Hidden Treasures: Exploring the Magical Silver Cave in Guilin
#chinatrip#guilin
Visiting Silver Cave in Guilin was an unforgettable experience, as we ventured into a breathtaking underground world of natural wonders. The cave stretched deep into the karst mountains, revealing a stunning display of stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years. Under the colorful lights, the formations glistened like silver and diamonds, creating a magical, dreamlike atmosphere. Each section of the cave seemed to tell a story, from towering columns to crystal-clear pools reflecting the beauty above. Walking through the winding paths, we were constantly amazed by the intricate shapes and textures nature had sculpted over time. It’s no wonder there’s a saying, 游了银子岩,一世不缺钱— visiting Silver Cave truly felt like stepping into a world of hidden treasures.
Morning Serenity on the Li River: A Picture-Perfect Guilin Experience
#chinatrip #guilin
We made the right choice to visit Li River in Guilin as early as possible in the morning and take the first boat ride of the day. The early hours gifted us with a serene and magical experience as the river was calm, almost mirror-like, perfectly reflecting the stunning karst mountains that surround it. The soft morning light cast a gentle glow on the landscape, making the scenery even more enchanting, as if we had stepped into a traditional Chinese ink painting. The tranquility of the moment, with mist lingering over the water and birds gliding silently overhead, was simply unforgettable. Starting the day early allowed us to avoid the crowds and fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and peace of this iconic destination.
THRILLS ON A RUYI GLASS BRIDGE, DON'T LOOK DOWN !
#chinatrip
Walking on the Ruyi Glass Bridge is both stunning and nerve wracking.
The winding high red bridge has breathtaking views of uniquely shaped karst mountains.
The short glass floor section adds a thrilling challenge, looking down amplifies the fear, making legs feel wobbly.
My personal experience, just avoid looking down and walk straight until you reach the end.
The same goes for taking pictures, never ever look down.
Its definitely a mix of awe and terror, but its all worth it.

101Guide: Xingping Ancient Town 兴平古镇 the RMB20 Place
👀 Introduction:
Xingping Ancient City (兴平古镇) or aka Xingping Old Town is located on the banks of the Lijiang River in the north of Yangshuo. Known to be as old as 1700+ you can still see many historical buildings still not dilapidated, which is kinda amazing. I have been to more than 🔟 ancient towns but this really stands out in terms of the ancient bridges 🌉, building architecture 🏢, wharf and other scenic areas.. Simply Amazing!! Also this place is home to the iconic RMB20 💵 scene which I think needs no introduction.
🏖️ The Attraction:
The town is kinda a smallish area which you can probably go round it in 10 or 15mins. It's no way compared to Yangshuo West Street which is much much bigger and more commercialized. However, if you like nature.. imagine having a cuppa coffee with the beautiful mountains ⛰️ as a backdrop or some scenic landscape with the ethnic minorities doing the audio 🔉 overlay. Priceless!!
As with many popular tourist 🏖️ spots in China, the only negativity is the flood of tourist flocking the place (esp in a small place like Xingping Ancient City). From morning the whole place will be super crowded, jamming from cafes ☕ to restaurants 🍲 and even streets. Was lucky to find the Rosemary Cafe (which is also a hotel), located just at the border of the entrance and more importantly . Peaceful. Love the Caramel Macciato ☕ here which was creamy and nice. The staff and people here are super friendly too.. 💡 Recommended for a visit here!
If you have been to Ancient Villages especially near Guilin or Guiyang before, the same stuff applies.. beer fish 🐠, cafes, osmanthus 🌸 flavored products and handicrafts.. Pretty standard stuffs. Strangely, most of the cafes ☕ open quite late. Like I mentioned, this place is definitely not a shopping destination. It's more nature and fresh air...and speaking of that, was told by a local here that the air here is "sweetly fresh" and you can virtually feel it.. every breath you take ☺️. I concur.
🔚 Conclusion
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4.5/5
The place is really relaxing 🧘♂️ and score full marks in "Nature Therapy" namely calming with positive effect, both mentally and physically. We really enjoyed ourselves here and I wouldn't mind visiting this place again. 💡 Tip: There are 2 alternative routes to this place. We chose the slightly longer way where you go through Yangshuoxian (country road route). Amazing scenic views and the fresh air here is unbelievable. Check it out!!

