Kaohsiung: The Hipster Haven of Taiwan
Visiting the Spring and Autumn Pavilions in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is an incredibly beautiful experience. The pavilions are stylishly decorated and situated in the middle of a pond, showcasing traditional Chinese architecture. Walking through the dragon feels like stepping into a fantasy world with vibrant colors.
The intricate carvings add life to the place, yet the surrounding atmosphere is very peaceful. A gentle breeze and the still water in the pond create a relaxing ambiance. Listening to the legends about the pavilions makes the visit even more interesting. This trip is both calming and a perfect way to connect with Taiwan's nature and culture.

🍚 Delicious Braised Pork Rice at Kaohsiung😋
#kaohsiung
🌟 A recommended restaurant by our taxi driver- this is a MUST try braised pork rice in Kaohsiung.
📍 This restaurant has a 50 years so history, located in the heart of the Wu Jia Zi Qiang Night Market. This was one of the busiest restaurants in the market, always packs with customers.
🧑🍳There was a long queue for takeaway but luckily no queue for dine-in. You can choose to dine in either indoor or outdoor. Their service was very efficient, our order came within 5 minutes.
🍚 The flavourful braised taste pork rice was very good, the half fat and half meat balance out very well. Definitely worth a try!

🧀 🥧 Yummy cheese tart in Kaohsiung
#kaohsiung #Cheesetart
🥧 I found this cute bakery shop opposite to my hotel, located near Central Park Station Exit 2 and walk for 10 minutes.
🏵️ The shop is cute, colourful and inviting with the aroma of freshly baked pastries wafting throng the air.
👩🏻🍳 The cheese filling is very rich, and it goes perfectly with the crispy tart crust. The tart is quite small, i can easily eat 2-3 tarts at a time.

After transforming into 'Little Princess,' enjoy a Chinese-style hot pot.
During our trip to Kaohsiung✈️, we stayed at the Marriott Hotel. There's a place called 'Wending・His Majesty's Blessing' in the mall behind the hotel. We saw good reviews online, so we booked it well in advance!
The restaurant offers Chinese imperial costumes for guests to try on and take photos, though the selection is limited. I picked a couple of relatively clean outfits for my daughter to wear, and we had a lot of fun taking pictures!
The hot pot ingredients are not very diverse, but the ancient-style tableware and environment are quite unique. The most special items are the 'gong' and 'jue' used to serve the 'lychee ice vinegar,' which look exactly like those in Chinese history books—very distinctive!
The '18oz Prosperous Flower Beef Platter🐂' is a must-order. It comes with dry ice, creating a misty effect when served—very beautiful! The platter includes several types of beef. The beef flavor is not very strong, but the meat is tender and plentiful.
Additionally, the 'Pingtung Probiotic Pork Shoulder🐖' is also good. It's tender and softer than regular pork shoulder—delicious! Other ingredients are quite ordinary and not very memorable.
The Yixiang Tiandi branch in Kaohsiung also has a children's play area👶🏻, but my daughter is no longer a toddler, so she was only interested in the ice cream counter outside with 16 flavors😂, because it's Häagen-Dazs.

Kaohsiung: Try Chongqing Hot and Sour Noodles.
I was craving something spicy that day and found this place on Google Maps. Even in the afternoon, there were many people ordering takeout. The hot and sour noodles had a relatively mild broth (I personally prefer it saltier and richer). I saw many people ordering the rice noodle rolls, so I tried them too, but I didn't quite get the appeal 🤣

Kaohsiung Lighthouse
The Kaohsiung Lighthouse, also known as Cihou Lighthouse, stands proudly on Cijin Island, just off the coast of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It's a historic landmark dating back to the late 19th century. It was first constructed in 1883 during the Qing Dynasty of China to guide ships safely through the waters of the Taiwan Strait and into the port of Kaohsiung, which was an important trading hub at the time.
We took the ferry from Kaohsiung City KW2 pier to Cijin Island. Ferries also depart regularly from Gushan Ferry Pier. From Cijin Pier we walked about 1 km to reach the lighthouse which is located at the southern tip of Cijin Island. It was quite a steep climb from the foot of Mount Cihou to the lighthouse. We enjoyed the panoramic views of Kaohsiung City, the harbor, and the Taiwan Strait from the lighthouse.

