Marine Corps veteran Jason Castle announced his candidacy today for New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District.
“I am running for Congress because the challenges facing America today are so deep andcomplex that they threaten the very soul of our nation,” said Castle, who wants to run against U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-5). “Every day in this bleak economy we all fight to provide for our families. We have all made sacrifices and adjustedexpectations. Through all of this, politicians in Washington fight the same tired partisan battlesrather than working together to put forward the serious reforms needed to pass America through this crisis.
“We do not have to accept the most cynical beliefs that our government cannot change oradapt. Washington has failed because those in Washington have failed. They choose to acceptpersonal political gains over our nation’s progress. We must change the culture in Washingtonin order to change the results.”
Raised by his mother in Rahway, Castle attended Norwich University in Vermont.
Following September 11th, 2001, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as a member of the distinguished Silent Drill Platoon. Hedeployed as an infantryman with the ground combat element 1st Battalion, 8th Marines and evacuated US nationals from Lebanon.
He and his wife have two daughters and he works as an executive in the information technology industry, specializing in aiding small, mid-sized and Fortune 1000 businesses. They reside in Cliffside Park but are moving to Teaneck.
There are already two declared Democratic challengers in the 5th District: Teaneck Deputy Mayor Adam Gussen and Passaic County Freeholder Terry Duffy. Another, News 12 political commentator Jim McQueeny, is almost ready to formally enter the race, say Bergen party sources.
