Beijing Metro Line 3 Finally Opens After Half a Century
On December 15, 2024, Beijing Metro Line 3 finally opened after 60 years of waiting 🎉
I had seen the reserved mysterious platform at Dongsi Shitiao 🚉
The metro line was first proposed in the 1970s
After 60 years, it finally returned to the Beijing metro network family~
Beijing Metro Line 3, like Lines 1 and 2, is one of the earliest planned lines in Beijing
In 1956, five Soviet experts came to Beijing and guided the drawing of the earliest Beijing metro plan
When Dongsi Shitiao Station on Line 2 was built in 1971, the platform and concourse of Line 3 were reserved under the concourse
Completed in 1984, it was rated as one of the top ten buildings in Beijing in the 1980s, and the only underground building among them
I remember last time I went to Chengde, I had to take a taxi to Chaoyang Station 🚕
Now the metro is seamlessly connected to 🚄 Chaoyang Railway Station, which is very convenient 🎉
If you like taking photos, you must visit Chaoyang Station
The newly opened west square and concourse of Beijing Chaoyang Station are a bit like Daxing Airport ✈️
The Chaoyang Comprehensive Hub Transfer Station is composed of a single-layer steel box girder reticulated shell structure, which is very spectacular 😮
There are also signs of meeting points on the pillars of Chaoyang Station on Line 3
It's so convenient to meet up with friends, such a thoughtful design ♥️

Sydney family trip with a 6-year-old, 20,000 steps a day
Three days in Sydney, full of fun and satisfaction, everything was perfect except for the lack of shopping time. 20,000+ steps a day, but not tired at all, and the kid was great too 👍
Stayed for three nights, captured sunsets from different locations each night, golden afterglow all over the harbor, the gentle silhouette of the Sydney Opera House, lalaland in reality, hard not to be moved 💙
Hotel 🏨:
1️⃣The Fullerton Hotel Sydney 2 nights (core area of the city, next to Martin Place, convenient to go anywhere, hearty breakfast)
2️⃣Quest North Sydney 1 night (Sydney weekend room rates are very high, the last night was chosen in North Sydney, there is a subway bus at the door, also thinking of visiting the North Sydney night view, the most important thing is to choose an apartment to cook, fry steak)
Itinerary 📅:
Day 1: The night before, flew from Melbourne to Sydney late, woke up naturally in the morning, the first day was mainly a leisurely Citywalk: Hyde Park, St. Mary's Cathedral, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney Opera House.
Day 2: Early morning Royal Botanic Garden (because the previous afternoon's Mrs. Macquarie's Chair photo was backlit, the teammate insisted on getting up early, re-punching the Opera House's beautiful location, and it turned out that the morning sea was indeed much more beautiful, 40 minutes round trip); after breakfast and rest at the hotel, took the bus to Bondi Beach; returned to the North Sydney hotel at 4 pm to rest and adjust, went to Lavender Bay in the evening to see the night view, walked along the coastal trail to Luna Park, took a cab back to the hotel, bought steak, lamb chops, oysters, and mussels at a nearby supermarket to make dinner at the apartment.
Day 3: Woke up naturally, took the bus from the North Sydney apartment to Taronga Zoo 🐨, 20+ minutes direct to the north gate of the zoo, all the way downhill, returned to the south gate, took the ferry directly to Circular Quay, no return trip, recommended route! After getting off the boat at Circular Quay, took the bus directly to the University of Sydney, took a little stroll, went to Jeffrey Street Wharf in North Sydney to watch the sunset, very few people, a very quiet and great sunset spot, highly recommended! After dark, took a cab to the airport with luggage to catch a late flight back home ✈️
Before leaving Beijing, be sure to visit this century-old church.
Beijing is truly a treasure trove! Having lived here for over 20 years, this is the first time I've discovered such a stunning Catholic church. 💒
Don't miss this place during your short holiday in Beijing.
This is the Xishiku Church ⛪️, which has a history of over 100 years and is the largest Catholic church in Beijing. It has been around for over 300 years and still retains the calligraphy of Emperor Kangxi.
The main building is a three-story Gothic structure with 11 spires at the top, and the building's floor plan is cross-shaped.
The two Chinese-style pavilions outside the church give it a unique blend of Eastern and Western aesthetics.
The church's interior is resplendent, with a golden dome supported by 300 giant columns and 80 stained glass windows depicting the history of Catholicism in China.
The church has a strong Oriental character, and the sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows in the afternoon is incredibly sacred.
Many couples choose to hold their weddings here. 💒 On the day we visited, we saw three couples entering the church one after another.
The church offers different beautiful views at different times of the year. 🌸 In spring, there are crabapple blossoms, and in winter, ❄️ the snow-covered pine trees in front of the church add to its mystery.
⚠️Note:
📍 No. 33, Xishiku Street, Xicheng District
👉🏼 About reservations: No reservation is required, and you can enter the church! However, the main entrance is usually closed, so you need to enter through the small door on the right.
