our customers. This change marks a significant step toward reducing Omexom and Vector's carbon emissions while enhancing operational efficiency. Great work to all involved! 🌟 Another year of colourful and joyful celebrations for Diwali here at Vector! Last week, we came together, to celebrate the Festival of Lights. Although the ancient festival has different meanings for different people and different cultures, it shares the common underlying theme of the victory of good over evil, denoted by the victory of light over darkness. Stories were shared, hands were henna’d and sari draping lessons were shown - complete with a little competition. For many of us, it was quite the surprise to learn that there are around 108 ways to wear a sari! We were lucky enough to finish the celebrations sharing traditional food together. 🙌 Big thanks to everyone who helped to organise this event and to everyone who came along to be a part of it. Like all good festivals – better together! #Diwali #CulturalCelebration #BetterTogether Anitha N. Teina Teariki Mana Helena Chan Shriji M Kashmira More Harsha Kardile Jenny Wood Manisha Kumar
