  • Introducing Accrete Plumbing, our latest Aquacomb Approved installers in the Wellington region. Recently, Kane from Accrete learned how to install over 4,000L of water detention using Aquacomb in the slab. • Last week, we were proud to sponsor and join fellow Young Water Professionals on a tour of the Wellington Waterfront, where we learned about the history of our lost local streams. A big thank you to Water New Zealand and Stu Farrant for hosting us and inspiring us to consider the long-term ecological impacts when designing new infrastructure. It was an invaluable experience that reinforced the importance of sustainable, forward-thinking approaches in our industry. #YoungWaterProfessionals #Sustainability #InfrastructureDesign #WaterNZ #EcologicalImpact

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the Young Water Professionals Waterfront Walk! With Stu Farrant, we retraced the paths of our ‘lost’ urban awa—Kumutoto, Waikoukou, Waimapihi, Moturoa, and Waitangi—and explored their history, ecological significance, and the role they continue to play in discharging water into the great harbour of Tara. This engaging walk highlighted the importance of Te Mana o te Wai, how past decisions have shaped our landscapes, and the opportunities we have today to create a sustainable future for urban waterways. At Shed 22 Lauren Carter – Wellington YWP chair elect welcomed everyone to a great evening of networking. A special thanks to Morphum Environmental for sponsoring the walk and to Watersmart for providing drinks, nibbles, and the perfect setting for some lively conversations. Missed out? Learn more about the YWP group: https://lnkd.in/givVKa_8

  • Water tip #5 Grey water, originating from sinks, showers, and laundry, can be a valuable resource when properly recycled. Installing a water recycling system in your home enables you to efficiently use this type of water.  Such systems can redirect grey water for non-potable uses like toilet flushing, washing machines, garden irrigation, and swimming pools, significantly reducing fresh water consumption. By adopting a grey water recycling system, you support sustainable water management, reduce your household's environmental footprint, and potentially lower your water bill. Want to recycle your grey water?  https://lnkd.in/ghHFGFBE

  • This year, we committed to improving our health and safety systems, focusing on better on-site practices. At the end of last year, our SiteWise rating was just 45%, making it clear that changes were needed.  We brought in health and safety experts, Toni Putter and Maree Horan, from Universal Homes Limited to review our systems and guide us. Together, we set a goal of achieving a 75% green SiteWise rating.  Led by Lilli, our Operations Coordinator, we worked hard to implement new systems, checklists, and processes to boost our standards. This included launching monthly SHED (Safe Home Every Day) meetings to address on-site challenges, share ideas, and prioritise mental health.  We’re proud to announce that our efforts paid off – we’ve passed SiteWise Certification with an impressive 83%! This success is thanks to the hard work and dedication of our entire team.

  • Today is the International Day of Water Loss—a critical reminder of how precious water is for our survival.   Did you know? Almost 1.8 billion people—25% of the world’s population—live in 17 countries facing severe water shortages. And this crisis is only expected to grow.   The good news? Small changes in our daily habits can make a BIG difference when it comes to saving water. Here are some of our top tips to help you conserve water and contribute to a more sustainable future: 1. Monitoring your water usage - Measuring what you manage enables you to identify how water consumption can be reduced and also helps with the identification of leaks. 2. Make better use of rainwater - Collecting rainwater for use in your home or commercial space is a simple way to reduce water waste and be more sustainable. 3. Fix leaking taps and pipes - Even a small drip can waste gallons of water over time. Addressing leaks promptly not only saves water but also reduces your water bill.   By adopting these practices, we can all play a role in mitigating water loss and securing this vital resource for future generations. Together, we can make a meaningful impact!
