Almost two weeks after Sandy hit New York, Chelsea is slowly coming back to life. Many galleries are having openings tonight in newly refurbished spaces, including hard-hit David Zwirner, who’s presenting a Diana Thater show.
The latest gallery to announce its reopening is Tanya Bonakdar. Following extensive repairs, it will go back to showing Olafur Eliasson latest exhibition, which opened pre-Sandy. The gallery’s full message follows:
Our sincere gratitude and appreciation goes out to the dedicated staff and team of people who have worked tirelessly to reopen the gallery. This remains a challenging time for many in the Chelsea community and beyond. Our hopes and best wishes go out to all our neighbors, friends, colleagues and all those affected by the storm. Thank you for all of your incredible support and we look forward to seeing you at the gallery soon.
Also reopening tomorrow is Andrew Kreps Gallery, which is unveiling a new Goshka Macuga show in the evening. Still without an operational heating system, Kreps has promised liquid heat at the opening reception.
