Ruins or art? The historical riches a day trip from Bangkok
I was surprised to learn how easy it is to get to the Buddha head embedded in a banyan tree. Listed as a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE and famously advertised by many, this is a great day trip!
Deciding how to get there and back, what we wanted to see, we opted to rent a motorbike in Bangkok and ride it all the way, sightseeing all day. The nearby sights are as spectacular as visiting the never rebuilt ancient city.
A photographer’s dream location!
🏖BAmbiance/Facilities: Local vendors selling water and seasonal fruits are by the main gate.
📍Address: Tha Wasukri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya 13000, Thailand
💰Average Price per Person: 50 Baht.
💞Reasons to Recommend: Learning about historical events, cultural history and learning from local people is priceless.
📸 Photos are permitted. However to demonstrate courtesy, pictures should be taken from a kneeling or crouching position. Men are encouraged to wear long pants and women to cover knees and shoulders.
🏎 Getting there from Bangkok is as easy as booking a grab ride, riding a motorbike or taking a bus for a self guided tour, alternatively speak to your nearest travel agent for a guided tour.

Amazing day in Tirana!
We only had 1 day in Tirana but omg it was breathtaking! We started off in Skanderbeg Square where there was a cool Roman Mosaic mural and drinking water taps. It was the day of the Tirana marathon so there was local entertainment on many streets.
Our first stop was the House of Leaves. It is a gem, honestly, a super engaging museum with an immersive insight into the servailance state that the area had become and the effects it had on the locals.
Subsequently we visited the orthodox church which was guilded in sublime decor throughout!
After that we went to Bunk'Art 2. Honestly, after the House of Leaves, it felt underwhelming, and a bit of a tourist trap but it did give a real sense of what a larger scale inner city bunker would have felt like.
We then went to try and find Tirana Castle, only to find out that it was an area of restaurants, and promptly went to Dajti.
Upon reaching Dajti, we visited Bunk'Art 1, which was a breath of fresh air after our earlier disappointment. Bunk'Art 1 felt much more immersive into the juxtaposing lives of the commanders and the commoners in that time. We then scaled the mountain in the Dajti Express which had breathtaking views! There's plenty to do at the top, with a restaurant, zipline adventure, mini golf, hotel and more!
It was a satisfying end to our day with a view of the sunset down the cable car and a 40min bus back to the city centre.
I'm not gonna lie, I don't think there was anything else that we wanted to see in the area that would've warranted another day in the city but it's a good place to stay is you also want to visit Durres and the Cape of Rodon.

Oct East Park: Nature’s Oasis
Oct East Park is an exciting recreational destination located close to Dameisha Beach, where visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions and activities. This park is known for its lush landscapes, adventure zones, and scenic views, making it a great spot for families and thrill-seekers alike. You can partake in fun activities like zip-lining, rock climbing, and nature walks. However, be prepared for large crowds, especially on weekends when both the park and the nearby beach attract many visitors. Riomaggiore day trip 🇮🇹
#italytrip
Spent a day in Riomaggiore, one of the beautiful villages in Cinque Terre, and it was like stepping into a postcard! The train from La Spezia was just a few euros, and once you arrive, you're greeted by colorful houses stacked on the cliffs overlooking the sea 🌊🏘️. There’s no entrance fee to the village itself, but if you want to hike the trails between the villages, you'll need a Cinque Terre Trekking Card, which costs around €7.50.
We started with a walk down to the harbor, where the boats and crystal-clear waters made for some stunning photos. For lunch, we grabbed some fresh seafood at a little trattoria overlooking the water – the anchovies and pesto pasta were incredible 🍝🐟. Then, we strolled through the narrow, winding streets, checking out the local shops selling everything from ceramics to lemon-themed souvenirs.
The Via dell'Amore trail was unfortunately closed, but we still enjoyed hiking a bit up the hillside for some incredible views of the village and the sea. If you have time, take a dip in the harbor or just relax on the rocks and soak up the sun.
Riomaggiore is a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure, with that authentic Italian charm. Can't recommend it enough for a day trip!

Dresden's best
Dresden, the capital of Saxony region in Germany is absolutely fantastic with all the historic buildings perseved in the city centre. Many of them actually were destroyed during the Second Word War, but thankfully later on they were rebuilt, so even today we can enjoy this precious baroque and rococo style.
The Zwinger is under renovation right now, but the Frauenkirche and the Royal Palace are in great condition. They would form my top 3 best places to visit there.

