Bank Steet: A History of Success of Hong Kong Depicted in Bricks

#hongkongtrip Bank Street (銀行街) is a short street in Central, Hong Kong.It connects Devoe Road Central with Queens Road Central. It is named after its location between the HSBC building and the Bank of China Building, the HSBC headquarters in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific region and the former headquarters of the Bank of China Group in Hong Kong, respectively. This place is often thought of as a modern commercial enclave of the stone jungle, in which there is practically nothing left that would remind of the past. But he still keeps amazing traces of his history, you just need to know where to look. Historically, the street known as Wardley Street was located a few meters west of Bank Street, between Connaught Road Central and Queens Road Central. In the early 1930s, additional land was needed for the construction of the third generation of the HSBC building, which required the demolition of both the southern part (between Devoe Road Central and Queens Road Central) Wardley Street and the western part of the former City Hall. The first building of the bank's headquarters, located at the central address of Queens Road, 1 on marine site No. 104, was Wardley House, named after W. H. Wardley and the company, together with Chartered Mercantile Bank, and some of the bank's subsidiaries in the 1990s were named Wardley. The floors in the building were covered with the atrium of the modern HSBC building representing the Central road network in the 1910s. Bank street itself together with a district named Hong Kong Central is a small northern part of Hong Kong Island, between the districts of Shen Wan and Wan Chai, ending behind the Admiralty Metro Station. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the main offices of global and Hong Kong corporations, the World Financial Center, the Bank of China are located here, there are the largest number of skyscrapers in the world (there are more in Hong Kong than in New York), the largest number of masterpieces by modern sculptors and artists decorate the halls and offices of corporations, and in general, every particular thing is outstanding here. Remnants of the colonial past have been preserved here, turned into modern attractions, antique markets and expensive boutiques are hidden here. This is a place that can be studied for months.
