Frank Scandale, Editor of the Record of Bergen County is stepping down, according to a release from the paper issued today.
The search is on for a new editor of the Bergen County daily. In the interim, Doug Clancy, Assistant Managing Editor, will fill the paper’s top spot.
According to the release:
“After 11 years with North Jersey Media Group, Scandale has elevated the daily to a product consumers have come to know as their “trusted local source.” He led the paper’s award-winning coverage of the September 11 attacks. He was instrumental in introducing strong environmental coverage to the paper and broke the story about the Ford Motor Company’s toxic dumping in and around Mahwah, NJ. That story, and the resulting Toxic Legacy series, were instrumental in bringing attention to a critical New Jersey issue and inspired the HBO Documentary Mann v. Ford. Under Scandale, The Record was a finalist twice for the Pulitzer Prize, and won the New Jersey Press Association’s “general excellence” award as the state’s best large newspaper in 8 of the past 11 years.”
“Frank has been a great asset to The Record and has helped solidify our position in the very competitive New York NDM,” Publisher Stephen Borg said. “The challenges of meeting the expectations of an increasingly sophisticated readership continue, and we will be looking for creativity and a new kind of leadership to take the paper forward.”
