The 2023 Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey (GUESSS) has provided a snapshot of entrepreneurial ambitions among students at The University of Auckland. While the results show incremental progress since the University’s first participation in 2018, they also underscore persistent gaps compared to global trends. With over 226,000 responses globally from 1,300 universities in 57 countries, the survey offers a comprehensive view of student entrepreneurship, showing both its promise and challenges. Trevor’s passion for hands-on learning drives his work with students in the CIE makerspace, where he leads workshops on AI, VR, 3D printing, and more. Prior to CIE, Trevor was in Johannesburg where he worked as a makerspace manager and lecturer. Congratulations to Auror who have raised $82 million in capital for their retail crime intelligence platform. Auror is a spin-out from Velocity: The University of Auckland Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme. The Herald article below notes another CIE spin-out that has also proven to be a great investment for NZ Growth Capital Partners – Kami: “The tough venture capital market and economic slowdown notwithstanding, NZGCP is on something of a roll. It recently realised a $37m profit from its early investment in education software maker Kami. Driven by a mission to make a positive impact, CIE alumna Larissa Michelsen founded Pacific Med Tech, launching Pacific Clean to supply high-quality cleaning products to Pacific Island clinics, enhancing infection control and healthcare accessibility. Larissa also serves as Associate Director of Climate Change Risk for New South Wales, embedding climate strategies across iconic sites like the Sydney Opera House, while connecting with global changemakers such as an Edmund Hillary Fellowship (EHF).
