Niko Pirosmani
Niko Pirosmani, born in 1862 in the Georgian village of Mirzaani, and died in 1918, was a self-taught Georgian primitive painter. Pirosmani's works, characterized by their simplicity, directness, and depth of emotion, depicted everyday life, Georgian social scenes, animals, and nature. Largely unrecognized during his lifetime, Pirosmani lived in poverty, but his art has posthumously gained international recognition for its unique contribution to Georgian culture. Today, he is celebrated as one of Georgia's most cherished artists.
