Does Skype Therapy work?

Skype therapy for treating anxiety and depression

Skype therapy is certainly as good as conventional in-person psychotherapy or counseling and may even be better in some cases. Certainly, it is an excellent choice if you can’t leave home for one reason or another or if you suffer from agoraphobia or are limited by a driving phobia (both of which I treat online).

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I’m a professional online therapist offering therapy via Skype.

So I’m often asked “Does Skype Therapy work?” “Is Skype Therapy as effective as conventional therapy in a therapist’s office?” “Is therapy over Skype as good as psychotherapy in person?”.

And the answer is it most certainly is. What’s much more important is not whether the psychotherapy is delivered in person or online, but the style of psychotherapy and the competence of the therapist who is offering that particular style of therapy.

So there’s a vast range of approaches to psychotherapy and some are very much more effective than others. For most common psychological problems like anxiety or depression, generally I recommend what I call process-oriented therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT, and also Mindfulness Therapy or Mindfulness Meditation Therapy, which is related in some ways to CBT, but with a greater emphasis on working with emotions and the underlying structure of your experience, how you actually produce anxiety and depression, how it has triggered in the mind, how that works.

So really that’s the most important thing. It’s really important that you use some form of video format like Skype or FaceTime so you can see each other, as well.

If you can see each other as well as speak to each other in real time, then Skype Therapy becomes just as effective as in person therapy. And from my experience over the years Skype Therapy definitely has advantages. One of which is it’s more convenient and more comfortable for you, the client.

It helps you feel more in charge of the process. You feel more empowered because you are conducting the therapy session from your own home or place of work on your terms, rather than going to a clinic or therapist’s office for some kind of treatment. That tends to actually increase the sense of being helpless, being a victim. And we certainly don’t want that.

All psychotherapy should focus on enabling you and making you feel more empowered, more in charge of your emotional well-being. So that’s one advantage of Skype Therapy. It tends to do that. And that’s one of the reasons why I specialize in Skype Therapy.

Psychotherapy via Skype

Skype-based therapy for treating anxiety and depression

I see more more clients that way than in person these days. So if you’d like to learn more about Skype Therapy and its effectiveness I recommend that you do a simple Google search for “the effectiveness of Skype Therapy or online therapy” and read the articles that have been published. There’s quite a lot of research out there now showing the equal effectiveness of online therapy, especially when you are using a process-oriented form of psychotherapy like CBT or Mindfulness Therapy.

But please contact me if you have any questions so we can assess whether Skype Therapy will be effective for your particular needs. It’s certainly very effective for anxiety and depression and things like OCD and also for working with addictions. That’s another area where online therapy can become very, very useful, in the treatment of addictions, because many people are quite ashamed of their addiction. They don’t want to join a group, they would rather work with some degree of privacy and that’s offered by online therapy, of course.

So go to my website, learn more, do some research, and then if you want to schedule Skype Therapy with me, simply go to my Contact Page and email me and we can schedule a Skype Therapy session at a time that works for you.

I see people throughout North America, Western Europe, United Kingdom, Ireland, and as far away as Canada and Australia, and so on. All you need is a good internet connection and you can usually have no problem at all with with getting the appropriate level of quality of Skype to allow you to have Skype Therapy sessions.

So please go to my website and learn more about Mindfulness Therapy and then contact me. Thank you.

Skype Therapy with Dr. Peter Strong

Skype-based psychotherapy for treating anxiety and depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional psychotherapist specializing in Mindfulness Therapy, which I offer over Skype.

Skype therapy is basically nothing more than delivering psychotherapy over Skype. The reason why we use Skype is because it allows us to see each other and that is really the most important thing for psychotherapy online. You have to be able to see each other.

So basically Skype therapy describes any kind of mode of psychotherapy that is delivered via Skype, but the type of psychotherapy that I specialize in is Mindfulness Therapy, which works extremely well over Skype. This is because the focus of Skype-based Mindfulness Therapy is to teach you practical methods for working with your anxiety or depression or addiction or emotional trauma, using the well-tested and very effective methods of Mindfulness Therapy.

Online therapy via Skype for anxiety and depression.
Online therapy via Skype for anxiety and depression.

The first thing that I will teach you in the first Skype therapy session is about how to change the relationship that you have with your emotions and with your thoughts and beliefs. This is really quite important. The major cause of emotional suffering, whether that is anxiety or depression or addiction, is the process called “reactive identification,” whereby you become blindly attached and identified with the mind, with thoughts, beliefs, emotional reactions, memories, perceptions, and so on.

Now all of those mental phenomena are technically described as mental objects, and they arise in the mind, they exist for a while and then they pass away. That’s the normal scheme of things. The problem is that we tend to become identified with these mental objects and that stops them from resolving in the normal cycle so that keeps them in the mind and stops them resolving.

So the first teaching in Mindfulness Therapy is about learning how to break this blind habit of identification with thoughts emotions, memories and perceptions, and the way we do this is by meditating on these mantle objects.

We learn to pull ourselves out of the identification habit whereby we become consumed by the emotional reactions or thoughts and we learn to see them as an OBSERVER. That Observer is, by definition, independent from the mental objects that it observes. So becoming the Observer is rather like becoming the audience that watches a movie instead of becoming part of the movie.

Become the Observer

So developing that relationship as the Observer is one of the primary teachings in Mindfulness Therapy. That’s really important because if you identify with thoughts and emotional reactions then what that does is that it feeds those emotional formations and it tends to cause them to proliferate and to not resolve.

So learning to see them clearly, learning to sit with your emotions without becoming reactive that is the most productive thing that you can do to promote healing.

When you can create the space around an emotion or thought or memory, if it’s a traumatic memory, without reacting, you no longer feed that emotional formation and then it continues its natural life cycle, which ends up in its resolution and healing. So by sitting in a non-reactive manner in a mindful manner with our thoughts and emotions, we allow them to heal. That’s a very important principle.

Respond with compassion

The second principle is that we can respond when we are not reacting to those emotions and help them heal. We can facilitate the healing process. And this is called the “response of compassion,” which is an integral part of mindfulness practice.

Mindfulness is much more than just becoming aware of experiences in the mind. It is about responding to those experiences in the mind with compassion and with friendliness and with those factors that promote healing.

Of course, when we encounter unpleasant emotions like fear and anger and shame or guilt or depression, we tend to fall into this trap of reacting with aversion. We push those unpleasant feelings away. This reactivity does nothing else than to feed the emotions and prevents them from healing. So that’s one of the primary reasons why we focus on developing a compassionate and friendly relationship with our emotions, because quite simply, they will not heal until you do that.

So after forming a non-reactive and friendly relationship with your anxiety or depression or with your guilt or shame or low self-esteem or anger or whatever it might be, when you can sit with that without reacting then you begin to explore what helps it change. And the primary mechanism through which emotions change is through changing their imagery.

Work on changing the emotional imagery to promote healing

So all emotions are based around imagery and it’s when we can see this imagery and then help that imagery change that we can help the emotion heal. So working with imagery is another vital components of Mindfulness Therapy.

I will teach you all of these methods. I will teach you how to work with your emotions using mindfulness and I will teach you how to meditate on your emotions using Mindfulness. Meditation meditation is a very powerful method for developing these inner healing pathways based on conscious awareness, friendliness, compassion and non-reactive.

Mindfulness meditation is about meditating on the mind

Mindfulness meditation is not about trying to escape thoughts. It’s not about trying to create an altered state of consciousness that feels good. That’s not the purpose of mindfulness meditation. The purpose of mindfulness meditation is to meditate on the mind. It’s literally to develop a greater conscious presence with those mental objects whatever they are, including perceptions. So to be more mindful of eating your dinner is becoming more mindful of the mental perceptions that arise as you are eating your dinner.

So when we apply mindfulness we are learning how to break free from the habits that sustain suffering and prevent its healing. And that’s why it’s so powerful.

So if you like the idea of Skype therapy and you like the idea of Mindfulness Therapy, then please reach out to me by email. Let us schedule Skype therapy session. I see people worldwide. Most of my clients live in America but I also see clients in Western Europe and as far away as South Korea and Australia.

The importance of using Skype for Online Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy through Skype is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to in-person psychotherapy partly due to the greater convenience and comfort of being able to conduct your therapy sessions from home or work, but also because more and more people are interested in self-help and taking charge of their own well-being by learning how to better manage anxiety, depression and other forms of emotional suffering without resorting to medications.

Sometimes medical treatment may be necessary for restoring your mental health, but that is seldom the case for most people who are simply struggling with the challenges of how to manage anxiety, depression, painful emotions and intrusive thoughts.

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional psychotherapist and I offer Skype Therapy sessions for the treatment of anxiety and depression, for addictions, for OCD and intrusive thoughts and for help with recovery from traumatic memories and PTSD through the application of Mindfulness Therapy.

I also offer online mindfulness therapy for help with recovery from addiction, where we focus on healing the underlying emotional wounds that are the primary cause of addiction.

Skype is important for effective online therapy

The main advantages of Skype Therapy is that it allows you to see each other, and that is really important for high quality communication, which is obviously necessary for good psychotherapy. But as long as you can see each other, then there’s really no difference in the effectiveness of Skype Therapy when compared to meeting physically with a therapist in an office. You don’t need to be physically present, but you do need to see each other. So that’s why I offer therapy over Skype.

Psychotherapy delivered over Skype works extremely well, especially when you’re interested in learning how to work with your emotions more effectively for yourself. This is a very good medium for learning good psychological techniques such as mindfulness-based methods for working with your emotions and promoting emotional wellbeing and general mental health.

Learn how to apply mindfulness for healing anxiety and depression

So during the Skype Therapy sessions, I’ll be teaching you how to work with your emotions using mindfulness. Mindfulness simply describes a quality of conscious awareness in which you are able to be completely present with experience without reacting to that experience.

So mindfulness is not thinking about emotions. It’s just being completely open to experience those emotions fully without getting lost in reactive thinking or judgmental thinking or further emotional reactivity. So this quality of being totally present is called “objective consciousness.” It’s where you are able to remain as the observer, observing the emotions, thoughts, memories and other content as objects in the mind.

