Whispers of the Wind: The Sacred Beauty of Tibetan Prayer Flags in Shangri-La
#chinatrip#yunnan #shangrila
In Shangri-La, I was amazed by the sight of the Tibetan prayer flags, known as *Lungta* in Tibetan. These colorful flags—composed of red, yellow, white, green, and blue—are a common yet profound feature of Tibetan culture. Printed with intricate Tibetan script, they are often mistaken for mere decorations due to their vibrant colors. The name *Lungta* carries a deeper meaning: "Lung" refers to wind, while "Ta" means horse, symbolizing the "wind horse" that carries prayers far and wide. Typically hung on mountaintops, around white stupas, or near incense-burning platforms, the flags flutter endlessly in the wind. The origin of prayer flags stems from the Tibetan people's desire to extend their prayers beyond the confines of location and time. Unable to constantly pray in temples, they found a way to harness the power of nature—printing teachings of the Buddha or prayers from spiritual leaders onto flags. As the wind rustles the flags, these blessings and prayers are carried across the earth, spreading good fortune and peace for all beings. This simple yet profound practice left me deeply moved, a reminder of the Tibetan people's unwavering faith and their beautiful connection to nature.

One of the best and instagrammable place for Shanghai’s skyline view would be North Bund! It is a long stretch of promenade with a few cafes around the area, offers stunning and mesmerising views of Shanghai’s skyline. The popular Oriental Pearl Tower, Lu Jia Zui buildings, The Bund can be seen from the promenade. The area wasn’t crowded during our visit, as compared to our visit to The Bund! The best time to visit would be around evening, that way visitors got to catch the views during daytime and when the night falls. Also, it was really chilly at night as it was at the river side. Such a hidden gem to enjoy and take in the views of skyscrapers, stroll along the river bank, have a cuppa. Definitely visit this place while travelling to Shanghai!

A Glimpse into Ancient Su Zhou at Ping Jiang Road
#chinatrip
📍Ping Jiang Road, Su Zhou, China
Ping Jiang Road is a historical street that dates back to the South Song Dynasty. The name of Ping Jiang Road came from Ping Jiang River which is parallel to the street. The river runs through the street and there are plenty of stone bridges. The street is a glimpse into the ancient Su Zhou, well preserved blocks , narrow streets, ancient buildings. It is relatively more crowded and happening than the nearby Guan Qian Street. It is a charming area to spend half a day at. There are just so much to explore and experience, try the local food! We also spent some time making our own fan at this area! So much fun!
Historical Taoist Temple in Su Zhou
#chinatrip
📍Xuan Miao Temple, Su Zhou, China
Visited this temple that is located at Guan Qian Street. It is easy to be spotted while strolling on Guan Qian Shopping Street. Upon arriving at the temple, there is a huge wooden structured gate which was built in the Tang Dynasty. The temple is a Taoist temple with dated history. The compound is huge and the main hall, Pure Trinity Hall (三清殿) is located at the back of the hall. The overall ambiance was peaceful and zen, with a couple of tourists and locals sending prayers during our visit. It is well preserved, stunning and pretty impressive to see such historical building.
Faith and Unity: Experiencing Tibetan Culture in Shangri-La
#chinatrip #yunnan
In Shangri-La, we visited the culturally rich Guishan Park and took part in turning the massive prayer wheel, which requires the collective effort of thirty people to set it in motion. As the prayer wheel slowly turned, we could feel the power of faith, as though every rotation carried our wishes to the heavens. Later, we gathered in the ancient town square, joining the locals in a joyful Tibetan dance. Despite the thin, oxygen-deprived air of the plateau, there was no shortage of devotion and vibrant spirit. The unique charm of Tibetan culture and the serene atmosphere of this land left us with a profound sense of peace and awe.
Tranquil Beauty: A Serene Morning on Putatso National Park’s Youyou Trail
#chinatrip #yunnan
In early November, we visited the Youyou Trail at Putatso National Park, where the morning greeted us with freezing temperatures below zero. Despite the biting cold, we were the only two who ventured down to walk this peaceful trail. The serene beauty of the path unfolded before us, with a crystal-clear river meandering gently alongside, its surface shimmering in the soft light of the morning. The stillness of the surroundings, broken only by the occasional whisper of the wind and the murmur of the water, made it feel as though we had stepped into a tranquil, untouched world. The crisp air and the solitude heightened our senses, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the quiet charm of this hidden gem.

#guangzhou
I think by far this is the largest underground shopping mall available and it is in Guangzhou! Can you imagine once to enter to the basement level, close your eyes and walk only north direction, you would need at least 1hour to finish walking and reaches the end.
If you would be shopping while walking around, this place would easily need about 4-5hours in total. But of course, there are also a lot of food and beverages like noodles, skewers and milk tea shop.

#chinatrip
We definitely had a great time staying at Mondrian Hong Kong! The location is extremely convenient with just five minutes walk to the closest MTR. The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs throughout the stay. I was actually surprised by the size of the room given how most of the hotels in Hong Kong have limited space. The room was clean and we got to enjoy the view though there was construction going on. I highly recommend to stay in Mondrian Hong Kong if you are visiting Hong Kong!

🇭🇰 Min Jun - A cart noodle with blend of new and old
#chinatrip
It was recommended to us to try out Min Jun, which is a restaurant that sells traditional Hong Kong styled cart noodles in a modern setting. It was so popular that we waited in the line for about 30 minutes to get our seat. The menu is straightforward where you choose a soup base, type of noodle, and various ingredients to top it. I choose a mala soup base and I like it! The radish is very tasty and absorbs the flavor of the soup base. There is also a rare ingredient which is the pork blood jelly that gives an interesting texture to the dish.
