This is because the animals are usually less active and hide in the shades in the middle of the afternoon and that makes them much harder to spot. 🌾 Tip 2: In Yellowstone, animals tend to gather around large, flat areas with few trees, and they tend to come in groups. So it’s best to save your effort in spotting when you are at such areas! 🚗 Tip 3: It is not uncommon to spot animals along the driveway, though it can be easy to miss! One trick that always work for me is to slow down whenever you see other cars are slowing down, that usually means that they have spotted something nearby! 🦬 Tip 4: Safety should always be your top priority! We stayed at Gray Wolf in West Yellowstone, which offers two routes: to Old Faithful and Canyon. You can choose either snowmobile or snowcoach. On our first day, we went to Canyon via snowmobile, booked through Vacation Tours. You need to rent their full gear (helmet, clothing, boots, gloves), and it's well-insulated. A face mask is an additional purchase, either bring your own or buy there for $8. It gets very cold while riding, so it's best to have one. This route has no restaurants, so bring your own food or pre-order lunch with them for $15 per person (includes a sandwich, water, a cookie, chips, an apple, and a cheese stick), but it's cold. Lunch is eaten during a stop. Check-in is at 8 AM, and after registration and gearing up, you meet the guide at the parking lot who teaches you how to ride. It's easy to learn, and we set off around 9 AM. You quickly see bison upon entering the park, and there are many scenic stops for photos. The route includes hills, plains, and sometimes cliffs, making it thrilling! The snow scenery is breathtaking, with speeds generally above 35 mph, reaching up to 50 mph at the most exciting moments.
