The focus towards a circular economy begins in our processing facility, where end-of-life tyres are transformed into valuable resources. Starting with the shredding process, tyres are broken down into chunks, which can be used as tyre fuel to power cement kilns. But we don't stop there—using raspers and granulators we refine these chunks into products with broader applications. The material is upcycled into #ArenaFlex, a premium surface for equine arenas and fine #TyreCrumb, available in a range of mesh sizes down to 30 mesh. This refined crumb becomes a key component in #waterproofing, #adhesives and much more. 6.5 million tyres reach their end of life in Aotearoa New Zealand each year. 😲 Of these, only about 40 per cent are recycled or exported. Many go to landfill, are stockpiled, or are illegally dumped. This places a burden on councils and communities and poses environmental risks such as fire and toxic emissions. Aotearoa New Zealand’s first priority product stewardship scheme for end-of-life tyres has started operating. 🚗 Under the industry-led product stewardship scheme, called Tyrewise, more end-of-life tyres will be collected and repurposed. Product stewardship is where producers take responsibility for reducing a product’s environmental impact.