So we see these objects as the observer, but we don’t become those objects. We learn to see anxiety without becoming anxious, we learn to see depression without becoming depressed, we learn to see a traumatic memory without becoming traumatized. It takes training, which is the whole purpose of Mindfulness Therapy, but the benefits of developing this non-reactive objective consciousness are well worth the time and effort.

We learn to see thoughts without becoming caught up in thoughts and thinking. And we don’t get caught up in emotions and emotional reactivity. We’re just able to observe the emotions very clearly.

This is extremely important because one of the major factors that reinforces anxiety and depression and also emotional trauma is reactivity. When we react to those emotions, it has the effect of reinforcing those emotions and it prevents them healing, as well.

I will teach you how to overcome habitual reactive thinking

So one of the most common forms of reactivity is reactive thinking, rumination, uncontrolled worry-based thinking, self criticism, self judgement, even and trying to understand our emotions. These are all forms of cognitive reactivity that really take you away from being totally present consciously, mindfully, with your emotions. And anything that takes you away from being completely present with your emotions inhibits healing and prolongs suffering.

So in Mindfulness Therapy, we train ourselves to be totally present with our emotions, because this is what leads to lasting change and lasting recovery and lasting healing.

We also watch very closely for those reactive thoughts that feed the anxiety or depression and we learn to see those thoughts as objects in the same way as we see the emotions as objects in the mind. We learn to see them and not become caught up in that blind reactive thinking.

So when you break free from the habit of reactive thinking, you take the fuel away from the underlying emotions, and that allows those emotions to continue their natural process of healing. When you stop reacting and suppressing your emotions, you restore the healing force of consciousness away. So being present mindfully is the most important thing we can do to promote healing.

The way we train with our emotions to facilitate this consciousness-based healing is by learning to meditate on those emotions. So we’re using mindfulness meditation to cultivate conscious awareness and to be totally present with our emotions and thoughts and memories, without becoming reactive so maintaining that objective consciousness that is required for healing.

Inner compassion is vital for healing

There are other aspects of Mindfulness Therapy, that we can develop to accelerate this healing process, one of which is the development of compassion. The more you can develop compassion towards your emotions, your emotional wounds, your anxiety or depression, your emotional trauma, the faster they heal.

So compassion is very powerful. And one of the reasons why it’s so powerful is because it increases conscious awareness. You have to be very consciously present to be compassionate. If you are cultivating compassion, you are by definition also cultivating that conscious presence, that objective consciousness.

There are other things that we look at as well when we are meditating on our emotions, and one of the things we look at very closely, besides the reactive thoughts that feeds the anxiety or depression is the imagery of the emotion.

Working with emotional imagery is essential for recovery

We understand in mindfulness psychology that all emotions are based around imagery. That imagery provides a structure for the emotion, whether it is anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, shame or fear. We look for the properties of that imagery. And when we learn more about the imagery, we’re able to then experiment with changing the imagery. Because when an emotion heals, it does so by changing its imagery. The imagery of the emotion has to change in order for the emotion to heal.

So common image properties we look for are the size of the image, the position of the image. How close is it? Do we see it in the body? Do we feel its presence in the heart area or the throat or the stomach or the head? Where do we actually see it? What is the color of the imagery? Is it hard or is it soft? Is it hot or cold? There are lots of different properties like this that we can investigate and that we can then experiment with changing, because when you change that imagery, you will be changing the emotion.

And this is how we can speed up the process of healing. So working with imagery in a very mindful way, which means doing so in a non-judgmental way, skillfully paying attention to what feels right, will accelerate the rate of healing considerably.

The process of developing that internal conscious relationship between your True Self, the observer, and the emotion that you’re meditating on will also have a profound effect on promoting healing. Very often emotions become isolated, disconnected from your True Self, and in that isolated states, they become frozen, they are unable to change. So by cultivating and re-establishing a strong internal, conscious, compassionate relationship with your emotional wounds, that has the effect of true of greatly increasing the rate of healing.

Reactivity tends to break that inner connection. Non reactivity, mindfulness provides us with a way of re-establishing that connection. That internal connection with your emotional wounds is a very important part for promoting healing and well-being.

What is Skype Therapy?

Skype Therapy is defined as any kind of psychotherapy delivered via Skype or similar online video platform. We use Skype so that we can see each other, which is essential for good communication and, therefore, good psychotherapy.

What kind of psychotherapy works best over Skype?

Most forms of talk therapy work when delivered via Skype. Some of the more popular approaches will involve some form of CBT. I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy, a system of psychotherapy that I developed in the 1990s that incorporates mindfulness training and mindfulness meditation (vipassana) for working with mental suffering, including anxiety, depression, addiction, emotional trauma (PTSD), guilt and anger. The goal of mindfulness therapy is the resolution and healing of mental suffering and the cultivation of well-being, happiness and freedom.

Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy via Skype

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I’m a professional online therapist specializing in therapy over Skype. I offer Skype therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression and for work with addiction recovery. And also, I work a great deal with agoraphobia and other anxiety disorders that benefit from online therapy.

Therapy over Skype allows you to see each other

So, if you’re considering online therapy, then it’s very important that you understand that you need to use Skype or other video platform like Face Time or Zoom so that you can see each other. This is really important. When you can see each other in real time, then there’s really no difference in the effectiveness of online Skype therapy compared to meeting a therapist in person.

It’s not necessary to be in the same room, but it is very necessary that you can see each other that improves the communication of your therapy sessions and that will basically make your experience much more effective in getting the help that you need to overcome your anxiety or depression.

So, if you’re interested in therapy over Skype with me, then do please go to my website and learn more about the Skype therapy service that I offer. All you need for Skype therapy is a good Internet connection and a quiet place to conduct your sessions and then you can start therapy with me.

Online Therapy over Skype is more convenient for you

Most people really enjoy the convenience offered by being able to have therapy sessions at home rather than traveling to a therapist’s office. In the case of agoraphobia and driving anxiety and many other anxiety disorders, it’s really essential that you can work online with a therapist.

Lots of people also like the greater privacy offered by online therapy. It means that you don’t have to go to an office and wait in a waiting room with other people. It’s much less intimidating as well. So this greater sense of anonymity is another feature that many people really like, and this can be very important if you’re dealing with depression or addiction. People often are embarrassed and they don’t want to just talk about their condition to a total stranger. So being able to talk to a therapist like myself online often overcomes that barrier.

Therapy through Skype offers greater choice for you

My objective has always been to make psychotherapy much more available. And that’s why I offer online therapy via Skype. Also, I specialize in mindfulness therapy, which is quite a unique approach that is not readily available. So many people come to me for help because they specifically have expressed an interest in mindfulness therapy, in how to apply mindfulness and other aspects of Buddhist psychotherapy in order to work with their emotions.

Many people are really interested in mindfulness and they’re looking for a way of working with their mind without having to use medications or without using a treatment-based approach.

In Mindfulness Therapy via Skype we take a much more positive approach to healing

In mindfulness therapy, we don’t see anxiety and depression as illnesses or even as disorders. We see them basically as simply a series of habits that have become established in the subconscious. They are conditioned reactions that operate outside of our control and that negatively affect our mental health.

Habits can be changed when you bring conscious awareness to them and you start to work with them using mindfulness. And this is what people find who work with me. Most of my students have been on medications and had their anxiety disorder diagnosed and labeled as a psychological disorder. But that sort of treatment approach just doesn’t really seem to work for most.

Things change dramatically when you start to look at your anxiety and depression as a series of habits that are currently out of your control. But once you start to develop mindfulness around these habits you bring them back into the sphere of your control and you can start to help change those habits.

Mindfulness Therapy is about developing your True Self

So that’s one of the features of mindfulness therapy. We also recognize that underneath those habits is what we typically call your True Self, your true identity, which is not the contents of your mind, it’s not those habits, it’s not your thoughts, it’s not your beliefs, it’s not your emotions.

Your True Self is not the contents of your mind. It is actually the conscious awareness itself that is able to be aware of any content that arises in the mind. So that conscious awareness is not made of thoughts or emotions. It is made of pure conscious awareness itself, and that is referred to as your True Self and the system that I have developed and that I teach.

So one of the characteristics of your true self, that’s worth pointing out here, is that your true self does not suffer. Your true self, actually, is that part of your being that naturally moves towards joy and well-being and health. Its natural state is one of non-suffering, of happiness in all its different forms. This is primarily because it is not limited by conditioning.

Mindfulness training is about learning how to reconnect

So habits are conditioned reactions and they limit your ability to live fully and to enjoy life completely because they narrow your perception and they also disconnect you from reality, from experience. They have this effect of insulating you from life and that disconnection is associated with suffering and unhappiness.

Mindfulness is about learning how to reconnect with every moment of your living experience internally and externally. And this essentially brings us alive. It creates a sense of tremendous energy and well-being. The more that we connect with our experiences, the happier we become. It is the disconnection from experience, including painful emotions, it is the disconnection that is the problem that leads to suffering.

So, there’s lots to learn about mindfulness therapy, and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have. If you’d like to go ahead and schedule a Skype therapy session with me, then simply go to my contact age and send me an email.

Tell me about yourself and what you’ve tried so far and also what times and days work for you and then we can start looking at scheduling some of these Skype therapy sessions, and I’ll help you overcome your anxiety or depression or other form of emotional suffering using the techniques of mindfulness therapy.

How does Skype Therapy work?

So how does Skype Therapy work? Well, the primary thing that we focus on during the Skype Therapy session that I offer is learning how to work with our emotions using mindfulness. So mindfulness provides a very effective way of developing a conscious and non-reactive relationship with your emotions. And this is essential because if you react, then that has the effect of suppressing those emotions and it prevents them from healing. And in fact, any kind of reactivity will have the effect of reinforcing the underlying emotions.

So reactivity reinforces those emotions and prevents them from healing. And typically, the reactivity triggers further reactivity that we call secondary reactivity. And this is well demonstrated in the example of rumination where we get lost in runaway thinking, catastrophic thinking, negative thinking and anxiety-based thinking or chronic or worrying.

All of this cognitive reactivity further reinforces the underlying anxiety or depression and prevents the underlying emotions from healing because the reactivity essentially takes conscious awareness away from the original emotion, the anxiety, the depression, the inner emotional pain. The reactivity takes conscious awareness away from it and without conscious awareness, emotional suffering cannot heal itself.

