While Kristen Stewart’s casting as Bella was hailed as “perfect” by the Twilighters, fans weren’t jumping up and down over Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen at first – obviously, they’ve come around since then. But as production moves forward on the sequel, “New Moon,” rumors of one character’s recasting have become less speculative and more factual in recent days.
Taylor Lautner, who played Jacob in the first movie, will most likely not be returning for the sequel since producers are reportedly concerned that he doesn’t look old enough to carry the romantic weight of the film. To that I ask, then why did you cast him in the first place?
I know that a sequel wasn’t a forgone conclusion, but considering most of the cast was signed to multi-picture deals, someone obviously thought about this property as a franchise at some point.
Regardless of that, MTV is claiming that the two leading candidates to slip on the world’s worst wig are Michael Copon from “Scorpion King 2” – I know, it’s your fav – and Ben Barnes from “Prince Caspian.” Personally, I like Michael for this because he resembles Taylor and I didn’t particularly think Ben was all that great as Prince Caspian. His accent bothered me and I didn’t believe him as anything but a Pantene Pro-V spokeperson.
Obviously, I’m not nearly as passionate about the source material as some others, so weigh in “Twilight” fans – first off, what do you think of Summit’s decision to ax Taylor and who would you like to see take over the role?
