Although he didn’t win an Oscar for “The Wrestler” and isn’t a woman, Mickey Rourke seems to be suffering from the Best Actress curse that plagues the careers of most Academy Award winning women.
He followed up his heralded turn in the 2008 comeback story with a superhero bomb (“Iron Man 2” was garbage no matter what the box office said) and a series of unsuccessful dramas. A trend that won’t be changing any time soon … and Mickey knows it.
When approached by NYMag at the “Scream 4” after-party, talk turned to “13,” a new action flick co-starring 50 Cent. One that Mickey called “a really bad movie. It’s so bad it can’t get out.” After admitting he made it solely for the money, the writer asks about his other 2011 release, “Passion Play,” co-starring Megan Fox and Bill Murray.
“Terrible. Another terrible movie,” he said. “But, you know, in your career and all the movies you make, you’re going to make dozens of terrible ones.”
And when he does, you know Mickey will be the first to tell you!