So this effect is called reactive displacement. Reactivity takes consciousness away from the underlying pain. And this prevents healing as well as increasing suffering.

So, in our approach using mindfulness, we learn to develop this very direct conscious awareness, to bring conscious awareness back to our emotions to promote healing and to prevent reinforcing the emotional suffering. Conscious awareness or mindfulness provides the right conditions that allow healing to happen.

The best way to do this, from my investigations and research over the years is by learning how to meditate on your emotions. Because meditation, when it’s taught correctly, is about developing this conscious awareness of your experience, this direct awareness that’s not reactive, that is completely present with your experience. In this case, you’re learning to be completely present with your emotional pain. So we learn how to meditate on our emotions.

We do this by playing through a memory or a scene that triggered those emotions, that anxiety or depression or emotional trauma. We we must replay that trigger so that we can get access to the emotion. But then instead of just indulging in the emotion, becoming identified with it and getting lost in that reactivity that makes it worse, we now focus on developing this conscious awareness, this mindfulness, which really means being able to sit with the emotional pain in silence and to be totally present without reactivity.

So this is very important because it trains you to overcome those reactive habits that feed the emotional suffering and prevent it from healing, by actually training to sit with the emotion, looking for any reactivity that takes you away from the emotion. And seeing that clearly allows you to return to the emotion and so strengthen this direct, conscious presence. And that is what allows healing to happen. The more conscious you are, the more healing happens. The more mindful you are, the more healing happens.

So this is why Mindfulness Therapy is so effective. And this is what I teach over Skype. The teaching focuses on learning how to work with your emotions to develop more direct non-reactive conscious awareness around them and in which you break free from the habit of reactivity that feeds the emotion and prevents it from healing.

If you can hold an emotion in the stillness of your conscious, mindful presence, it will heal.

A good analogy for you to consider here is to look at the emotional pain, the anxiety, the depression, the trauma as being like a fire. A fire, by its very nature is trying to burn itself out. That’s its destiny. There are no exceptions. The fire will always try to burn itself out. What stops it burning itself out is when you keep adding more fuel to that fire. So the fire requires that fuel source to keep burning. But its nature is to burn itself out, to extinguish itself.

Your emotional suffering is just the same. Your emotional wounds are just the same. They are trying to heal. They are trying to burn themselves out, but our blind habitual conditioned reactivity prevents that from happening. It prevents healing.

So this is a short introduction to what I’ll be teaching you during our Skype Therapy sessions together, if you choose to work with me. This training in developing more direct conscious awareness or mindfulness around your emotions is immensely effective. It’s the most effective way that I have discovered for overcoming chronic anxiety, chronic depression and also for healing emotional trauma.

Mindfulness Therapy is usually much more effective than just talking about your feelings or your family history, as is frequently the case in traditional counseling sessions. Talking about your emotions is NOT the same as sitting consciously with them with mindfulness. In fact, just talking about your emotions can be seen as just another form of reactivity that takes consciousness away from them and delays healing.

The more you can stay present consciously, mindfully, with painful emotions such as anxiety and depression, the faster the healing.

So to please contact me if you would like to learn more about how to apply mindfulness and mindfulness meditation for promoting healing and well-being. Thank you.

Online Skype Therapy for the treatment of anxiety & depression using mindfulness

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional psychotherapist specializing in Mindfulness Therapy and I offer online Skype Therapy for the treatment of anxiety and online Skype Therapy for help with depression and many other common psychological problems that do not require medication.

Most of my clients have tried medications for their anxiety or depression or OCD or other emotional problems without much success. And there’s a reason for this, because medications do nothing to change the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression. The underlying cause is primarily psychological in nature.

Even if there is a chemical imbalance in the body, that chemical imbalance is nothing more than a trigger that triggers the psychological reaction. If there is any underlying biochemical or physiological problems then you should consult with your doctor, but generally this is quite rare and most of my clients come to me after trying medication and they simply want something better, that actually addresses the problem rather than just covering up the symptoms. And that’s what I offer during online Skype Therapy.

I teach mindfulness-based methods for working with emotional suffering such as anxiety or depression or intrusive thoughts or addictions or many other difficult psychological problems that we all face at one time or another.

It’s really learning how to work with these emotional habits and how to start developing a conscious and mindful relationship with your emotions and with your thoughts and also with your memories, including traumatic memories, too. I offer online Skype Therapy for PTSD as well as for anxiety and depression.

The most important thing is building a conscious and mindful relationship with your mind. Most of the time we don’t do that, we simply run away from our emotional pain or we react by becoming identified with our emotional pain, which simply feeds it, or we react with aversion to our emotional pain, which also prevents it healing. It is only when you can establish full conscious presence with your emotional pain free from reactivity that healing and recovery can occur. Actually, establishing that internal relationship based on conscious acceptance and compassion greatly accelerates recovery.

The only way that the psychological habit that creates anxiety or depression can heal is when we create a friendly and conscious relationship with our emotions and thoughts. And this is the principle focus of Mindfulness Therapy, and I will teach you how to apply mindfulness for working with your emotions.

This approach is very effective, in deed. And I’ve been teaching Mindfulness Therapy for over ten years now and the number of people who have benefited from this approach is quite surprising and very satisfying for me.

Because once you learn how to apply mindfulness you become able to manage your emotions much more effectively than you could ever learn by a treatment-based approach, like medications, which only relieve symptoms for a short while and do nothing to transform the underlying psychological process that is causing your emotional suffering. You have to heal things at that deeper level if you want to be free from anxiety or depression; nothing else will do.

So, if you’d like to learn more about online Skype Therapy and you’d like to schedule Skype Therapy sessions with me, then please go to my website, learn more about this approach, and then of course e-mail me if you have any questions.

Skype Therapy for Managing Anxiety & Depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a mindfulness-based therapist, living in Boulder, Colorado, and I provide Skype Therapy.

Therapy via Skype is a very convenient and very effective way of getting the help that you need to overcome anxiety or depression or addiction or any other emotional suffering that you may be experiencing.

Emotional suffering is a psychological process and anxiety and depression are produced primarily by psychological habits, not chemical imbalances in the brain. Changes in neurotransmitters may accompany a mood disorder, but those changes are produced by the psychological condition; not the other way around. Medications have their place, but if you really want to recover from anxiety or depression then you better focus on changing those psychological habits rather than just managing symptoms.

The mindfulness techniques that I teach during these online therapy sessions are very well designed to help you break free from the habit of emotional reactivity, that process by which you become identified with and overwhelmed by emotional reactions and reactive thinking.

Become the Observer is key to inner healing

When we develop mindfulness skills we are actually learning how to become an observer, how to witness thoughts and emotions without becoming identified with them, without becoming reactive and without becoming overwhelmed by those habitual patterns.

This is the essential fist step in any kind of transformation process, you have to learn to see what is there without reacting to it. This is what we call awakening. You learn to awaken to the contents of mind instead of reacting to the contents of mind.

When you can see emotions and thoughts and the habitual processes that produce those emotions and thoughts clearly, when you can see them clearly, then choice arises. You begin to develop a sense of not being the same as your mind, not being the same as the content of your mind, but actually being the witness, the observer, and that observer is separate from the contents of mind, and can therefore begin to develop choice based on wisdom, based on what feels better and what leads to healing and well-being.

If you would like to learn more about Skype therapy and the mindfulness approach that I specialize in, please go to my website and then CONTACT ME via email, and I will be happy to answer your questions about therapy via Skype and we can schedule a session at a time that works for you.

I see clients throughout North America, I see clients in South America, I of course see many clients in the UK and Europe, and further afield as well. As long as you have an internet connection then it is possible to have Skype therapy.

Skype Therapy for Help with Anxiety and Depression

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I provide online therapy via Skype.

Skype Therapy is a very good choice if you want to get help for overcoming anxiety and depression or if you want help for the recovery from addiction, or of course, if you are looking for online therapy for agoraphobia or other anxiety disorder.

Online therapy is an excellent choice if you don’t have access to a therapist locally or if you’re living abroad or if you just find it difficult to leave home for any reason, such as if you’re suffering from agoraphobia or if you’re taking care of children or any other reason that keeps you homebound.

People like the convenience of online therapy and also, it’s much more comfortable for most people than seeing a therapist in-person. It’s a much more relaxed format and I believe that’s very important because it makes it much easier for you to get in touch with your emotions and to do the work that’s necessary to help heal anxiety and depression. You need to feel comfortable.

Another reason why people like online therapy is because it offers a greater sense of privacy, greater anonymity and that’s an important factor, especially if you’re struggling with depression or addiction or difficult emotions that often are difficult to talk about. So having that interface of your laptop makes it a little more comfortable and less intimidating, it makes you feel more relaxed.

The style of therapy that I offer via Skype is called Mindfulness Therapy and that’s a very good way of working with anxiety and depression in particular. It really focuses on changing the underlying structure of reactive, habitual thinking that feeds anxiety and depression.

So it’s very important to overcome reactivity because reactivity is the primary problem that prevents healing, that prevents recovery from anxiety or depression or emotional trauma. It is the reactivity that keeps the cycle of suffering going indefinitely.

So Mindfulness Therapy focuses on these habitual reactive patterns that feeds your suffering and it helps you change those habits, because anxiety and depression are basically the product of conditioned habits.

It’s better to look at it that way than to think of them as some sort of medical disorder. It is very rare that anxiety or depression are due to purely physical causes. You will know the difference if it is, and then of course you should go and consult with your doctor. But most people are simply stuck in these patterns of habitual reactivity that stop the anxiety or depression from healing.

So that’s the focus of Mindfulness Therapy. It’s about overcoming these patterns, and I will teach you how to do this during our sessions together. I will teach you how to apply mindfulness to overcome those patterns of habitual here to thinking.

Most people see benefits very quickly when you start applying these mindfulness techniques that I’ll be teaching you during the sessions together.

So please contact me if you want to learn more about Mindfulness Therapy via Skype.

So Skype is very important for online therapy because it allows you to see each other. And this is essential for good psychotherapy. It is not necessary to be in the same room to be physically present with a therapist, but it is necessary that you see each other. That will allow the right quality and depth of communication that are really necessary for working with of anxiety and depression.

So, if you would like to learn more about Skype Therapy using mindfulness, then please simply contact me and tell me more about yourself, what you’ve tried so far. And also tell me what days and times work for you so that we can then go ahead and schedule your first Skype Therapy session.

