Helsinki – A Perfect Blend of Nature and Urban Life
#traveldiaries
Helsinki, Finland’s capital, offers a unique travel experience that blends modern urban life with natural beauty. I enjoyed exploring its design district, world-class museums, and nearby islands. Don’t miss the Suomenlinna sea fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and take a boat ride to explore the nearby archipelago. Helsinki’s clean air and stunning parks make it a fantastic destination for those who love both city life and nature.

Citywalk in Finland’s Capital!
A city walk in Helsinki can be a delightful experience. You might start at the central train station, an architectural gem by Eliel Saarinen. From there, head to the nearby Senate Square to admire the impressive Helsinki Cathedral. Stroll down Aleksanterinkatu for shopping and cafes, then visit the Esplanadi park for a break.
You could explore the Design District, home to unique boutiques and galleries. Don't miss the Market Square (Kauppatori) for local food and crafts. For a more historical touch, walk to the Fortress of Suomenlinna, which requires a short ferry ride but offers a scenic view and rich history.
Helsinki also has beautiful seaside promenades and parks like the Sibelius Park, where you can see the Sibelius Monument. If you have time, visit the Temppeliaukio Church, built into rock, for its unique architecture.

HELSINKI
Helsinki is a totally unique combination of quirky urbanity and peaceful nature that gives silence and space to feel more, hear more and experience more.
Helsinki delights travellers with its sea-facing landscape, diverse architecture, world-famous design, and Nordic cuisine. Finland’s capital is compact enough to explore on foot, and many reputable hotels are in the centre of the action. Among its many sights are unique churches, a UNESCO-listed fortress, and traditional marketplaces dating back to the 19th century.
There’s a passion for sharing what makes Finland truly a unique and wonderful country to not only visit but live in. There’s a love for slowing down, being connected to the outdoors, and, of course, that incredible design scene.
It’s all of these things and more that make traveling to Helsinki an experience to remember.

Cheap trip to Helsinki by cruise
Helsinki is the beautiful capital of Finland, located by the Baltic Sea. I traveled to this city from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, by cruise for 21 euros(July 2023). The cruise travel time was about two hours, which is not tiring at all considering the cruise facilities.
Best places to visit in Helsinki:
Senate Square, Helsinki Cathedral , Uspenski Cathedral and Helsinki Railway Station

Recall the Christmas time in Helsinki and Santa Claus Village
During Christmas time in Helsinki, the city is transformed into a winter wonderland with its streets and parks decorated with colorful lights and ornaments.
A short trip from Helsinki will take you to Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, where you can meet Santa Claus himself, cross the Arctic Circle, and enjoy a range of winter activities such as sleigh rides and snowmobiling. Helsinki Cathedrals
Location: Helsinki, capital city of Finland
Getting there: Helsinki international airport flies to most cities in Europe and many worldwide cities including China and America.
Helsinki is the first major city into Europe coming from China. I often make this my first stop into Europe. The architecture and colours of the various cathedrals in the center of the city are just marvelous. I recommend taking a walk along the streets and parks to gaze at their beauty in this skyline.

Uspenski Cathedral - Helsinki, Finland
Located in the city centre of Helsinki, the Uspenski Cathedral is also one of the most famous structure in Finland.
This is a Greek Orthodox cathedral, dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary). It was built in 1868.
It was a pity during my trip, the cathedral was closed thus unable to go inside. But if you’re in Helsinki, I would recommend you heading in to have a look, as admission is free!

Kamppi Chapel
#celebratewithtrip
From the outside, this place doesn’t look like a chapel, but a modern architectural site. The building is made of wood and elliptical in shape.
Lovely, silent experience. Impressive that wood can be enough for building such a graceful place. Very beautiful chapel. Minimalistic, free entrance and the staff were very nice. Inside it was super quiet and great for reflection.
Definitely recommended!

Suomenlinna
#celebratewithtrip
One of the best tourist attraction near Helsinki. It was a castle built to protect capital from foreign forces. It is very accessible via ferry from Helsinki port. This island is protected by UNESCO because its story and probably its fortress. Really lovely place. Definitely recommend a visit to walk around and enjoy the nature.

Fazer Café Kluuvikatu
#celebratewithtrip
This cafe has been here ever since its founding in 1891 ! So don't miss out on stepping into a piece of history when around this place. Enjoy the delicacies and sip a hot cup of coffee , we loved every bit of it !
Of the various Fazer Cafés, this is the original. Very upmarket, and typical high Helsinki prices. But what great cakes and pastries and coffee! Half the area is a shop showcasing the Fazer branded goodies. Will definitely come back next time I’m in Helsinki!

Helsinki Central railway station
#celebratewithtrip
The hearth of Helsinki! Here you can jump on a train, bus, tram, metro, taxi or lease a bike. Helsinki Central Station is as super as the other Scandinavian railway. Its building is very attractive and clean as the rest of Finland and Helsinki as well. The building is iconic, in a brutalist way.
Well organized place. There are some tickets machines to buy tickets at the station and even you can easily buy them online.

