Julie Mehretu
Julie Mehretu, born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1970, is a prominent contemporary artist known for her large-scale abstract paintings that explore themes of history, culture and geopolitics. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Michigan. Mehretu's gained attention early in her career with dynamic, multi-layered compositions that incorporate architectural elements, maps and abstract forms.
