Application Open: Leadership Program on Climate Governance and Diplomacy (Cohort XVIII)
The African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) invites applications for the Climate Governance, Diplomacy, and Negotiations Leadership Program (Cohort XVIII). This program is designed to empower African climate leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively engage in international climate change policy and foster impactful climate actions.
🔎 Introduction
Climate change remains one of the greatest threats to sustainable development, disproportionately affecting the poorest and most vulnerable populations, particularly in Africa.
Despite its significant climate vulnerabilities, Africa faces challenges in effectively participating in international climate change policy discussions. The complexity of climate diplomacy and negotiations often requires years of experience to navigate effectively.
To address this challenge, AGNES developed this leadership training program to build the capacity of African climate negotiators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to drive meaningful climate action.
🎯 Program Objectives and Outcomes
The program aims to:
- Develop skilled African climate leaders capable of engaging in international climate policy discourse.
- Strengthen negotiation skills to enhance Africa’s presence and influence in global climate change discussions.
- Support the implementation of climate actions at regional and national levels.
Participants will gain:
- Advanced knowledge of climate science, governance, and negotiations.
- Practical skills in climate finance, justice, and litigation.
- Insights into implementing climate-resilient development strategies.

- Policymakers and decision-makers involved in climate science and national/sub-national climate policies.

- Climate Finance
- Technology Development and Transfer; Gender and Climate Change
- Climate Security
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), and Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV)