Senate Square Helsinki
#celebratewithtrip
One of the most popular destinations in Helsinki. This place houses the well known Helsinki Cathedral, a Finnish icon. Just be careful while climbing the staircase as it is quite steep.
The Senate Square has been Helsinki’s main square since the 17th century. The present square was built in 1808 by the Russians when they took charge of Finland.
The famous German architect Carl Ludvig Engel designed the square in such a manner that the buildings on the four sides of the square represented the four powers of the state as conceived at the time: senate, church, university, and commerce.

Temppeliaukion Church - The Stone Church
#celebratewithtrip
A must-try attraction when you visit Helsinki. Very beautiful, peaceful and holy place to not only Christians but also tourists. A special church was created by carving into a huge stone. So the locals call it as "the stone church".
Beautiful rock church open daily from 10am - 7 pm except Sundays. They offer 15 minute tours in English and Finnish. Cost to get in is 5 euro. Very lovely.

Sibelius Park

Being one of the main tourist attractions in Helsinki, the Sibelius monument attracts heaps of people. Located in the middle of a small but beautiful park, recommended to stop here for a while and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. It’s a nice, short walk though. It's a beautiful metal sculpture that would have you awestrucked.

Brisk fall forest walks
Finland in autumn is a crisp and coldish time. It can get a bit wet but it's still nice to walk around in the forest and catch the last few bits of warmish weather before the cold winter sets in.
Feel the crunch of fallen leaves under your feet as you breathe in cool fresh air! If the weather is nice then you're in for a treat as the golden leaves are brightly lit up with the pretty sunlight! Head for a walk through Finland's many wooded areas during autumn!

Good coffee in a pretty setting
Robert's coffee is a Finnish coffee chain that's all over Helsinki. Head over to the one on the Esplandi; the location doesn't even look like a coffeeshop from the outside, but the interior is a lovely decorated inside which though is large is cozy.
In the summer months, you can enjoy the beautiful Finnish summers on the terrace, which relaxing views of life passing by.
The coffee is tasty and very aromatic, which seems to be a recurring theme for Finnish coffee!

Find your inner child in Linnanmaki
Linnanmaki is the oldest and definitely the most conveniently located amusement park in Finland. This is especially true if you visit Helsinki.
It was first on 27th May 1950 and is still running in the same place it was founded.
The area has been growing steadily but is definitely reaching its limits quite soon due to the location of the park in the urban area of Helsinki near the center. In 2022, there are 43 different attractions. It might not sound very big number but the park management has done a good job in replacing old and obsolete equipment with new ones. One of the last big investments was the new rollercoaster called Taiga in 2019.
The wooden rollercoaster in Linnanmaki built in 1951 is the oldest still used wooden rollercoaster in the world. It’s not outdated at all, the ride is still amazing and year after year it’s among the most popular attractions in Linnanmaki.
You can find the amusement park from the address Tivolikuja 1 in Helsinki. It’s located within a walking distance from the center of Helsinki.

Cozy and modern hotel near HEL
The Clarion hotel is a lovely hotel that's only a 5 mins taxi ride, 5 mins train ride or 20 min walk from Helsinki airport.
The hotel is hip and modern and the rooms are cozy and many feature great views. It's very quiet around the area so dining options are limited. However the hotel also boasts a nice gym, and a comfortable sauna. Breakfast is also included and it is in a buffet style with many options to choose from.
Overall a great choice for being close to the airport or even to get to town as the train is very practical and frequent and the hotel is right above the train station.

A little robust but tasty
I visited this tiny (I mean really tiny) Thai restaurant called Kanokchai in Helsinki.
The place looks a little robust but the lady running the restaurant (by herself and alone) is very nice and cooks very good home-style Thai food.
The food isn’t Thai spicy as per default but I am sure it’s possible to have more fire to the curry in case it’s requested. Generally I could say that it’s one of the most authentic Thai restaurants in Helsinki.
The main issue is the capacity. One person can’t do much so she needs to serve people on a first-come-first-serve principle. So it might be a good idea to arrive during early lunch hours or early evening. The restaurant opens at 10:30 and closes at 19:00 but is closed on Sundays.
You can find Kanochai from Toolo, near the center of Helsinki. The address is Cygnaeuksenkatu 5.

Amos Rex Art Museum
In this art museum you can realize that anything can be art. The current exhibitions Subterranean and Tadashi Kawamata: The Nest are quite exquisite.
There's a room with a computer where you have to answer questions with South, North, West and more. From time to time, the game will ask you a yes or no question like: "Is this real?" and based on your answer it will give you one of your qualities. Turns out, I'm sceptic and the more i think about it, the more i relate to it.
I learned something about myself, for example, my taste in art and what kind of a person I am.
I really enjoyed it and I am hoping that you will too!!