📅 Visiting time: If you are just visiting for sightseeing and taking photos, avoid misa time.
During misa, photography and videography are not allowed, and you cannot leave your seat unless there are special circumstances! It is recommended to visit on Saturdays, as there are fewer sessions, only in the morning. Sundays are not recommended.
It is best to visit around 4 pm on a sunny day, 🌞 when the indoor lighting is optimal.
⌚️ Church exterior opening hours:
Morning: 06:30–11:00
Afternoon: 14:00–17:00
🌹 Misa time:
Monday to Saturday: 06:30 Chinese, 07:15 Chinese
Sunday: 06:30 Chinese, 07:30 Chinese, 09:00 Chinese, 11:00 English, 12:30 Italian/Spanish, 16:00 Chinese, 18:00 Chinese
👔 Dress code: No hats; skirts below the knee, no bare shoulders or back, no slippers, remove hats, and silence phones.
⚠️ No large luggage; no tripods or commercial photography; no loud noise or running.
🏔️ Nearby: Palace Museum, Tiananmen Square, Beihai Park, Summer Palace, Shichahai, Lu Xun's Former Residence, White Pagoda Temple, Xidan

So far, this is my favorite Citywalk route in Beijing.
This is my fifth time visiting the area around Yonghe Temple since turning 30. I highly recommend this super artistic Citywalk route to experience the literary atmosphere of old Beijing architecture, hutongs, culture, and cuisine.
The entire walk takes 2–4 hours (recommended shops included). You can do it without spending much money, perhaps enjoying hot pot or noodles, a cup of coffee, or simply strolling—it's up to you. The artistic Citywalk route 🚶🏻♂️ forms a square on the map (Figure 2):
🚶🏻Yonghe Temple ➡️ Wudaoying Hutong ➡️ Guozijian Hutong🚶🏻
Stop 1️⃣: Yonghe Temple
Visit Beijing's largest Tibetan Buddhist temple early in the morning. It's the most popular royal temple, and prayers here are said to be very effective! Free incense is available at the entrance. Authentic Yonghe Temple bracelets can be obtained at the temple's designated areas. There are three such locations in total. They are extremely popular, so expect long lines every day.
Stop 2️⃣: Wudaoying Hutong
A paradise for art lovers! The hutong alleys are home to numerous hidden gem shops, delicious food, and cafes, offering a blend of laid-back vibes and vibrant energy. Explore the small shops filled with interesting and novel items.
Stop 3️⃣: Sixi Xiaopang Old Hen Chicken Soup Hot Pot (Wudaoying Branch)
A famous hot pot restaurant in Wudaoying Hutong. Visitors should definitely experience hot pot in a traditional hutong courtyard. I ordered the chicken soup hot pot, and the flavor was exquisite. A bowl of this soup is incredibly warming in winter! I recommend the snowflake beef and Guizhou golden bamboo fungus.
Stop 4️⃣: Inlet Bookstore
A niche and artistic bookstore, quiet and calming. Enjoy the sunshine and watch people passing by in the hutong. Perfect for relaxing and reading.
Stop 5️⃣: METAL HANDS Coffee
No need for introductions—this is a popular cafe. With great lighting and a retro industrial style, it's a must-visit for coffee lovers!
Stop 6️⃣: Fudair Eating Private Kitchen
This small restaurant is both artistic and cozy. With an Instagram-worthy aesthetic and delicious food, you can order home-style private kitchen dishes that taste like grandma's cooking. You can also order sweet soup; the almond tofu is smooth, tender, and melts in your mouth. This place offers excellent value for money!
Stop 7️⃣: Guozijian Hutong
Also known as Chengxian Street, this 700-year-old hutong is the only preserved Paifang Street in Beijing. With red walls and gray tiles, the Confucius Temple is located on this street. It's a popular spot, so take your time and savor the atmosphere.
Stop 8️⃣: Yuangu Main Store (Jianchang Branch)
A hidden Chinese dessert shop tucked away in a hutong. It's been open for 10 years. The environment is incredibly relaxing, and the desserts are exquisite and layered with flavor. It's usually packed on weekend afternoons.
Stop 9️⃣: Confucius Temple and Imperial College Museum
The highest institution of learning during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, and the place where the imperial family worshipped and commemorated Confucius. Free admission for visitors under 18 and over 60. While not overly crowded, the picturesque scenery makes it worth a visit.
📝Travel Tips:
1️⃣Arrive at Yonghe Temple by 9 am and book tickets online in advance.
2️⃣Most small shops in Wudaoying Hutong don't open until 11 am, so don't go too early.
3️⃣Guozijian Hutong is best explored in the afternoon when the sunlight casts a beautiful glow on the ancient buildings.
⚠️Things to Avoid:
1️⃣Buy bracelets inside Yonghe Temple; those sold outside are mostly fake.
2️⃣Ignore the fortune tellers at the entrance!