Mindfulness Therapy, when delivered over Skype is very effective and I really expect all of my clients to see substantial improvements within the first three to four sessions.

It shouldn’t take long to really get on top of anxiety and depression. It’s really about changing the quality of relationship that you have with your emotions. You have to break free from that blind habitual reactivity so that you can establish a fully conscious and present relationship with your emotions that’s based on compassion and forces that heal, rather than reactivity, which simply inhibits healing and recovery.

So if you’d like to learn more and you are seriously interested in getting to the root of your anxiety or depression and making really long lasting changes, then please contact me.

Online Therapy through Skype using mindfulness

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I provide Skype Therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression and other emotional problems, also including help with recovery from addiction.

So Skype Therapy is a very good choice if you’re looking for an alternative to working with a therapist in person. Sometimes it’s just not possible to find a therapist in your local area, or you may be living abroad and don’t have access to therapists. Very often, I work with people who suffer from agoraphobia or have a driving anxiety and are unable to travel to see a therapist in their office.

So there are many reasons for choosing Skype Therapy. Many people like Skype Therapy because it’s more comfortable. It’s certainly a lot a lot more convenient since you can conduct your sessions at home or at your place of work without having to travel to an office. And many people like it because it’s just a lot less clinical in nature.

So the approach that I take is called Mindfulness Therapy, which is really about giving you the tools for working with your emotions, giving you mindfulness methods, for working with anxiety and depression to heal the internal process that is causing your anxiety or depression.

So this is quite different than conventional counseling, where you just talk about your feelings and spend a lot of time analyzing your feelings and your family history and so on. In my opinion, that’s not a very good approach because it doesn’t really address the underlying cause, the mechanism that is causing your emotional suffering, and the same goes for medications.

Medications may make you feel better for a while, but they don’t really change anything psychologically at the core level, so the moment you come off those medications or that they lose their effectiveness because your body gets used to them, then eventually you are back where you started from with the same amount of anxiety or depression.

Sometimes medications can make things worse because you’re really avoiding the underlying cause and so that is it not addressed and it simply gets worse over time. It’s much better if you put your efforts into looking at the mechanism that produces your emotional suffering. You have to look at how that works and then help change the process and heal the wounds that are not healing properly.

So the real issue here is to look at your anxiety or depression directly and see what is happening in the mind. For example, to look at the array of habitual reactive thinking and beliefs that surround your anxiety or depression. The real issue is actually not the thoughts or beliefs, it’s the fact that we become blandly identified with those thoughts and beliefs. This blind identification is what gives power to thoughts. So that’s an example of cognitive reactivity.

We can also discover how we feel about our anxiety or depression, and often you’ll find layers of emotional reactivity towards your anxiety or depression. There’s often layers of emotional reactivity within to depression or anxiety. It’s actually a constellation of other emotions that we don’t usually see.

So the real problem is reactive identification, which ignites more suffering and prevents us seeing the deeper structure of your anxiety or depression.

So in Mindfulness Therapy, we spend very little time talking about our emotions and a great deal of time looking at them directly through the process of mindfulness meditation, where we hold that emotion in our mind and observe it, meditate on it and develop that non-reactive relationship that allows us to see clearer what is going on in the mind, to look at those patterns of reactive thinking and emotional reactivity and also behavioral reactivity, the ways that we try to distract ourselves or avoid the emotions that need healing.

There’s lots of different layers to Mindfulness Therapy, but the primary message here to understand is that the way to facilitate healing is to establish a direct, conscious relationship with your emotions. So in Mindfulness Therapy, we do this by meditating on our emotions.

When you see those reactive thoughts, they are no longer able to operate blindly. The very act of bringing them into consciousness takes away their power. You are now training with your emotions and with those reactive thoughts in a way that frees you from those inner psychological habits, which is the real cause of your anxiety or depression.

It is what is actually happening in the mind that you have to look at and change. And the best way to change it is by making a conscious.

There are other things that we can do to increase healing, such as developing inner compassion. So instead of reacting emotionally to your fear or sad feelings or guilt, shame or whatever emotion it might be, instead of reacting to it we respond to it with compassion. So this is a way of bringing more consciousness to that emotion to help it heal. That stops feeding the underlying emotional pain and instead, it promotes healing.

So inner compassion is a very, very powerful force that we develop during mindfulness therapy when we are learning to meditate on our emotions. The purpose of meditating on our emotions is to develop this inner compassion and to see more that needs to change.

So there’s lots of different ways we go about doing this. But that’s just a brief introduction to what I teach during Skype Therapy sessions.

This approach is very effective. Most people see substantial improvements within a matter of a couple of weeks when you learn how to do this yourself between sessions, how to meditate on your emotions to develop more conscious awareness of those blind habits and then to develop inner compassion that facilitates healing. You’ll see improvements very quickly.

So if you would like to learn more about this process of doing therapy through Skype and using mindfulness to heal anxiety and depression, then please contact me and we can schedule a Skype therapy session. Thank you.

CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ONLINE THERAPY VIA SKYPE

Skype Therapy is a more convenient and effective choice for you

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional mindfulness-based psychotherapist based in Colorado, and I offer Skype Therapy for help with anxiety, including agoraphobia and also for help recovering from depression and addictions as well.

There are many advantages to seeing a therapist via Skype, one of which is convenience. It’s much more easy to schedule your sessions to fit your schedule, and you don’t have to take out so much time to commute to a to see a therapist in an office.

I get lots of requests for online therapy from people suffering from agoraphobia and also from people who have a fear of driving. In both cases, online therapy is a good choice.

So there are lots of advantages like that. Many people prefer online therapy in general because it gives the greatest sense of being in control. And that’s really important. In the Skype Therapy that I offer, we’re really about exploring how to help you learn ways of working with your emotions more effectively using the techniques of Mindfulness Therapy.

So I specialize in mindfulness therapy because it’s the most effective approach that I know for working with the root cause of anxiety and depression. We need to learn how to change the relationship that we have with our emotions. This is critical.

Most of the time we react with aversion and avoidance, trying to get away from unpleasant feelings. We end up suppressing those unpleasant emotions. Now this is a real problem because it stops them healing. Consciousness is required for emotions to heal fully. Without it, they don’t heal and they become stuck in the mind and a source of future emotional pain.

So we need to learn how to develop more consciousness or mindfulness in relationship to our emotions. We need to develop more consciousness internally to see the patterns of reactive thinking that feeds our anxiety or depression. We need to take care of our emotional wounds if we want them to heal, and the first step to healing and recovery is to bring those emotions into full conscious awareness.

Reactive thinking is a real problem and it becomes habitual when we don’t see it, when we don’t have any choice, when we feel overpowered by those reactive thoughts that produce anxiety or depression.

So learning to see them clearly brings choice with it. That is a function of consciousness. You can start to break free from the blind subconscious quality of reactive thinking.

We start to turn thoughts and emotions into objects that we can develop a relationship with. And when we are free from reactivity, which inhibits healing, we can then start to develop a relationship based on compassion, which is very powerful for promoting well-being and healing and recovery.

So we need to develop compassion towards our own emotional pain, that is critical. So this is part of what I’ll be teaching you during our Skype Therapy sessions together.

Skype Therapy is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an alternative to medications. Medications have their place, but they don’t really change anything at the deeper level, so you still remain vulnerable to the same habitual mechanisms that create your anxiety or depression. In Mindfulness Therapy, we focus on changing those mechanisms directly.

So if you’d like to learn more about Mindfulness Therapy via Skype and you’d like to schedule some Skype Therapy sessions with me, do please contact me. Tell me more about yourself and what you’ve tried so far and I’ll explain to you how to work with your emotions using mindfulness.

Skype is really useful for psychotherapy when it’s delivered online because Skype allows you to see each other, and that is critical for good communication. So if you can see each other, then Skype Therapy is really no different than meeting a therapist in person.

So if you would like to try out some Skype Therapy with me and learn how to apply mindfulness to work with your anxiety or depression or addiction or any other emotion that is causing you suffering, then please reach out to me through my website and let’s schedule a Skype Therapy session. Psychotherapy by Skype for help with anxiety and depression

Psychotherapy through Skype is just as good as therapy in-person because you can see each other. This is the most important aspect required for good quality psychotherapy, but you don’t have to be in the same room for that to happen. What I find is that most people actually prefer the greater privacy and comfort offered by Skype therapy and that is why it is becoming so popular, and may be the norm in a few years.

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional online psychotherapist and I provide psychotherapy via Skype. So if you’re looking for Skype psychotherapy online, I do encourage you to read more of the pages on my website. Watch some of the videos about Skype Therapy and reach out to me if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule Skype Therapy with me.

Skype Therapy is an excellent opportunity to get quality help to overcome anxiety and depression, but without having to go to see a therapist and in an office. Many people really prefer the convenience of online therapy and also the greater privacy and anonymity that is offered by online therapy. This is very important if you’re dealing with difficult emotional problems like depression or addiction.

If you are suffering from agoraphobia, then it becomes essential to look for an online therapist to help you overcome your agoraphobia. I see a surprising number of people with driving anxiety with a phobia of driving, which of course greatly limits them and makes it very difficult to to go and see a therapist for treatment for driving anxiety.

There are lots of reasons why people like online therapy, but perhaps the most important thing is that it feels more comfortable for you. It’s really important that you feel comfortable and are able to do the detailed and very personal work needed to bring about the healing of your anxiety or depression or other emotional problems.

So that’s really the focus of Mindfulness Therapy, which is what I teach on Skype. Mindfulness Therapy teaches you how to totally change the relationship that you have with your emotions, to really change the relationship from one that is reactive and simply feeds the anxiety or depression, to a relationship that’s based on consciousness and compassion, the two primary elements of mindfulness.

So when you can change that internal psychological relationship to one that allows you to be present with your anxiety or depression or other emotions and not react to them, then you create the ideal conditions for healing.

In fact, if you can stay totally present, totally mindful with your emotional pain, then those emotions will heal by themselves as a direct result of that quality of conscious, mindful presence, if it is based on the qualities of consciousness and compassion.