101Guide: Guilin Central Square - An Evening Walk
#guilin #100waysoftravel
👀 Introduction:
Guilin (桂林) is a scenic town and one of the best-known tourist destinations in China 🇨🇳. These include Longsheng (Longji rice terraces), the Elephant 🐘 Trunk Hill, the Li River, which is printed on the back of ¥20 bank notes 💵, Yangshuo, a small county downstream from Guilin. This post only explores the surroundings of Guilin Central Square and aims to offer a quick guide for tourist here. 💡 Fun Fact: Guilin actually stands for “Forest of Sweet Osmanthus”, which is why you will notice Osmanthus everywhere around here.
🏖️ The Attractions:
Our starting point was JieFang Bridge 🌉 (解放桥) which is a pretty good instagrammable spot 📸. Whilst the bridge 🌉 itself isn't really appealing (esp the daytime ☀️) but at night 🌃 .. the bridge has light blue lighting which looks rather cool. Not to be missed, there is also a Pagoda (Zhuangyuan Lang) to the North West. We made our way to the lower deck of Binjiang Road which you will find many livestream and music 🎶 enthusiasts doing live shows. The place is also famous with locals as a fishing 🎣 spot.
On the BinJiang Road 滨江路, there is currently a long stretch of night-market which has food stalls, arts 🎨 & crafts stuffs, books 📚 and other interesting items for sale here. The place is super crowded especially around live performances of bands 🎸 and live streaming of singers. The crowd here comes from all walks of life 👭.
We then proceeded to the Guilin Central Square Night Market which we stopped by for our dinner @ JinJiang PiJiu Yu 金奖啤酒鱼 for Guilin's Signature Beer Fish 🐠. The dish 🍲 fared averagely only here but I'm sure there are better ones around since we were spoilt for choices here at the night market. We made our way to Jiefang West Road which is also filled with a wide variety of food from western pizzas 🍕 to some local delicacies.
Synonymous with the Guilin name, the Guilin Central Square Night Market is also famous for Osmanthus products which ranges from food, biscuits, perfume, coffee ☕ to tea 🍵. Basically you can find most edible products "flavored" with Osmanthus. I personally like the Bean Curd Osmanthus which is really nice and delicious 😋.
Guilin is also well known for its snacks and the use of spices, especially chili. So for Chilli 🌶️ lovers you can consider buying some spices and food ingredients here. Anyway, the no 1 chili sauce here is made from fresh chili, garlic and fermented soybeans. 💡 Tip: It is considered as one of Guilin’s three treasures.
To quench out thirst, we stopped at the Back Garden Irish Pub to basically chill and relax after a long walk. This place serves foreign draft beers 🍻 on-tap such as Tiger 🐯 Beer and Guinness Draft, which the manager claims they are the only one in the whole of Guilin. The manager and guests are nice and friendly too.

Thrilling and Scenic Bamboo Rafting Adventure at Guilin's Yulong River
#rafting #100waysoftravel #bamboorafting #china #Guilin
Rafting at Yulong River in Guilin is a must-do activity and a great way to take in the stunning scenery of the area. The rafts, made of bamboo, are navigated by skilled raft masters with each raft accommodating two people. The raft masters are incredibly skilled, especially when maneuvering over the rocks during downhill sections. Even as we braced ourselves and held onto the rail tightly, a little nervous, the raft remained stable, never flipping over. It was a thrilling experience, but we felt safe under their expert control, allowing us to fully enjoy the beauty of Guilin’s landscapes.
The most amazing part is that we didn’t get completely soaked—just our feet got a little wet. However, I still recommend wearing waterproof shoes, just in case. That way, you can fully enjoy the rafting experience without worrying about getting wet, making the adventure even more relaxed and enjoyable.
Li River, one of Earth's most beautiful wonders
Originating in Mao'er Mountain in Xing'an county northeast of Guilin, the Li River winds its way southeast for about 437 km, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle, Zhaoping and finally meets Xi River in Wulin. It boasts the largest and most beautiful scenic area in China and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The 83-km-long waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo is like a masterpiece. The landscape is decorated with rolling hills, steep cliffs, fantastic caves, leisurely boats and is lined with bamboo.
Most people who love Guilin scenery will also have a crush on the fishing scene: poling on a little bamboo raft, the fisherman light the kerosene lamp with a cormorant standing next to him and are ready to catch the fish. This classic scene is rarely to be seen since people who make a living out of fishing are less and less.

