Croatia has 1,800 kilometers of Adriatic coastline, thousands of islands, numerous bays, and many historic seaside towns. Among them are Zadar, Trogir, Dubrovnik and Split. Split is famous for being the palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian. On the third day of our Croatia trip we arrived at the ancient city of Split. The drive from Trogir to Split is 27 kilometers, about 40 minutes, very close. Split is the second largest city in Croatia. When you come to Split, you must visit the Old Town to visit Diocletian’s Palace. Diocletian was an emperor of the Roman Empire and a very powerful emperor at that time. It turned out that he was the commander of the Guards, and he had great power, similar to the Imperial Guards in the Ming Dynasty. At that time, the emperors of the ancient Roman Empire changed every two or three years, which was very chaotic, so later Diocletian became the emperor. , he ruled for more than twenty years. After more than twenty years, he abdicated, came here from Rome, and built a palace in just ten years. But the only thing he did wrong was that he listened to the villain's slander, persecuted Christians a lot, and confiscated many of their properties. It wasn't until two years after his death that the new emperor came and pardoned all the Christians. Christians, and they also made Christianity the state religion, which turned Christianity over, so they demolished Diocletian's tomb out of hatred. The best preserved thing in Diocletian's Palace now is the underground palace. The underground palace was originally a place where slaves lived. Of course, there were also some workshops underground. As time went by, later generations built houses on the underground palace. In fact, They didn't know there was an underground palace when they built the house, so the underground palace was preserved. After coming out of Diocletian's Palace, we walked around the ancient city. There were quite a few tourists from all over the world. We loved every sight in the ancient city. There is a very special statue outside the ancient city. This bishop fought to be able to use the local Croatian language during liturgies, which shows how influential the church was at that time. The statue was designed and manufactured by Ivan Mestrovic, a famous Croatian sculpture master.
