Online Therapy for Body Dysmorphia Disorder
Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) describes a condition of extreme dislike and self-hatred in regards to one’s body or parts of one’s body. BDD is accompanied by feelings of embarrassment and social anxiety and a fear of what others may think of your appearance. It is accompanied by low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.
Body Dysmorphia Disorder can be regarded as a form of OCD since there is obsessive preoccupation with self-image and the accompanying behaviors to hide the defective features.
The pathway to transform BDD or other self-esteem issues is to neutralize the underlying habitual reactive thought patterns. Mindfulness Therapy, a more holistic form of CBT, is particularly effective at helping you break free from reactive thinking and for healing the core emotions that fuel reactive compulsive thinking.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional online therapist. I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy, which is an advanced form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, and it’s very effective for helping you overcome patterns of reactive thinking that sustains emotional reactivity.
Reactive thinking is a process that maintains and amplifies emotional states such as anxiety, depression, stress, anger, and also the self-image disorders, such as low self-esteem, low self-confidence, and also, Body Dysmorphia, Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD). This is a condition that’s very common, actually – it’s estimated that almost as many as one in a hundred suffer from some form of self-0hatred, hating their body, feeling that they are ugly, feeling that people will have negative thoughts about them, feeling very uncomfortable in public. It leads to social withdrawal, social anxiety, depression, and also all kinds of compulsive behaviors: self-checking, constant mirror gazing, worrying about whether one’s freckles are getting larger, or all kinds of monitoring, excessive monitoring.
So there are many other forms of emotional problems like this that are fueled by habitual reactive thinking, and this is what we can change during Mindfulness Therapy, which I offer online via Skype. In traditional CBT, we identify the reactive thoughts, which usually operate out of our awareness, because it’s habitual, and then we try to change them by challenging their validity, their truthfulness.
In Mindfulness Therapy, we go a step further and we look at the emotional energy that is fueling the thoughts. If you can change the emotion underneath the thoughts then the thoughts drop away and become redundant by themselves; they no longer have the fuel that sustains them.
So, a lot of Mindfulness Therapy is involved in helping you access your core emotions, the emotions underneath the thoughts, and changing your relationship to these emotions so that they do not overwhelm you. When you can form a stable relationship with your emotions then you can help them change themselves. The thing that sustains the emotional reactivity is the cognitive reactivity, and that depends on not having a relationship with your emotions.
So, when you can form a relationship with your emotions, you effectively neutralize the cognitive reactivity that feeds the emotions, and this creates the right internal conditions in which the emotions can heal.