So one analogy that I often use to help explain this transformational effect of mindfulness is to look at anxiety or depression or even emotional trauma as being like a fire. Now, what keeps a fire alive? It’s when you feed it with more fuel. It depends on that fuel to keep burning. But when you take the fuel away from a fire, then what happens to it? It extinguishes itself. It goes on a path of burning itself out quite naturally. So you could say that the fire is destined to heal itself, it is destined to resolve itself, to extinguish itself. What keeps the fire alive are those processes whereby fuel is piled onto that fire.

Well emotions are the same way, they are like that fire. When you stop feeding them through blind, habitual, reactive thinking and reactivity based on avoidance and hatred for those emotions, when you stop doing that, the emotions also resume the path of healing. That path of healing is already built into the anxiety and depression.

It is trying to heal but what stops it healing is reactivity, blind habitual reactivity. The way that we get lost and reactive thinking, the way that we get completely identified and therefore overwhelmed by the emotion. So that’s what we call reactive identification.

So whatever the identification is, whatever the reactivity is, it ends up feeding that emotion and stops it healing. But if you take away the reactivity, the emotion will resume its natural path of healing.

Another analogy to think of here is to look at the emotional suffering as being like a wound. Again, a wound naturally heals itself if it is allowed to do so. Those mechanisms of healing are a natural part of the body.

It is the same for the mind. Emotional wounds will heal if we stop reacting to them. We look at them like an emotional wound. That wound is already destined to heal itself once we stop reacting.

So the key principle behind Mindfulness Therapy is to learn how to stay present and develop this conscious, compassionate presence that is not reactive, that does not feed the anxiety or depression. The more you cultivate that, the faster the healing.

Then you can start to develop internal compassion on top of that and start to interact with your emotions in a way that helps them heal. You learn how to comfort your inner fear, your inner hurt. That will accelerate healing even more. So that’s the response of compassion, which is very much a part of Mindfulness Therapy.

We learn how to respond compassionately to our own emotional wounds.

So if you’d like to learn more about this approach to psychotherapy using mindfulness and you like the convenience of Skype Therapy, then do please contact me and schedule a Skype Therapy session.

So Skype Therapy is very effective. You don’t need to be in the same room as a therapist. You do need to see each other. And of course, that is what Skype allows. It allows you to see each other. And that makes it as effective as being in the same room as the therapist.

So if you would like to learn more and you’d like to schedule some Skype Therapy sessions with me, or if you have questions you would like to ask, please go to my contact page and email me. Thank you.

Skype Therapy for overcoming anxiety and depression

If you’re looking for help for overcoming anxiety and depression or other emotional problems through online therapy, then I invite you to look at my website and schedule a Skype Therapy session with me.

Skype Therapy is an excellent alternative to meeting a therapist in person and it provides the same quality of psychotherapy service, but you don’t have to travel to see the therapist. And this can be quite important if you’re suffering from agoraphobia or or if you find it difficult to talk to a therapist in person.

Being able to see someone online is a lot less intimidating for most people. So this is a good option if you’re looking for help in overcoming emotional suffering.

So the techniques that I teach during Skype Therapy sessions are very well researched and work extremely well. For managing anxiety and depression without the use of medications.

So medications may have a place, but really they do nothing more than reduce symptoms. They don’t treat the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression. So for that, you need to work at the psychological level. You need to uncover the habitual reactive conditioning that causes anxiety and depression. And that is the focus of what I teach during these Skype Therapy sessions.

The method that I use is called on Mindfulness Therapy. And essentially, this is a way of working with your emotions, using mindfulness to establish a very conscious and present relationship with your emotions as you experience them, without becoming caught up in those habitual patterns of reactivity.

So the real problem is the reactivity, because that inhibits healing. It inhibits recovery. It feeds emotional suffering.

Reactive thinking or secondary emotional reactivity has the effect of reinforcing the underlying anxiety or depression. If you want to heal, you have to learn how to break free from those habits, those habitual patterns.

And this is where mindfulness comes in, because mindfulness is a way of bringing conscious awareness to those habits, and habits cannot thrive in the light of conscious awareness, they operate subconsciously. So when you bring consciousness to them, you begin to weaken their effects. And with training in a strategic way with mindfulness, you can completely neutralize those blind reactive habits.

So that takes the fuel away from the underlying anxiety or depression. And this approach works extremely well.

The second quality of mindfulness that we develop, and that I will teach you during these online therapy sessions, is compassion. That is, how to develop a compassionate relationship with your anxiety, your depression and other painful emotions.

At the end of the day, that is exactly what those emotions need. Those are essentially emotional wounds that need your conscious, compassionate care in order to heal. And that is the primary focus of mindfulness training. It is to provide that quality of relationship between what we call your True Self, which is that higher self that is able to stay present with painful emotions without reacting and is able to give conscious, compassionate healing qualities to help that emotion.

And so that’s what we focus on developing during these therapy sessions. Most people see really profound changes within a few weeks once you start applying these mindfulness techniques that I’ll be teaching you.

This is much more effective than taking medications. Medications will do nothing to change those underlying patterns, those habits.

It’s often also very important to build a conscious relationship with your behaviors as well. So addiction is a classic form of behavioral reactivity, essentially as a way of trying to avoid your suffering. And any kind of avoidance is a form of reactivity and that inhibits healing.

So we look at our behaviors as well to make sure that we can break free from the blind habitual addiction to those behaviors in the same way.

We meditate on those impulses behind addiction in order to break free from them. We meditate on our anxiety and depression and emotional pain in order to heal them.

So there’s lots to learn about Mindfulness Therapy. It is very effective. It works very well online through Skype and most people see profound changes.

If you would like to schedule Skype Therapy with me, then please contact me. Tell me more about yourself and how I can help you and we can schedule a Skype Therapy session so you can begin to experience directly just how effective it is to bring mindful awareness to your emotions.

So please contact me if you would like help overcoming anxiety or depression or addiction. Thank you.

Online Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

Learn how to eliminate anxiety or depression. Talk with a Therapist Online via Skype for highly effective online mindfulness therapy for Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Depression, Social Anxiety Disorder and Agoraphobia, OCD and intrusive thoughts, Addictions, Post-traumatic stress or any psychological problems that do not require treatment by a medical professional. Contact me to learn more about this online counseling therapy service and to arrange for a therapy session with me.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional mindfulness-based online therapist. I offer Skype online therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression and also for the treatment of addictions as well.

Skype therapy is a very convenient way of connecting with a therapist like myself to get the help you need for overcoming difficult emotions. Using Skype is very important because it allows you to see each other which is necessary for good communication and effective psychotherapy. There are other forms of online therapy such as email correspondence and even telephone counseling, but none of these are as effective as Skype Therapy.

Mindfulness Therapy is a particularly effective way of working with difficult emotions, especially anxiety and depression to promote healing.

Mindfulness therapy teaches you how to overcome the habit of Reactive Identification. This is the process whereby we become overwhelmed by thoughts or emotions that arise in the mind. Typically, this is a very habitual process that we are not aware of. The secret is learning how to develop non-reactive consciousness (mindfulness) in relation to our thoughts and emotions, memories and perceptions, and this is what I will teach you during Mindfulness Therapy sessions.

When the thought or emotion gets triggered, either internally from thoughts, or externally through the senses, then this triggers this internal process of identification, where we literally become the thought or emotion. So, this causes a tremendous contraction in the mind in which we become identified and, therefore, limited by the emotions that have been triggered. Overcoming this habit of reactive identification, as it is called in Mindfulness Therapy, is a very key part of what I teach my clients during these online Skype therapy sessions.

Once we learn to stop reacting to our thought and emotions, then we can begin exploring how to facilitate healing of the emotional pain. This involves cultivating compassion and interacting in a compassionate way toward your emotions, instead of pushing them away, which is our reactive habit. You already know about the power of compassion for healing emotional suffering in your family or friends. Now imagine what would happen if we were to learn how direct some of that compassion internally towards our inner emotional pain and emotional wounds. The tragedy is that we don’t know how to do this, but you will learn how to promote inner healing when you learn how to apply mindfulness internally.

If you would like to learn more about how to break free from anxiety or depression or addiction or other emotional problems, do please go to my website and then email me. I will be happy to answer your questions and we can schedule a Skype therapy session at a time that works for you. I see clients throughout the world. It doesn’t matter where you live, as long as you have access to the internet and also access to PayPal, which you will need to make secure online payments after the conclusion of each Skype therapy session.

So, please contact me if you would like help overcoming anxiety or depression. Thank you.

How to start Skype Therapy

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I’m a professional psychotherapist specializing in Mindfulness Therapy which I offer online over Skype.

So if you would like to learn how to start Skype Therapy to help you overcome your anxiety or depression or other emotional problems then please reach out to me by e-mail. Tell me more about yourself and how I can help you and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about Skype Therapy.

People like online therapy in general because it’s so much more convenient. It means you can organize your sessions from home. You don’t have to leave home to go to a therapist’s office, and this can be very beneficial.

So I see lots of people who suffer from agoraphobia, and I also see quite a few people who suffer from driving phobia and difficulty with driving in general. But I also have quite a few clients such as stay at home mums or the elderly or people who generally find it difficult to leave home for whatever reason.

So online therapy has a lot of great advantages. And as long as you use Skype or similar video format then the Skype Therapy sessions are really no different than talking with a therapist in person. It’s really important that you can see each other. That makes the communication more effective and equivalent to meeting in person.

Another reason why people like Skype Therapy is because it feels more comfortable in general. It is far less intimidating than going to a clinic or a therapist’s office.

It’s also more private too and that’s another feature that many people like. When you’re dealing with difficult emotional problems, orr maybe an addiction, it’s often difficult to talk about this in public. It’s easier for you to talk in private, and of course talking to to me through Skype offers you that degree of privacy.

So if you would like to learn more about Skype Therapy and the Mindfulness Therapy approach that I specialize in, do please email me.

All you need to start Skype Therapy is a laptop, tablet or even an iPhone, which has her Skype installed on it, and you need a reasonably good internet connection, which is usually not a problem these days. And you need a quiet place in which to conduct your therapy sessions.

So during the Skype Therapy sessions I will teach you how to work with your emotions using mindfulness. Now you may have heard about mindfulness. It’s a very very interesting area. It’s been around many hundreds of years, of course, and traces back to the teachings of the Buddha. But now we are discovering how to apply mindfulness in overcoming emotional suffering. And it works extremely well when working with anxiety or depression or for managing the painful and compulsive emotions that are associated with an addiction.

