XUFUYAN WATERFALL 💦
Now that the weather is warming up in Ningbo, this is definitely a place you’ll want to visit to cool off and tune out of the city vibe!
Xufuyan Waterfall, located about 6km west to Xuedou Temple, is well-known in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River for its highly-hanging waterfall and perilous precipice. It got the name of "Xufu" from the story that an immortal rose slowly to heaven from here on a wild animal, "Fu".
Xufu Cliff is 667m high while the falling head is 242m, which is called "the First Waterfall
in east China". Besides, the steep cliffs here are very striking and beautiful. Many famous poets in the Tang Dynasty (960-1127), including Liu Changqin, Pi Rixiu, Lu Guimeng, Fang Gan, etc, were enchanted by the beautiful scenery here and wrote many poems about it.
At the entrance m, you need to purchase a ticket and you can choose the package you want, some of the options include:
🔹only hiking
🔹camping
🔹glass bridge
🔹via ferrata
When you make your way down to the waterfall, you will encounter a lot of steps. And I do mean a LOT. The infrastructure is great, so you don’t need to worry about the ground itself, but man it’s tiring 😅 Close to the waterfall, there is also an incredibly well-maintained bathroom. I was surprised at how clean it was and it smelled so good. I had no problems to change clothes and use the restroom when needed, that made the trip 10x better!
In front of the waterfall there is a small sand area where we were able to sit, tan, enjoy the views, and have a picnic 😋 In case you plan on doing the same, make sure to bring a trash bag with you and clean up when you’re done! Leave the place as you found it.
Although there is a sign saying swimming is prohibited, the day was just too hot to not enjoy that crystal blue water. During the hours when the sun is fully out, the place was pretty much empty, so I took advantage of that and went for a swim. 💯% worth it. The water is amazing, super clear, and shallow the first two or three meters. After that it does get deep, good to dive and swim around! I do believe the sign is there just for precaution, as the area is not really monitored (there are cameras right there, but no actual security or life guards), and not because the water is potentially dangerous or something. But that’s just my personal opinion and I actually have no idea lol
⚠️ Do watch out for animals around you at all times. As we were leaving, we spotted a little snake swimming across the water! 🐍