Hanwell Zoo 🇬🇧
#animalcontact
My visit to Hanwell Zoo was a delightful escape into wildlife and nature! 🦁 Located just a short drive from London, the zoo’s entrance fee was around £15, which felt quite reasonable for the experience. The zoo is small but well-maintained, with a variety of animals including tigers, lemurs, and penguins. 🐯🦜
I particularly enjoyed the interactive areas where you can learn more about the animals and their habitats. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, which added to the overall experience. 🦒
Nearby, the picturesque Hanwell Lock is perfect for a relaxing walk along the canal, and it’s a great spot for a picnic after your zoo visit. 🚶♂️🍂
Overall, Hanwell Zoo offers a charming and educational outing for families and animal lovers alike. It’s a great day trip from London with a mix of fun and learning! #trip #HanwellZoo #FamilyFun #WildlifeExperience #AnimalLovers #DayTrip

Spent a beautiful day in Valladolid 🇪🇸
#summerdestinations
My day trip to Valladolid, Spain, was the perfect blend of history, culture, and relaxation! 🌞 Just a short train ride from Madrid, this charming city is rich in heritage, with stunning architecture at every turn. The first stop was the Plaza Mayor, one of the oldest main squares in Spain, with its vibrant red buildings and bustling atmosphere. From there, I wandered over to the National Sculpture Museum. The entrance fee was just 3 EUR, a bargain to see incredible works of art dating back to the Renaissance period. 🏛️ The detail in each sculpture was simply breathtaking.
Next, I visited the San Pablo Church, an architectural masterpiece that is hard to miss with its intricate facade and towering spires. 🌟 The interior is equally impressive, with beautiful altars and stained glass windows that caught the sunlight perfectly. After soaking in the history, I headed over to Campo Grande Park, a lush green oasis in the heart of the city. It was the perfect place to relax and watch the peacocks strut around. 🦚
Before leaving, I couldn't resist trying some local cuisine at a nearby tapas bar. The croquettes and Iberian ham were delicious, and the wine from the Ribera del Duero region was the perfect way to end the day. 🍷 Valladolid is a city that combines the past with the present effortlessly, making it a wonderful spot for a day trip. Whether you’re a history buff, an art lover, or just looking for a new place to explore, Valladolid won’t disappoint!

Marseille - Halfday Island Tour
#islandtours
If you are in Marsellie you must have definitely heard about the prision island or if you have read the classic count of Monte cristo. This will interest you very much. It's a popular half day tour to the island.
In my case I had the benefit of a Marseille card. And this boat ride is included in that. (By the ways on a side note, this Marseille pass is highly recommended as it not only includes the boat ride but also the petite train ride and 24 hours of public transport usage.)
It's a wonderful fort and then the view all the way along was spectacular. You could easily spend half an hour or more at the fort. There is a beach too with rocks. The boat is every hour. At the site there is a cafe and restaurant as well. But the prices are terrible. I would recommend carrying something to eat and drink. You could even have a picnic on the island!

Louisiana - art and nature together!
This museum itself is a piece of art!
Surrounded by nature you will find this art museum, located on the shore of the Øresund Sound and 45 minutes by train from København Central station, at a small city called Humlebæk.
There you can find an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art. On the outside, the seashore’s views and the sculptures creates this Ghibli-alike atmosphere which makes you feel connected with the world.
The museum is also acknowledged as a milestone in modern Danish architecture, and is noted for its synthesis of art, architecture, and landscape.
Price: around 140 dkk per person
Hope you enjoy it! It’s really worth visiting 😊

A day in Sibenik 😍
#summerdestinations
I had an amazing day exploring Šibenik, Croatia, and it was a perfect mix of history and coastal charm! My first stop was the stunning St. James’s Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The €6 entrance fee was well worth it for the intricate stonework and impressive architecture.
After wandering the cathedral, I strolled through the medieval streets of the old town, discovering quaint cafes and local shops. A highlight was the beautiful views from the Fortress of St. Michael, which had a €5 entrance fee and offered panoramic vistas of the city and the Adriatic Sea.
I also enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at the nearby Banj Beach, which is free and has clear waters perfect for a swim. Šibenik’s blend of historical sites and scenic beauty made it a fantastic day trip! 🌊🏰 #trip #Šibenik #CroatianCoast #HistoricSites #MediterraneanViews #DayTrip
Lovely view from the top
There are certain monuments that are or rather more photogenic from a distance. While the galata tower does allow great pics from near as well. Also, from the top you get a nice view of the istanbul city. The experience of getting up there may not be the most pleasant.
This was part of my itinerary during the day and it being summer things were extra hot. Also, it was quite crowded for a monument this size. It is historically important. Dates back to the 14th century and remained the highest tower. Unfortunately the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top so you still have to take a few more steps to reach the balcony.
As mentioned earlier, it being summer and this not being an airport conditioned venue, caused the experience to be somewhat unpleasant. However, once up there it was more airy and nicer. One can enjoy the scenic views of Istanbul from here and should you be here in the evening (better temperature) you might even enjoy the whole experience of getting there too.

A medieval pilgrimage site
#myhiddengems
Ever since I read about Rocamdour, I had been trying to figure out where and when to squeeze it into my itinerary. My stay in dordogne was very comfortable. I made some great friends too and so ended up staying a few more days. Some of the people I knew were more keen on day trips. Turns out that was the best way to go about it.
We finally put together a plan for Rocamdour. We were about a little more than 100 kms away. And it made sense to cover what's on the way and slightly further as a way of making the most of the day. The plan included Rocamdour, Village of Alvignac and Gouffre de Padiric which is only about 12kms further.
From a day trip perspective, I would recommend starting sooner. You see it's a very small town settled atop a hill. There is one main street and some pilgrimage sites. For those who have trouble climbing or the stairs. There is a halfway lift as well. Since it is a small town it does get a bit crowded. The early hours were much better. And the best of pictures of this town were all from a distance with a proper view of it.

