Xi’an, historically known as Chang’an, was a resplendent jewel in the crown of ancient China. During the Tang dynasty, it reigned as the world’s largest city, a bustling metropolis at the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, stretching all the way to Baghdad and Constantinople. Walking through its ancient city walls today carries a strong sense of history, imagining the bustling caravans, the traders, and the scholars who once traversed these very streets. Frankly, Xi'an deserves a place among the world's most celebrated cities. Its historical significance is undeniable. Here are five of the experiences that truly captivated me during my time in this ancient capital: 1️⃣ The Terracotta Army: This awe-inspiring spectacle needs no introduction. Standing before the thousands of life-sized terracotta warriors, each with unique features, was an unforgettable experience. The sheer scale and artistry of this ancient army left me speechless. 2️⃣ Huaqing Palace: A short distance from the Terracotta Army, Huaqing Palace offered a glimpse into the opulent lives of ancient emperors. The palace, built on a hot spring, boasts a rich history, from the Tang Dynasty to the modern era. Unfortunately, renovation works prevented me from witnessing the "Song of Everlasting Regret," a captivating performance that retells the tragic love story of Emperor Xuanzong and his beloved concubine, Yang Guifei. 3️⃣ The Great Mosque of Xi'an: A testament to the cultural exchange that has shaped China throughout history, the Great Mosque of Xi'an stands as a beautiful example of Islamic architecture. While non-Muslims can explore the courtyard and admire the intricate architecture, the mosque itself remains a sacred space for prayer. 4️⃣ The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda: This iconic pagoda is steeped in legend. It's said to be connected to the famous monk Xuanzang, whose journey to India inspired the classic novel "Journey to the West". There are even plushies of the pagoda, that you can take home as a souvenir. 5️⃣ A Culinary Adventure: No trip to Xi'an is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. The Biang Biang noodles, with their unique wide, hand-ripped shape, were a particular highlight. Finding the correct character for "biangbiang" itself is a challenge, a testament to the complexity and richness of the Chinese language. #china #xian #shaanxi

#chinatraveltips 📍Address:Lianhu District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China 🇨🇳 Guangren Temple, also called Guangren Lama Temple, was built in 1705 by the Kangxi Emperor. It is the only Tibetan Buddhist temple in Shaanxi Province and was also the residence of Lamas when they traveled through Shaanxi Province to Beijing to meet the emperor. Inside, there are many sacred objects and rare relics, such as the 9.7 meter high Thousand Armed Guanyin sitting on a lotus pedestal. The temple has a long history and beautiful Chinese art and culture. #shaanxi #china

China's ancient capital for 13 dynasties, Xi'an is rich in history and culture. It's a fantastic place to visit if you like dressing up in hanfu; you'll see other tourists wearing them everywhere, even on the subway and at restaurants! The old name for Xi'an is Chang'an (長安), so you'll see lots of photospots and souvenirs with this name. There are lots of Halal eateries available (look for the sign 清真); most meat is beef or mutton. 📍广仁寺 (Guangren Temple) 🏯 Built in 1703 by the order of Emperor Kangxi of Qin Dynasty and the only Lama Temple in Shaanxi Province. It offers a unique experience by feeling the ambiance and peaceful serenity in the heart of Xi'an. This place showcases various historical artifacts dated back hundreds of years ago. Spending a day in Xi’an? There are PLENTY of things you can do and delicious local food you can try. The Drum tower is a must for you to see (especially at night)! If you want you can go inside, but I’m not sure how much it is. The City Wall (45¥) is beautiful and great to walk on/bike on to enjoy nice views of the city. If you’d like to rent a bike, it costs 45¥ + 100¥ deposit for 3 hours. Relics of Great wall in the middle of nowhere 🕵, that are just as awesome as the restored parts🤩. Near Yulin in Shaanxi province, It is hard to believe you are standing next to the remains of a structure that has been standing for over 1000 years🇨🇳🏯 , even more in some sections. 📍The easiest way to reach this section is as you🚗 drive left out of The Wave Canyon carpark towards G307, 3 minutes in on your right, You can begin to see relics of he watch towers🏯, look out for he grey and silver plaques marking the relevance of these finds. Location: Xianyang, Shaanxi province. Getting there: Take a 20 minute taxi from Xi'an airport or simply take the subway from the center of Xi'an...it goes all the way to Xianyang city. The subway stop that links with Xi'an is called Feng He Sen Lin Gong Yuan. Getting off at Feng He Forest Park station, it's a short walk to the center of Xianyang. In xianyang go for walks along Xianyang lake and admire the beauty of the still water. Walk along the mighty bridges and admire the beautiful lights on the road. Located 85km from Xi'an city, this mountain resort called Shao Huashan (Small Mount Hua) is another stunning mountain range basd in Shaanxi province. Although less famous and albeit smaller than Mount Hua, this mountain offers breathtaking views from the bottom and the top. Tip: if you are short of time, take the cable car up and down the mountain. The views are wonderful. #shaohuashan #shaanxi

Mount Huashan is a very famous mountain in Shaanxi province near Xi'an as the root of Chinese culture. On this one of the "Five Mountains" in China, you will encounter the most dangerous hiking trail, gorgeous sceneries, temples, and cable cars. Getting there: 25 minute fast train from Xi'an north station. Tip: Climb the mountain at midnight and arrive at the peak for the stunning sunrise. North of Yulin city, Shaanxi province is a historical masterpiece well worth visiting. Located on the summit of the Red Mountain, Zhenbeitai Terrace is the historical testimony of the favorable peripheral environment between Mongolian people and Han people during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644). Zhenbei Terrace is just what the name implies: holding the north in awe. It is the largest watch tower of the Ming Great Wall, from which you can see the beacon fires and the partly hidden and partly visible earthen ruins of the Wall. #zhenbei #yulin #shaanxi

Chinese Name: 红河谷森林公园 Getting there: This scenic area is located near Baoji city in Shaanxi province. It is about 90 minutes west of Xi'an. You can get a bullet train to Baoji and then take a taxi to Hong He Gu scenic area. Entry fee: 40 RMB Attractions: Massive waterfalls, cable cars, mountain climbs and stunning views from the top. Xi'an is obviously the most famous city in Shaanxi province, however it is also worth visiting Baoji. Getting there: a one hour fast train from Xi'an. There are some classic museums and excellent river walks. Nice pagodas to take photographs of and excellent quaint parks to wonder around. Hotel? Definitely choose Crowne Plaza. A wonderful five star hotel with stunning views. Excellent breakfast and half the price of 5 star hotels in Xi'an. #baoji #shaanxi #pagoda #xian

Xian is a must. A great city full of rich history. The food, although carb central is delicious . The people are so friendly and helpful. The terracotta warriors was mind blowing, I definitely recommend. The showering place of the empire was cool and worth a visit. A nice, but long cycle around the city wall is a must too.
