About us
YSAR is about having fun, mixing with neat people and enjoying the bush while at the same time learning all about Search and Rescue. One of the goals of the YSAR Group is to train young people to the standard required so they can join the local SAR Group while learning to love and enjoy being in the NZ bush. YSAR provides an ideal opportunity for any 14 to 18 year old who enjoys the outdoors and is keen to make a serious commitment to the Group. The training program is intense and requires attendance at a training meeting every Wednesday night (during the school term) plus attendance at the weekend camps held every second or third weekend. Founded in 2005 by Ena and Barry Were who wanted to inspire and develop youth by fostering an safe environment in which to enjoy the outdoors and support the community when in need.