I have also developed a number of mindfulness-based techniques for working with PTSD that are proving very successful indeed. These include techniques like mindfulness-based imagery reprocessing, where you can effectively decrease the intensity of a flashback memory by changing the way that you see that scene in the mind.

So working with imagery is actually a very important part of working with emotions in general. Even anxiety and depression has associated internal imagery and this is why we often feel overwhelmed when we are struggling with chronic anxiety or depression. Literally, that’s because the emotion is very large and we see it above us in our internal imagery. That’s why we use that term, “feeling overwhelmed.”.

When you’re working with depression we often associate depression with black, the color black, and the imagery is often very dark in color. These characteristics are very important and it’s something that we can uncover during Mindfulness Therapy, where we really look at the structure of your emotions. We are interested in finding out how they work how your mind creates anxiety or depression. And imagery is a big part of that.

Another part of Mindfulness Therapy has to do with trying to change your relationship to your emotions and thoughts as well. This is very important because our habit is to become completely lost in our emotions or thoughts. We become identified with them and when you become identified with them then this leads to emotional suffering.

What we have to learn is how to actually form a conscious relationship with our emotions and thoughts, as well, in which we do not become identified, where we can see them has mental objects.

So this shift in perception is a very important part of mindfulness training. When you can see the emotion as an object, instead of identifying with it, then that process, in and of itself, frees you from a great deal of emotional suffering. It also stops feeding that emotion, because we are no longer identifying with it. If you don’t feed on emotion then that emotion really has no choice but to continue its natural process of resolution in which it loses intensity.

So that’s a big part of Mindfulness Therapy and I will teach you about these ways of working with your anxiety or depression in great detail during the online therapy sessions.

So if you’d like to learn more please email me and let’s schedule is Skype Therapy session. Thank you.

Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy for Healing Anxiety and Depression without the use of Medications

Standard talking therapy can be helpful, but often it does not change the reactive psychological habits that is the real cause of your emotional suffering.

The same can be said for prescription medications – prescription medications may relieve symptoms for a while but do nothing to help you change the underlying conditioned negative thinking that feeds anxiety and depression.

Most of the people that I work with through Skype notice very significant reduction in the level of their anxiety and depression after 3-4 weeks of psychotherapy via Skype with me.

Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy is an excellent choice for most people because it works on changing the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression rather than just treating symptoms. The focus is on teaching you practical tools and methods between sessions. This is why most of my clients notice improvements very much quicker than is reported for the usual “talk-based therapy.”

Go to my website and email me to learn more about this online psychotherapy service and to organize an online therapy session with me.

This Skype therapy service is available world-wide, including the USA, UK and Europe. All you need is a reliable internet connection and you are ready to start online therapy with me.

During Skype therapy I will teach you how to manage anxiety and depression more effectively using the techniques of Mindfulness Therapy that I developed over 20 years ago and which work extremely well for most people, and without the need for anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications.

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I specialize in online therapy via Skype. Skype therapy is a very effective way for dealing with many common psychological, emotional problems including anxiety and depression. I also work with addictions and other forms of compulsive disorders.

Of course, Skype therapy is suitable only if you do not require medical treatment for your condition, but most psychological and emotional conditions respond extremely well to psychotherapy that does not use medications and this can be delivered over Skype just as effectively as in-person.

So if you are interested in effective treatment for anxiety via Skype then please go to my website and learn more about the mindfulness approach that I offer via Skype, and contact me if you have any questions about Skype therapy. If you would like to schedule a session please let me know and we will find a time that works for you.

So the whole basis of the mindfulness therapy approach that I offer via Skype is about teaching you how to change the relationship that you have with your anxiety or depression. The relationship is the central most important thing that determines whether you become a victim of anxiety or depression or whether you can facilitate the healing of anxiety or depression.

The real problem is what we call reactive identification whereby we simply become consumed by our emotions. We contract into the emotion and we take on the identity of the emotion. So when you say, “I am afraid” you literally become the fear. In the mindfulness training that I offer we learn to break this habit, the primary cause of your anxiety. Instead, we learn to see the fear or the depression or the anxiety as an object in the mind.

It is essential you break the habit of becoming identified with it. When you do that you stop feeding the emotion, you stop fueling it through reactive thinking and other forms that reactivity that we also become identified with.

It is very, very important that you learn to establish a relationship that is non-reactive with your emotions. This creates the right internal conditions whereby the emotions begin to heal and change themselves, and anxiety will change if you stop identifying with it and stop reacting to it.

It takes training, but it’s really quite simple, and when you take this very direct approach to working with anxiety, depression you’ll be quite surprised at how fast things change.

So if you learn more about Skype therapy and how to effectively treat anxiety without using medications, then please email me and schedule a Skype therapy session with me.

Online Psychotherapy via Skype

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I’m a professional online therapist and I offer therapy via Skype. Skype therapy is an immensely convenient and also very effective way of working on difficult emotions, including anxiety and depression. Many of my clients come to me for help with social anxiety disorder and of course I also see lots of people who are suffering from agoraphobia and are not able to leave their house to work with a therapist.

So I would say most people who choose Skype therapy are looking for the greater convenience and independence that it offers. Many of my therapy clients live abroad and don’t have access to a local therapist. Others live in rural areas of America or Canada or Australia even where it’s difficult to find a local service to work with.

So if you’re interested in Skype therapy please go to my website and learn more about this approach.

So mindfulness therapy which is what I offer online via Skype is a very effective way of changing those emotional habits that create anxiety and depression.

We do this by breaking free from the blind reactive habit of becoming identified and reactive. This is the central problem that most people face. Thoughts for example, are common triggers that trigger anxiety and what happens is that the instant that the thought arises it instantly triggers the underlying anxiety.

So we work on breaking this compulsive reactive habit so that even if the thought arises you don’t have to react with anxiety or depression or any other emotional reaction. We learn to essentially isolate the triggers from the emotional reactions.

This is very, very important indeed for changing anxiety and depression. You have to stop feeding the underlying emotion through reactivity. When you stop feeding it then the emotion will begin a process of what is called “auto-resolution.” It will start to change itself if you don’t feed it. The analogy here is like a fire. If you stop feeding a fire with fuel then that fire will automatically begin to burn itself out and eventually it will completely burn itself out so there is no fire left at all.

The same principle applies to our emotions. If we stop feeding them through reactivity, through identification, through aversion and through avoidance, if we stop feeding them through these forms of reactivity, then those emotions will also burn themselves out. They will learn to change and resolve themselves. This is a very well demonstrated fact.

So Skype therapy is an exciting option. It’s very effective and it is just as effective as talking in-person if you’re interested in changing emotional habits like anxiety or depression or OCD or addiction or social anxiety disorder. Any of these kind of emotional habits can be changed very effectively by mindfulness-based Skype therapy. So if you’re interested in learning more to go to my website and email me.

I see Skype therapy clients throughout the USA. I’m based in Colorado but I also see many clients in the UK and Europe and as far away as Singapore and Japan and Australia. All you need for Skype therapy is a good internet connection and of course you need a copy of Skype to download it on your laptop or on your iPhone or iPad or whatever device you use.

You also will needs to use PayPal account to make payments for Skype therapy sessions. so all of this you can learn about on my web sites counselingtherapyonline.com.

If you want to go ahead and schedule a Skype therapy session with me, simply go to my website and email me and we will exchange emails to find a time that works for you and for me, and it usually was quite quite well. If you are east of Colorado then it’s going to be later in the day so that often works very well, especially for clients in Europe and the UK because it will be evening time for them there.

Mindfulness Therapy for Recovering from Anxiety and Depression without relying on Drugs

Traditional talking therapy may be a great help, but often it does not help you heal the cognitive reactivity that feed your depression or anxiety.

This also applies to the use of prescription medications – medications may provide a temporary relief from anxiety and depression symptoms for a while, but medications are not effective for transforming the underlying process that produces your emotional suffering.

The school of psychotherapy that I offer is known as Mindfulness Meditation Therapy, which is extremely successful for promoting recovery from anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Agoraphobia, OCD, Phobias and Panic Disorder and for treating chronic depression and other common psychological issues caused by conditioned negative thinking.

Most clients see real and lasting reduction in the intensity of their anxiety and depression after 3-4 sessions of Skype Therapy with me.

Mindfulness Therapy is very effective because it works on changing the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression rather than just treating symptoms. The focus is on teaching you practical tools and techniques that you can apply yourself between sessions. This is why most people notice results very much quicker than is reported for the usual “talk therapy.”

This Skype psychotherapy service is available throughout the USA, UK and Western Europe and world-wide. All you need is a reliable internet connection and you are ready to start Skype therapy with me.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I provide Skype Therapy. If you would like to speak with a therapist online then this is the right place for you. Skype therapy is particularly effective if you are interested in finding an alternative to medications and conventional talk therapy.

The whole focus of the Skype therapy service that I provide is to help you learn very specific ways of working with anxiety and depression, of learning how to overcome the patterns of habitual emotional reactivity that create these emotional states, and this is something you can learn online just as well as in the therapist’s office, and in some ways it maybe even better online because it puts you more in control and makes you less dependent on the therapist.

Good therapy is about learning how to work with your mind, it is not about forming a relationship with your therapist, it is not about spending hours and hours analyzing your family history, it is about how your mind works, how you create your anxiety or depression or other form of emotional suffering. This is what we specialize in during these online therapy sessions. We use the techniques of Mindfulness Therapy that I developed some years ago for this very purpose.

Mindfulness is simply a way of looking directly at your experience, at your mind, without judgement and without reactivity to see exactly how it works. When you start to investigate emotional suffering in this way, one of the things you will discover is that most emotional suffering is the product of becoming overly identified with the mind – with thoughts, with emotions, with habitual reactive content that gets triggered in the mind.

We have to become conscious of these patterns of habitual reactivity if we really want to change, and this is much more important than just talking about your emotions and it is certainly is much more effective than just trying to treat the symptoms with medications. Sometimes medications are called for, but for most people they simply prevent you from changing the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression by dulling the symptoms. You need to be able to change that process and for that you need to be fully conscious and aware and develop insight into the way that your mind works.