The artsy city, Kaohsiung Taiwan
#fallishere Come explore this artsy part of the city where street arts are abundant on the buildings of this small village called WeiWu MiMi Village.
Getting There - Recommended to take the MRT to WeiWuYing Station and alight from entrance 4 or 5. Once you exit the station, you cannot miss the library painting building (cover photo)
Attractions - Street art photography
Food & Restaurants - Local residential snack store which sells Taiwanese sausages, rice cake and fried fish cake
Bonus recommendaton - Take a 10 minutes taxi ride from the place to 原龍羊肉海產-一心路總店, a restaurant specializing in lamb pot. What a unique find as it is similar to the famous Bak Kut Teh that you can find in Malaysia or Singapore. It is essentially a herbal soup which you can find lamb meat inside. The taste is not that sweet and it is very very fragrant. You can order the lamb hotpot as well as the famous lamb risotto and lamb vermicelli. A true local favorite and you will certainly not be disappointed.
Also, one of the best night markets in Taiwan is nearby here, RuiFeng Night Market which you can visit as well.

With the past changing urban scene, you can see the Dragon and Tiger twin pagodas at Lotus Lake.
It is sorrounded by a beautiful artificial lake and other religous templed dedicated for different deities.
Enter the mouth of the dragon and exit through the mouth of the tiger to bring good luck and fortune!
There was so many people during my visit so I can't take any picture at all during my obligatory walk. ( ˘︹˘ )
Just some steps from the twin pagodas you can also visit the several pavilions and walkways that has vantage points over the lake
and the Zuoying Yuan Di Temple, where you can see the impressive warrior-statues lining the walkway to the towering Taoist deity, Xuandi with his Seven Star Sword.

六合觀光夜市
Popular night market in Kaohsiung City. It is not very big as compared to other night markets in Taiwan, but it is definitely worth coming by if you are in Kaohsiung.
Many delicious local food & snacks. There are several game stalls as well.
Pricing is still considered affordable. Some stalls have their own seatings, while some do not have them. Make sure to clear your own rubbish after you are done eating. They are quite particular about this.
It is quite vibrant with a fair bit of local Taiwanese.
All the stall owners are so friendly and helpful.
This night market is quite safe for children, too, as it does not have incoming vehicles between the market, as they have blocked off the road from the front entrance. But still, keep an eye on the young ones.
It is quite easy to navigate. The nearest metro station is just 8 mins walk away.

Kaohsiung - Cijin
Make a trip down to Cijin since we are in Kaohsiung. You won’t regret heading to Cijin. The locals and very friendly, there are lots of food stalls around and it is very affordable. We explore Cijin by renting their bicycle operated by electricity. Would recommend renting their bicycle so you can explore further and more. But some areas will require walking which includes Cihou Lighthouse as you will need to walk up the slope. Pretty tiring but think the view is worth it.#kaohsiung #cijin
Shou Shan Hiking Trial
The one and only hiking spot that is quite challenging that we managed to find in Kao Hsiung. We took it as a warmup for our Yang Ming Shan hike in the next few days when we go to Taipei. First hand experience of being attacked by a monkey because of the food we brought along. Intended to have a feel of eating in the mountains but unable to. Then the locals advise we finished the food before climbing. WARNING!: DO NOT BRING FOOD UP GU SHAN! Last but not least, weather was good to us till we reached the summit. There are free tea provided at the summit pavilion too. Then it started to pour on and off and stopped when we reached the foot.