The best hike in Guilin China
Guilin is famous for it's stunning limestone hills and could make you feel like you're in an Avatar movie. Many people visit Guilin but miss out on a chance to see it from above. Guilin has many hiking spots nestled around these limestone hills. Here is one of the best spot, Laozhai Mountain: a short but intense hike. This hike only takes 30 minutes but it definitely packs a punch. Going uphill continuously with a mixture of 1159 stone stairs and nearly vertical ladders, it’s a workout. The whole hike is signposted. Just keep putting one foot in the front of the other and grab on to those ladders. If you come here before the crack of dawn or as the day ends, you’ll be one happy hiker to witness the beauty of the golden hour #china #guilin #hiking
Incredible nature views
There are multiple ways of exploring the lijiang river or the li river and its scenic areas. Basically the river flows theough the National Park stretches from guilin to yanshuo city. This allows for several points of interest and then there are riverside settlements. Also certain hiking or view spots.
Depending upon when you come and how long you have, you will be able to pick activities. While I had a couple of days, the prices did seem a little over what I expected for certain river cruises and there was limited hiking available. I did eventually explore with the region with easier and satisfying activities like the bamboo river raft. It may help to come in season with ideal conditions but guilin is extremely touristy too. Nevertheless the whole area along the li river is a very beautiful and should be explored.

⛰️ The park isn't huge, but it offers caves, mountain climbing, amusement facilities, and lively folk performances.
🌼 After enjoying the show, we strolled through a beautiful garden and found charming shops with lovely souvenirs.

Jaw-Dropping Longji Rice Terraces - A Bucket List Destination in China
Visited the breathtaking Longji Terraced Rice Fields in Guilin, China and it was an unforgettable experience! 🌾
The scale of these ancient rice paddies is truly massive - they stretch across the hillsides as far as the eye can see, creating a mesmerizing patchwork landscape. 😍
Walking through the fields, you're surrounded by the lush greenery and the gentle sound of flowing water. It's such a serene and picturesque setting. 🌳🌱💦
I opted to take the cable car up for 55 yuan 🤑, which offers stunning panoramic views from the top. Then I hiked down through the heart of the rice terraces, which took about 30 minutes. The walk down was absolutely worth it - you really get to immerse yourself in the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage site. 🚠🏔️
If you don't want to hike down, you can just get a round-trip cable car ticket for 100 yuan 💰. But I'd highly recommend the walk if you're able - it's an unforgettable way to experience the Longji rice fields up close. 👣🌾
This is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the Guilin region. The scale, the scenery, the peace and quiet - it's an absolute gem. Truly one of the most incredible places I've ever been. Definitely add it to your China travel bucket list! 🤩🇨🇳

However, the iconic elephant trunk shape is best viewed from the opposite side of the river. 🌉 So be sure to venture across to witness this natural wonder in all its glory!

📸 After rafting, we explored nearby and found locals with 🦅 for photos. The area wasn't crowded, perfect for taking photos with the beautiful mountain and river backdrop.

😋 🐟 Delicious Dining at Dashifu Gorden Beer Fish
🐟 🐟 🍻 Just around the corner from our hotel (Zhenmei Resort) on Yangshuo West Street, we found Dashifu Gorden Beer Fish Restaurant. With many branches in Yangshuo, it’s a must-try spot. Their specialty, Yangshuo’s beer fish, is exceptionally flavorful—even as a non-seafood lover, I loved it!