A Harry Potteresque Gothic Gem
#myhiddengems
While in Paris, we did debate about whether the 4 hr long journey to Mont St. Michel would be worth it or better skipped. Something about it though that gothic element and it reminding me of Harry Potter movies made me want to go. Now that i have done so. Allow me to share a perspective that could help others.
It is located in lower Normandy which as mentioned will take you a good 4 hours to get there. The travel time is what deters people when considering it as a day trip from Paris. There is a direct train from Paris Montparnasse station to Pontorson- Mont St Michel and arrive in 3 hours 45 minutes. Tickets were around 32 USD each way. Then there is the option of travelling by road (bus).
Despite the considerable time that is spent on the journey. Which wasn't all that bad for me as I have my podcasts and what not to listen to/watch and kill time. But this can be tiring physically. So choose a comfortable travel mode. Anywho, upon getting there and the sights it offered. Made the trip worth it for me. It's unusual and you could get some stunning pictures. The setting of the castle too is special.
Here's a pro tip, while you are looking at 350+ steps to climb in the castle. A decent amount of steps can be avoided by taking the Fanils entrance. For me I don't mind stairs at all as they form a regular part of my workout routine. Entry to st Michel is free but entering the abbey would require tickets. And know that it generally is crowded. But this hidden gem can be a great addition to your day trip portfolio while in france.

Home of Charles Darwin - Down House 🇬🇧
#londontrip
During my summer trip, I had the chance to visit Down House, the home of Charles Darwin, located in the charming village of Downe, just outside London. The entrance fee was £11.50, and it was worth every penny! 🌿🏠
Stepping into the house, it felt like stepping back in time. The rooms are beautifully preserved, and you can see Darwin's study where he wrote "On the Origin of Species." It's fascinating to walk through his personal space and get a glimpse of his daily life. 📚🔬
The garden was a highlight for me. It's lush and well-maintained, and knowing that Darwin himself conducted many of his experiments here made it even more special. I spent a good hour just wandering around, enjoying the peace and tranquility. 🌸🦋
Nearby, you can explore the charming village of Downe, which has some lovely pubs and cafes. If you have time, a visit to the nearby High Elms Country Park is also recommended for a relaxing nature walk. 🌳🍃
Down House also offers interactive exhibits and a detailed audio guide, which provides great insights into Darwin's work and family life. It's a great spot for families, history buffs, and anyone with an interest in science. 👨👩👧👦🔍
Overall, visiting Down House was an enlightening experience. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in history and science. #DownHouse #CharlesDarwin #History #Science #DayTrip #LondonAttractions 🌿✨

Shirakawa-go - Quaint, UNESCO Heritage site
A beautiful UNESCO Heritage site preserved for it's gassho-zukuri style houses built to withstand heavy snow and earthquakes.
It'd have been even more beautiful in winter (and freezing too!).
I only planned enough time to try some street food, but it was still a very enjoyable and relaxing day-trip for me.
Hida beef is a must-try if you have no food restrictions. It is less oily and I prefer this to the famous A5-wagyu.
I made bookings for direct bus through and fro Kanazawa station and Shirakawa-go Ogimachi (bus station) that took about 1.5 hours, Y2600 one-way.
Unless you wish to stay overnight for the experience, a day-trip is sufficient to walk around (2 to 3 hours to cover the entire village), visit some paid exhibitions to learn about the way of life of the people in the past, and trying some street food or local-style cuisine at some eateries.
You can learn a lot from the paid exhibitions as they display the items with illustrations that show how they were worn or used.
Featured Places:
(1) Observation deck for panoramic view of the town - 20 min. hike up a road.
(2) Kanda and Wada houses (paid exhibitions) - learn about the people's way of life in the past, how tools and clothing were used
(3) Myozenji temple
Featured Street Food:
(1) Hida beef (2-way) and Pork Sushi - freshly prepared and to be consumed immediately
(2) Hida beef and pork tongue skewer
(3) Hida beef bun - offered by multiple stores throughout the town

I can also say you might regret not coming here especially if you are into architecture and interior details. From the exterior color to the majestic detailing of the interiors, everything about this museum screams whimsical! I actually did not realize this at first but you can go inside the elephant structure at the top. How could you pass up the opportunity to be inside the belly of the elephant?
Although what you see might be very fairy tale-like, the whole temple grounds is considered to be sacred. The museum is divided into 3 levels: the basement (exhibition), 1st floor, and the elephant belly which symbolizes heaven. The stairway at the 1st floor is creaky haha, I definitely took my time going up. Once we were at the belly of the elephant, I still can’t believe I’m inside it. Haha. I was really super curious how it was constructed and where are the structural supports as the belly is also hollow and doesn’t show any structural support inside.
I super enjoyed this visit more than I thought I would. Shoes aren’t allowed inside and I believe individual photos of the Gods inside the belly aren’t allowed, so please be careful. One is supposed to be quiet and respectful once inside the belly.
