Frank Stella
Frank Stella (born 1936) is an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker who has played a pivotal role in the evolution of Minimalism, Post-Painterly Abstraction, and later, maximalism in the 20th and 21st centuries. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, Stella gained early recognition in the late 1950s for his "Black Paintings," a series of stark, symmetrical designs marked by evenly spaced stripes. As his career progressed, Stella's work became increasingly dynamic, introducing bold color, irregular shapes, and later, three-dimensional constructions that blurred the line between painting and sculpture. His geometric patterns and exploration of the picture plane challenged conventional notions of spatiality and representation.
