Emerging leaders of New Zealand shared valuable insights at the CIO New Zealand Summit and Emerging Leader Forum. Grateful for the opportunity to learn from top leaders like David Kennedy, Neville Richardson, Ange Nash, Suzanne Holland, and Steve James. Special thanks to BMC Software for sponsoring the event, and to Brightstar and IDC Australia and New Zealand for organizing such an outstanding gathering. New Zealand CIO Summit & Awards once again thank you for providing me the opportunity. Key takeaways included: - David Kennedy emphasized focusing on cost-effective solutions with risk reduction and creating new revenue streams while enhancing skills. - Neville Richardson provided 8 valuable lessons on corporate life, teamwork, and Digital Dexterity. - Ange Nash MInstD highlighted the importance of having a side hustle, upskilling with social skills, and being prepared for upscaling. - Suzanne Holland shared insights on navigating larger organizations with high growth potential and achieving key career milestones. - Steve James spoke about building confidence, taking risks, and staying true to oneself while achieving success. Exciting discussions also revolved around the future job market and the evolving landscape of the industry. A great event indeed! #brightstar #CIOsummit #Emergingleader #BMC #IDC

Excellent day at the New Zealand CIO Summit & Awards in Auckland, having access to a great set of speakers and brain power in this space. The Emerging Leaders’ Forum did not disappoint. We looked at ways to self assess your readiness (through the skills circle) for emerging leaders with goals to be in C-Suite positions Some great reminders and nuggets that I took away… - Be clear about the value you bring. - Look into your circle of skills, and bridge any gaps. - Digital dexterity is important, you need to think critically, plan two steps ahead, be strategic. - Have empathy, you must focus on the people and create a psychologically safe place around them. - The behaviour you walk past is the behaviour you accept/allow. - Servant leadership doesn’t mean being a servant! - Manage your stress is important, fill your cup and enrich your soul, if that’s not where you are, then leave! - Choose carefully where you put your time and energy. Thanks Steve James, Ange Nash MInstD David Kennedy and Neville Richardson for your time and energy today.

Green Light Worldwide New Zealand Team was at last night's New Zealand CIO Summit & Awards. What an opportunity to meet New Zealand's Tech Leaders and catch up with friends and professional network. My key take-away from the summit was that leaders nowadays require more soft skills focused on coaching, supporting and caring for teams. Gone are the days when leaders were expected to coordinate tasks from 9-5, when they probably only cared about delivery and results (10 or 15 years ago during my time when I was fresh from university). I remember working late nights at the office till 10pm, commute home, and turn my laptop on to continue work (again) till 2am. I was expected to be in office for a morning call or meeting at 9am the following day. That was the grind - that was how I was led and I thought that was how a leader should be because, as a staff member, we were meeting the numbers, sky high. But I was very, very tired, and I didn't have any more time for family, hobbies or travel. I still believe in hard work, and yes am used to the grind. But this workplace revolution, the shift in paradigm that when you create a happy team and their well-being are looked after, when you create an environment where people are provided autonomy to make use of their time and focus on outcomes, I heard and saw those winning stories in last night's awarding ceremonies! Work and workplace, leadership, and performance and productivity have gone a long way. Technology drove all those changes especially in the 2020's after the pandemic and I reckon that will continue to transform how we work and lead, and ultimately impact the beautiful Aotearoa. Thank you New Zealand CIO Summit & Awards for reminding us of the work that was done and has yet to be done. Thanks too Green Light Worldwide for this exposure as we continue to provide IT services and solutions across New Zealand.