A general rule here in Mindfulness Therapy is that the more conscious you become of these patterns, the less power they will have over you. The more conscious you become of the habit that creates your anxiety or depression, the less anxious or depressed you will feel.

Skype Therapy for anxiety and depression

If you are interested in the Skype therapy services that I provide do please go to my website and email me for more information.

Online psychotherapy is becoming more and more popular both because of the obvious convenience of online therapy or counseling sessions, but also because this represents a new approach to helping you manage common emotional problems such as anxiety and depression or OCD or PTSD or any other form of emotional stress.

The approach that I teach is based on Mindfulness Therapy, which really focuses on helping you change the emotional patterns of habitual reactivity that cause anxiety and depression. These reactive patterns become established, often in childhood, and they stay with us through most of our life until we begin to develop much more consciousness of these underlying, essentially, unconscious habits. People are not used to challenging these habits, they think that they are natural and unchangeable, but all habits can be changed, including the emotional habits of anxiety and depression.

The key is to start to focus conscious awareness on those habits. Habits rely on unconsciousness, they thrive when we do not look at them, when they are allowed to simply proliferate unconsciously. But the moment you start to focus conscious awareness on habits, then they begin to change and begin to lose their momentum. So, the whole focus of Mindfulness Therapy is to apply conscious awareness to your emotional habits. This is by far the most direct way to transform anxiety and depression or other forms of emotional suffering.

You have to start changing the anxiety itself, and one of the most important things that we learn during mindfulness therapy of anxiety or depression is what really causes that emotional suffering are not thoughts but emotional imagery. How we see the thoughts or beliefs in the mind is what gives them power and what makes them real for us.

So, one of the central things we do during our therapy sessions together is explore the imagery of the emotions and making that imagery conscious, because when we can see how the imagery works then we can begin to change it, we can change the emotional imagery, and when you change that imagery you end up changing the emotion itself.

So this is what we explore during Mindfulness Therapy. We start to dissect the emotional imagery and then start exploring changing it in a very practical, direct way. This provides one of the most effective ways to actually change the intensity of our emotions.

So, if you would like to learn more about emotional imagery and how to change anxiety and depression by changing its imagery, go to my website and then if you would like to schedule a session with me, simply email me.

I work with people throughout the United States, North America, beyond to Europe, the UK, the Middle East, and as far away as Australia. So, as long as you have good internet connection then it is possible for us to have a Skype therapy session.

So, please simply email me, tell me more about yourself, what you have tried to date, and then I will be happy to explain to you more about how Mindfulness Therapy can work, and then we can schedule a trial session so you can see for yourself the immense effectiveness of using image reprocessing for changing emotions. Thank you!

Skype Therapy Online for Anxiety and Depression

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional psychotherapist based in Colorado, USA and I offer Skype Therapy online for the treatment of anxiety and depression for people who are looking for an alternative to medications or traditional talk therapy.

Most people who come to me have already tried medications and they’re trying to get off medications because of side-effects or because they simply don’t seem to work, which is quite a common complaint. Medications may provide a short term usefulness for treating symptoms, for reducing the severity of anxiety or depression, but as a long-term strategy medications are really not adequate. They are not sufficient because they can’t change the underlying psychological process that is causing your anxiety or depression.

So anxiety and depression are produced by underlying psychological reactions, conditioned psychological habits that feed that anxiety and depression and keep it from healing, particularly reactive thinking, that’s one of the most common processes that feeds anxiety and depression.

Thoughts don’t cause anxiety or depression, but they certainly do feed that emotion of anxiety or depression if it’s already present. So thoughts, reactive thoughts have this tendency to reinforce emotional suffering and also they prevent that suffering from healing. So these two factors are at work here.

So if you want to really break free from the cycle of anxiety or depression, you have to work on changing these underlying psychological habits. These habits operate subconsciously and therefore, we’re not really consciously aware of what’s happening in the mind. We are aware of feeling anxious or feeling depressed, but we’re not really aware of the process that’s producing those feelings.

So I have developed a system for working with these underlying psychological habits that’s called Mindfulness Therapy. And it’s very effective. It’s a very effective way of working with your emotions to stop these underlying reactive habits and to promote healing of the emotion itself.

So you can learn more on my website. But if you’re interested in trying to very different approach than conventional talk therapy or medications, then please contact me and ask any questions you may have about Mindfulness Therapy.

But really, Mindfulness Therapy is about developing a very conscious and mindful relationship with your emotions, with your anxiety or depression or any other emotion that’s causing problems for you.

The biggest issue that I encounter is that people do not have a conscious relationship with their emotions. They react to their emotions with avoidance or aversion or trying to escape the emotional pain through alcohol or other addictive process. There is this tendency to react and try to get away from pain, which is understandable, but which has the undesired effect of preventing healing.

So conscious awareness or mindfulness is required for healing those psychological habits.

So in Mindfulness Therapy, we don’t talk about our emotions so much. Instead, we focus mindful awareness on those emotions. In effect, we learn how to meditate on how our emotions to develop this inner consciousness that is essential for healing.

So we learn to meditate on our emotions, and that is the primary process of mindfulness meditation as I teach it. Meditating on the mind in order to bring about healing in the mind. This is essential, otherwise you become a prisoner of those reactive habits.

So. I will teach you how to meditate on your emotions during our Skype Therapy sessions together, if you choose to work with me. The approach is very effective, and unlike medications, it gives you tools that you can apply yourself, including mindfulness meditation, so you can start to work on your emotions between sessions and develop the skills necessary to promote healing and well-being.

This approach is very effective and most of my clients see tremendous improvements after the first three or four sessions.

The key is learning how to apply mindfulness to work with your mind effectively.

So if you would like to schedule Skype Therapy with me, then please reach out to me. Go to the Contact Page and send me an email. Tell me more about yourself and how I can help you. Tell me what you’ve tried so far. And tell me what times work for you so we can work on scheduling a Skype Therapy session.

Skype Therapy is a wonderful alternative, it’s so much more convenient and more comfortable for people who are looking for psychological help with anxiety and depression or addictions, too.

So please contact me if this interests you, and I’ll be happy to help you learn how to heal emotional suffering using the methods of Mindfulness Therapy. Thank you.

Let me answer your questions about psychotherapy via Skype, and when you feel ready, you can schedule a Skype therapy session with me.

Looking for Skype Therapy for help with Anxiety & Depression?

If you’re looking for Skype therapy for help with anxiety or depression or any other emotional problem that can benefit from psychotherapy then I do encourage you to look at my website and learn more about the online therapy service that I provide over Skype.

Skype is a very effective way of connecting clients and therapist together. You can see each other and this makes the therapy sessions as good as being in person for the vast majority of people.

Skype therapy is designed to help you learn more effective methods of working with your mind. It is designed to teach you how to work with your emotions and with your thoughts such that you don’t become overwhelmed by them, that you don’t become controlled by emotional and cognitive reactivity.

And the particular style of psychotherapy that I offer online is called Mindfulness Therapy. This has proved to be incredibly effective for treating anxiety and depression because it focuses very much on learning how to break free from those reactive habits, whereby we become lost in our reactive thinking or emotional reactivity.

It allows you to break free from those habits and then effectively heal the underlying emotional suffering by developing a non-reactive relationship with your emotions and also with your thoughts.

Developing this conscious and non-reactive and non-habitual relationship with your emotions and thoughts is critical for change. This is how you are able to start the process of healing. Healing is really a function of how well you can stay conscious with your emotional pain.

Our habit is to become reactive. We essentially lose consciousness and we become overwhelmed by our emotional pain. So learning how to break this habit is absolutely essential for any kind of meaningful psychotherapy. For mindfulness therapy, this is our primary focus. We start this In Session 1 and we develop it each week until you achieve that freedom.

The effects are quite dramatic and most clients that I work with see quite substantial changes within three to four sessions. And this is what you should be aiming for.

Psychotherapy is not meant to be endless, it’s meant to be very focused and give you the tools that you need to better manage your mind. In mindfulness therapy this is a very important principle. We want to produce results quickly, and as I say, most clients see quite quite big changes within the first few sessions.

So after establishing a non-reactive and mindful relationship with your emotions and with intrusive thoughts you then proceed to help these emotions heal. And we do this by developing a very compassionate relationship as well as a very conscious relationship with those emotions. This is necessary to help them heal. We learn how to interact with our emotions in a way that promotes healing and not further reactivity.

The best example that explains what this means is to look at the relationship between a parent and a child. If a parent becomes reactive and lost in their own reactivity then they cannot help the child heal if the child is suffering.

For that to occur the parent must be free from reactivity he or she must be able to form a conscious and compassionate and loving relationship with the child in order to effect healing and help the child overcome its own suffering.

This relationship is exactly what we must cultivate internally in our in relationship to our emotions and also thoughts. We must build a relationship that is not only conscious but also based on compassion, friendliness and even love.

We must learn to develop a friendly relationship towards our anxiety or depression or sadness or guilt or shame. Whatever it is we must build that quality of relationship with it if it is to heal. If we simply react with avoidance and aversion or resistance or suppression then the emotions cannot heal.

So developing the right kind of relationship with our mind is quite essential. I will teach you exactly how to do this using mindfulness and in the first few sessions you will rapidly learn how to change the way that you relate to your emotions to your thoughts and also to your memories, if you are suffering from traumatic memories.

There are many other things that we can do during mindfulness therapy sessions. Another big area to look at is the imagery of the emotions. This is really quite important. So all emotions are based around imagery.

How you see the emotion of thoughts in the mind determines the intensity of the emotion itself. Seeing this imagery is very important because it allows you to change the imagery and when you change that imagery of a painful emotion you help it heal.

So we work at these two levels, developing the right kind of relationship with your emotions and thoughts and then looking at the imagery of your emotions and thoughts and helping that imagery change and heal.

So if you would like to learn more, please reach out to me by email and let’s schedule a trial Skype Therapy session so you can see for yourself just how effective this approach is for healing and recovering from quite severe anxiety and depression. I also get excellent results for PTSD and recovery from traumatic and intrusive memories using the methods of Mindfulness Therapy via Skype.

Effective Psychotherapy from Home via Skype

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional online psychotherapist. I’ve been offering psychotherapy through Skype for over ten years now. And I do this because most people really enjoy Skype Therapy.