Mesmerizing Li River 🏞
Yangshuo is one of the five most beautiful scenic places in China. With that, the best, most beautiful, and more ideal way for both a transfer and a sightseeing experience during your natural scenery exploration in Guilin is to take the Li River crouse from Gulin to Yangshuo (However, there is no Li River cruise back from Yangshuo to Guilin at present.
Li River offers the best chance for your complete appreciation of the picturesque Guilin Karst mountain landscape in total leisure. With the soft breeze, you will encounter the marvelous scene of the Nine-Horse Fresco, a famous lively image on the back of the 20 RMB note. There are two comfort levels of cruises 3 stars and 4 stars.
Suggested:
I suggest staying 1 or 2 nights in Gulin and then taking an early morning cruise to Yangshuo and staying another 2 days there.
How to book tickets:
To book the Li River cruse tickets, you can book through the official platform of Li River Cruise, however, which can only be completed on the Official Account on WeChat.
You can buy the ticket on site at the dock. However, the cruise tickets are sold out very quickly during peak season from April to November. Therefore, you are still suggested to book the Li River cruise ticket in advance.
Visitors booking Li River Cruise by your own need to collect your tickets at the 3 specific sites in Guilin:
Site 1: No.9 West Lane, Zhengyang Road, Guilin (桂林市正阳路西巷9号)
Site 2: Entrance of Parking Lot in Xiangshan Park, Minzhu Road, Guilin (桂林市民主路象山公园停车场入口)
Site 3: 1F, Xiangshang Mansion, No.31 Canluan Road, Guilin (桂林市骖鸾路31号湘商大厦一楼)
Cost:
For 3-Star Cruise: 215RMB/ person. (30-50RMB/person for Chinese lunch needs to be paid extra)
For 4-Star Cruise: 360-480 RMB/person (Chinese and Western buffet lunch (included in the price))

Guilin: Longsheng sunrise at rice terraces
Longsheng is famous for its beautiful rice terraced fields and ethnic villages in mountainous areas. The well-known Longji Rice Terraced Fields were built along the mountains slopes wind from the riverside up to the mountain top.
You need to take a bus from Guilin to Longsheng to get here. it’s a perfect place for a relaxation. Just enjoy the scenery, observe the local people and they are lifestyle. Wake up early in the morning and go to watch the beautiful sunset that you will not probably see anywhere else. Local food is amazingly fresh and delicious.
We went there in the end of May when the fields were filled with water which reflected the sky and the sun. As for me I think it’s the best time to observe the terraces. However, they say November is also good as the fields turn gold and the view is also breathtaking.#guilin ##Longsheng ##riceterrace#china #trip

It is always impressive when we get closer to those spiky big mountains and being on adds an immersive experience! 🏔️

we decided to go from Xingping village to the famous 9 horses mountain 🐎.
I have to say it wasn't my favorite trip, I expected more.
Our hotel had a deal for about 200rmb per person that includes pick up from our hotel in the West Street Area (45 min to Xingping) and return. Not a bad deal but still not sure if it is worth the money 💰.

Elephant Trunk Hill Park
Elephant Trunk Hill Park is a lovely place to visit even on a wetter day. The park meanders around much of the lake, and while it can be very busy in places, it is not hard to find peace and quiet. The views from the top are fantastic, and the views of the main rock from across the lake are lovely. Not worth a specific trip, but definitely a nice extra if you are in or near Guilin.#guilin #Elephant #parks #lakes

With borders and visas finally back in action, it’s a great time to travel to the vast and beautiful lands of China. Filled with history, culture, scenery and incredible food to boot, spending three weeks here can disappear in the blink of an eye.
So how best to spend your time?
5 days in Shanghai (you can have a day trip to SuZhou here) - here you can see Nanjing Road, The Bund, the French concession, Jingan Temple, Xuhui district and much more
4 days in Xian - obviously the biggest sight to see is the Terracotta Warriors which will take a whole day. there is also a show at the city walls in the evening which shouldn’t be missed and food in the Muslim quarter
4 days in Chengdu - the pandas if that’s you’re kind of thing. Chengdu is a great place to chill, get lost and drink lots of craft beer! Go to the Tibetan area!
5 days in Guilin (you can have a day trip to Yangshuo here) - The lakes, the caves, the rice terraces, Yangshou and a show
I travelled with my 60+ year old dad and aunt and we took the train between cities - it’s a lot but it’s not impossible!!
Stunning Yangshuo Courtyard with a view ⛰️
Yangshuo has been my go to summer getaway destination for the past three years, it’s relaxing, slow-paced and stunningly beautiful.
The Giggling Tree/Gegeshu hotel is nestled away from the town centre/West Street area and easily accessible by moped (plus you get to enjoy riding through some of the most breathtaking scenery en route).
The beautiful rustic courtyard is away from the street and far enough from the crowds of West Street that you feel really at peace here.
The full English breakfast set came with a coffee and a juice for 50rmb and is a welcome taste of home. I sat in the courtyard under an umbrella and read my book over breakfast one morning and it was really tranquil. Some of the staff speak English and are really helpful, and their menu is also available in English.
Even if you’re not staying here, I would recommend coming for a coffee or a meal in a relaxing environment.
