Yuelu Mountain 🇨🇳 Changsha
A lovely spot to escape the city for a few hours. Walking up from the university area there are lots of trails to choose from, you can head to the summit, to the temples or a number of viewing platforms.
This is also the spot where we finally gave up on trying to find a short line for Changsha tea and joined the long lines. Was it worth it? Honestly it was, it's cheap, tasty, creamy, sickly and nutty too.
We went in late July and it was ridiculously hot in the mid day heat, so set off up Yuelu Mountain early in the morning and headed down before the sun got too hot.
Some of the gates to the top required us to scan codes and show our passport, I'm not certain if it was a requirement, but good to note.

Yuelu mountain!
Very famous place in Changsha. The same name Yuelu is shared by academy located at the bottom of this mountain. Hunan university is also there.
The mountain provides a good view on the city, of course, if the weather is OK. I don't think it worth to take the cableway to get up there. There are two reasons. Actually, this is the hill, not a mountain, so the distance is not long enough to enjoy the view from the cabin. The second, you will spend a lot of time standing in the line and waiting for your turn. So, it is recommended to climb. I said climb, but really it means walk on the ground covered by pavement, there is no stair, a few spots have steps, but mainly this is the road.
Vegetation is beautiful, yes, this is true.

Changsha's autumn is hidden in this mountain.
In December, many places have already entered winter, but it's the peak of autumn at Yuelu Mountain in Changsha.
▫️
If you happen to visit Changsha during this season, I highly recommend going to Yuelu Mountain to enjoy the autumn scenery. During this season, the scenery is just like the poem by Mao Zedong: "The mountains are covered in red, and the forests are dyed in layers."

Meixi Lake: Changsha's dreamland.
📍Meixi Lake, Changsha, a dazzling pearl on the west side of Yuelu Mountain.
During the day, take a stroll along the lake, where the water glistens and the surrounding buildings are full of modernity. The unique shape of the art center is eye-catching, like a lively note jumping on the lakeside. At night, the musical fountain dances to the music, colorful lights intertwine, and the water curtain changes endlessly, like a dream.
This is also a palace of culture and art. Inside the art center, operas, dance dramas, concerts, and more are constantly on display, immersing you in an elegant artistic atmosphere.
There are many delicious foods around, with spicy and fresh Hunan cuisine and a variety of street snacks. Transportation is convenient, with direct access to the subway and many buses.

Yuelu Mountain Red Leaf Hunting Guide: Colorful Autumn Days.
Autumn is the most charming season in Changsha's Yuelu Mountain. When the red leaves are like fire, like rosy clouds, covering the mountains, the entire Yuelu Mountain seems to have become a flowing picture scroll, which is intoxicating.
If you want to appreciate the autumn charm of Yuelu Mountain, it is key to grasp the best red leaf viewing period. From early November to early December each year is the most brilliant time for Yuelu Mountain red leaves. And in mid-to-late November, it is the best time to watch. At this time, the red leaves have rich color levels, golden, orange, and dark red intertwined, forming a sharp contrast with the green trees in the mountains, which is so beautiful that people are drunk.
Of course, if you want to enjoy the beauty of this autumn day, it is also essential to choose a suitable viewing route. If you are a hiking or cycling enthusiast, then entering from the south gate is a good choice. Along the mountain road to the north, scenic spots such as Aiwan Pavilion and Fangsheng Pond will appear in front of you one by one. #lightthecity I would totally recommend this place. We caught the last bus up but timed it perfectly to watch the sunset over Changsha. Great views of the city from
all sorts of different angles. We only spent an hour or so at the top of the mountain but it was enough. There are also come cool tea shops to take a nice break. Make sure you are in line to catch the bus on the way down! You can walk either up or down for a workout as well. But we were short on time so we opted for the bus. It was 10 yuan per person plus admission to the park which was about 40 yuan per person. You should absolutely check it out if you are in Changsha.
