A global UNDP practice working to transform food and agricultural commodity sectors.

Sobre nosotros

Food and Agricultural Commodity Systems (FACS) are fundamental to the sustainable development of the 170 countries UNDP supports. FACS are often the largest contributor to their economies; food and nutrition is fundamental for citizen health; and FACS have a key role to play in achieving the SDGs. With the current multiple crises UNDP is supporting governments and other national actors to transition their FACS from recovery to resilience for them to become equitable, inclusive and environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable systems.

  • Nature must be at the centre of development. Food production, especially within intensive models, stands as a primary contributor to, and is simultaneously impacted by soil erosion. Healthy soils lay the foundations of agricultural development, healthy and nutritious food production, and essential ecosystem services, which are crucial to our basic survival as well as to the sustainability of our planet. On this year theme "Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage," let’s highlight the importance of accurate soil data and information in understanding soil characteristics, so we can make informed decision on sustainable soil management for food security. ➡️ Learn more about our Nature-based solutions on UNDP FACS 2030 Strategy: https://lnkd.in/d8dDQ5rN

  • Why do we need "Deep Collaboration" for resilient Food Systems? With the 2030 SDG deadline approaching, it’s clear that no single actor can transform food systems alone. Governments, civil society and the private sector must collaborate to turn the tide. The Pact for the Future arisen from the 2024 United Nations Summit of the Future highlights collaboration as essential, especially for the shift towards regenerative agriculture. Yet, the skills to collaborate effectively are often missing in a world that prioritises competition. UNDP is bridging this gap with "Deep Collaboration", a transformative approach that equips stakeholders with the tools and mindset to drive the systemic changes our food systems urgently need by placing focus, attention, time and resources into building meaningful connections in the process of shifting systems. It’s time to move beyond silos. Together, we can reshape food systems for a sustainable and equitable future. Learn more in the new UNDP explainer: https://lnkd.in/dQKU6D3N
