A late effort by members of the Newark City Council to try to swing the council presidency away from Councilwoman Mildred Crump sputtered when South Ward Councilman-elect John Sharpe James removed himself as an alternative.
“I support the current council president, Council President Crump,” said James, referring to At-Large Councilwoman Mildred Crump.
James’ tiebreaking vote in favor of his fellow Team Baraka member all but assures Crump the throne of power at tomorrow’s reorganization meeting.