Kaohsiung - a vibrant city with beautiful ports, artistic zones and convenient transportation.
Kaohsiung is a massive port city in southern Taiwan. It's home to many skyscrapers, such as the 248m-tall Tuntex Sky Tower, and is known for its diversity of parks. Its focal point is the Love River, with walking paths and cafes along its banks, and cruise boats navigating its waters.
Kaohsiung New Attraction Landmar:The "Zhuanzhuan Music Grand Harbor Bridge" connecting the two banks of the Love River is currently the most popular Kaohsiung IG check-in spot, the bridge body is designed with shells and dolphins as the concept, which can connect the Zhanku Group, the Barge 2 Special Zone and the waterfront sightseeing corridor, and more interestingly, the bridge can also rotate to allow boats to pass when it needs to pass.
If you like photography, it is recommended that you shoot from the perspective of the Penglai parking lot next to the port of the Barge 2 Art Special Zone (Zhanliu Library, Zhanqiku), the background is the prosperous Kaohsiung Port Style, which can make the Dagang Bridge, Pop Music Center, and the 85th Building super beautiful in the same frame!
One the other hand, there is a brand new transportation system implemented in Kaohsiung:The Circular light rail is a light rail line, operated by Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation. The southern part of this line makes use of the defunct tracks of the Kaohsiung Harbor Railway Line. Therefore, this light rail can bring you to the main attractions of Kaohsiung easily!

Great Shopping at E-Sky Mall in Kaohsiung
#kaohsiung #taiwan #shoppingtime
E-sky mall has many shops ranging from big brands to normal brands! Some brands such as Skechers have exclusive Taiwan items.
You can spend almost half a day here shopping around and you can have your meals here as they have plenty of restaurants available in the mall!
E-sky mall is located near to Aozihdi MRT Station and is within 10 minutes walking distance. There are complimentary shuttle buses to the shopping mall on weekdays at Aozihdi Exit 2 and the bus interval is about 20 minutes. The Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel is located just right above E-sky mall.
Overall, it is a beautiful shopping mall to visit~

1of the world’s most beautiful train station
Must visit train station since the Formosa Boulevard Station has been crowned one of the most beautiful train station in the whole wide world.
Truly beautiful train station, however, quite out of the way as there isn’t any major tourist attraction located at this station or near this station.
However, back in 2017, there were a few shops located in the train station for you to visit as well after snapping some photo of the interior design :)
Later that night, we headed to Rui Feng night market, one of the must-go in kaohsiung, enjoyed the deep fried mushrooms & cheesy potato the most! They also sell a lot other typical night market snacks that are yummy as well! #kaohsiung #taiwan
Cijin Star Tunnel & amazing shaved ice
Part 2 of Cijin island post!
Another famous tourist spot would be to visit the star tunnel (giving us a short shade from the scorching hot sun). towards the end of the tunnel, you’ll be greeted with astonishing view of the sea, naturally formed rocks & barely any tourist as well!! We got lucky, so we were able to take as many picture as possible over there :)
When the wave crashed upon the rocks, the view was mad beautiful. Also super windy so becareful of your phone & camera!
then we cycled back to visit other attractions & we chanced upon a place with a very nice walkway upon the greenery, and some tall building which we got up and enjoyed the entire view of the island. This area was full of tourists so you won’t miss it while you’re researching on what to do at cijin island!
Finally, before getting the ferry back to kaohsiung main island, we took a break at a random shaved ice shop & they had the BEST shaved ice i had in the entire trip. The mango one was soooo sweet & refreshing at the same time. #taiwan #kaohsiung #cijin island
Cijin Island Seashell view!
A day trip to cijin island from kaohsiung Taiwan during the hot summer time!! Weather was burning & we explored the island by renting bicycles upon arriving at Cijin Island after a short ferry ride from the harbour.
I think having a bike to explore the island is the best way, however for individuals who are not the best in their fitness, you can actually rent motorbikes as well, or get taxi rides!
The entire cijin island isn’t that big, so 1 day would be enough for you to explore all the instagramable spots on the island.
This seashell attraction is one of those located at the far end of the island, however when we were there, there were no other tourists around which was good! & you’ll be able to see beautiful sea views there while you’re taking ur perfect tourist shots!
Loved Cijin island. (Part 2 will be continued) #taiwan #kaohsiung