People find this to be a much better experience than going to see a therapist in their office. It is much less intimidating. It’s much more convenient for you and also more comfortable for you since you can conduct your therapy sessions from your own home or familiar surroundings that you feel comfortable in. And that’s really important.

So good psychotherapy, whether it’s in person or online, needs to enable you. It needs to teach you strategies and ways of working with the mind. It needs to teach you how to work with difficult emotions, whether that’s anxiety or depression or OCD or an addiction or grief or other difficult emotional problems, using methods that you can apply yourself. This is the important thing: that you learn how to work with your emotions yourself and good psychotherapy will teach you how to do this.

You do not need to see a therapist in person to receive good psychotherapy. You simply need to have access to someone who understands how to teach practical ways of working with the mind. So as long as you can see each other, then online therapy is, in my opinion, just as good as meeting in person, and may also be actually better because you, as the client, feel more comfortable and at ease with the process.

The style of therapy that I teach over Skype is called Mindfulness Therapy. And that works very well for anxiety and depression, particularly, and it will teach you those practical skills that I’ve been talking about that you can apply yourself between sessions to really change the way that you feel, to overcome anxiety and depression and to get back to a state of wellbeing and emotional resilience and the ability to meet life without emotional suffering.

Emotional suffering is not the natural state of things. It’s a product of habitual learned conditioned reactivity to life. Life may produce lots of ups and downs. Pain and pleasure and so on, but that is not the same thing as emotional suffering. So emotional pain is something that we encounter and usually resolves quite quickly. Emotional suffering does not resolve quickly it persists and it persists through a process of habitual reactivity. It’s a habit. That habit is what causes it to persist.

So overcoming reactive emotional habits is the focus of mindfulness therapy and the techniques for doing this can be learned quite easily and effectively online through the Skype Therapy sessions. If you’re interested in learning how to work with your emotions more effectively, then simply go to my website and email me to schedule a session.

So the way that we work with emotions is by overcoming the first major problem, which is the tendency to identify with our anxiety or depression or emotional suffering. The emotions are habits. They get triggered in the mind by various stimuli, whatever that might be. Pain, disappointments, stress, conflict, memories, whatever it might be. Those are simply triggers and they trigger the emotional habits that create the emotional suffering whether that are anxiety or depression.

We learn how to break these habits by actually meditating on the emotions directly. So emotional habits thrive because of unawareness. We simply are not aware of the reactive process that’s going on in the mind. The stimulus simply activates the habits that create the emotional suffering.

But once we start to bring more conscious awareness to our emotional habits we can begin to change those habits. Consciousness allows us to break free from our habits. That’s the first part of Mindfulness training, is learning to bring more consciousness to our emotional suffering so we can break these emotional habits. And we do that as I say by actively meditating on the emotions.

That is the way to do it. Not trying to escape our emotional pain or just talking about them endlessly or indulging in the emotional suffering. That’s another habit and it doesn’t resolve the suffering. We need to change our relationship, we need to break this habit of reactive identification so that we don’t fall victim to the emotional habits.

So that’s a very important part of mindfulness training. The other part that I’ll explain to you and teach you during our sessions is how to facilitate the healing of emotional suffering. So this is the compassionate aspect of mindfulness that’s so important. And the combination of developing more consciousness and developing more compassion towards your own inner emotional suffering is what really produces the changes, and changes that last.

So medications are not a good choice if you want to change those underlying habits because medications cannot change habits they can only reduce symptoms for a short while.

So if you’d like to learn more about this approach than simply email me and we can schedule a session and you’ll see, even after the first session, just how powerful the mindfulness therapy approach can be for overcoming anxiety, depression and other forms of emotional suffering. So please reach out to me by email and lets schedule a session. Thank you.

Skype Therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional psychotherapist specializing in online mindfulness therapy. So a lot of people are looking for Skype therapy for anxiety and depression. Skype Therapy is a very effective and very convenient way of getting the help that you need to overcome your anxiety or depression.

I offer a Skype Therapy, and have done so for over ten years now, in which I specifically teach mindfulness therapy for help with anxiety and depression and also addictions and many of the common psychological problems that cause emotional suffering.

So if you’d like to get started with Skype Therapy with me then simply e-mail me. Tell me more about yourself and what’s happening for you emotionally and I’ll be happy to explain to you how we can work on reducing the level of emotional suffering that you’re experiencing by using the methods of mindfulness therapy.

I will teach you specifically how to apply mindfulness yourself for working with your emotions. This greatly increases the effectiveness of this approach. So we will work on your anxiety or depression during sessions using mindfulness but you will be able to continue that work between sessions. This means that you will see results much quicker than in conventional talk therapy.

We work at a very practical level really learning how to work with our thoughts and with our emotions more effectively. We have to learn how to break free from that habit of becoming overwhelmed by reactive thinking or becoming a prisoner of our learned emotional reactions.

Anxiety and Depression are best thought of as being habits. They are learned habits. We acquire these habits and then we become a prisoner of them. So mindfulness therapy is a way of learning how to break free from these habits and how to neutralize them.

So all habits thrive on unawareness, they operate unconsciously, and in mindfulness therapy we employ more consciousness. We learn how to bring conscious awareness to these habits and that’s one of the first principles for breaking out of any kind of habit is to make them more conscious, to bring consciousness to them. And the way we do that is by actually learning to meditate on our anxiety or depression or other emotions. This is a way of bringing that consciousness to them that will eventually break the habit.

We learn to observe our reactive thoughts as well. Reactive thoughts effectively feeds anxiety and depression and when they are operating unconsciously they provide a continuous source of fuel. So we need to see these patterns of reactive thinking very clearly and we need to change our relationship to them so that they don’t overwhelm us, they don’t take away our choice, they don’t control us.

So we meditate on our thoughts. This way we become the observer of those thoughts. Being the observer stops us becoming identified with the thoughts. So that process of reactive identification is the main problem. It Is the way that we simply become overwhelmed and identified with conditioned emotional reactions and thoughts. So we learn to break free from that by developing more consciousness. That is the first training in mindfulness therapy.

The second is learning to change the emotion itself, learning to heal that anxiety or depression. So healing is a very big part of mindfulness therapy. There are many aspects to the healing process but the most important is developing this conscious and caring relationship that is so much a part of mindfulness training with your emotions. We learn to develop compassion towards your anxiety or depression.

We learn to develop compassion towards your emotional pain. This is an essential part of the healing process. The biggest problem for most people is that the anxiety or depression becomes isolated, they become disconnected from the emotional pain. And when that emotional pain is disconnected or abandoned or neglected then it cannot heal.

So that combination of disconnection with your emotions and reactive identification with your emotions is what really causes the emotional suffering to persist and prevents healing. So we developed this inner friendship and compassionate relationship with our emotions and that is a vital part of healing.

There are other things we will do during sessions but those are two of the key components: overcoming the blind unconscious habit of reactive identification and reconnecting with our emotions and developing a strong consciousness based relationship based on compassion and mindfulness with our emotions.

If you’d like to learn more about the mindfulness approach for healing anxiety and depression please contact me. This approach is very effective. People usually see quite big changes after the first few sessions with me.

Mindfulness Therapy via Skype for the treatment of Anxiety & Depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong. I offer mindfulness therapy via Skype for overcoming anxiety and depression and for working with a variety of emotional psychological problems that respond well to the principles of mindfulness therapy.

Now I offer my sessions via Skype. Skype therapy is a very exciting field. It makes psychotherapy more available and also allows you to receive the help you need from the comfort of home without having to commute to see a therapist.

So we use Skype because it allows you to see each other and that is essential for good psychotherapy and good communication in general. You must be able to see each other. If you can see each other then there is, in my experience and my clients’ experience, no difference whatsoever between therapy via Skype or meeting your therapist in person. As long as you can see each other there’s no difference, it is just as effective.

What is much more important than whether you meet online or in person is the approach and also the relationship that you have with your therapist, you must feel comfortable with them as a person and also with their approach.

The mindfulness therapy approach is particularly effective for most common psychological issues such as anxiety and depression or addiction or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Of course, I see a lot of clients who suffer from agoraphobia and severe social anxiety. This online service is very effective indeed for working with anxiety. Most of my clients suffer from anxiety in one form or another.

The mindfulness therapy approach is particularly good because it teaches you practical strategies, ways of working with your emotions, that you can practice and develop yourself between sessions, and that’s one of the principal goals of mindfulness therapy is to give you the tools.

So it is not a treatment-based approach. In fact, I do not encourage the use of medications or treatment-based approaches simply because they do not give you the tools to change the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression or addiction. Mindfulness therapy focus it focuses entirely on helping you transform the underlying causes of your emotional suffering.

So what are the underlying causes of anxiety and depression and other forms of emotional suffering?

Well the primary problem that we have to address is the way that we become blindly habitual and become reactive and develop patterns of reactivity that just operate without our choice or awareness. These conditioned habitual patterns of reactivity are at the heart of anxiety and depression.

Mindfulness is a strategy for developing greater awareness and conscious awareness. That means really seeing clearly these patterns of habitual reactivity. If you don’t see them then you can’t change them, they remain habitual. But once you see them clearly through mindfulness training then it becomes possible to break free from these habits. And that’s the first primary focus of mindfulness therapy is teaching you how to see your habits very, very clearly.

Overcome Habitual Reactivity

That is the first step. The second step is about training yourself out of these habitual reactions. Seeing them as the first, but the second step is learning how to develop what we call objective consciousness, that is, the ability to see these habits the emotions the thoughts the memories without becoming identified with them. When you become identified you become lost in those habitual patterns of reactive thinking. When you can see them objectively as objects that arise in the mind, then you’re able to break free from those habits.

So this is as a training process, where you actually train with your habits. It’s not sufficient just to see them; you have to learn how to develop a conscious awareness of them, a relationship with them, where you maintain that objectivity.

So objective consciousness, that’s the second major focus in mindfulness therapy. It’s all about developing a relationship with your mind, with your thoughts and emotions and memories.

The third theme that we focus on a great deal in mindfulness therapy is learning how to develop a different quality of relationship with your emotional pain. So typically we become very reactive. We become identified. We try to avoid our anxiety or depression. We seek distraction, sometimes in the form of drugs or activity. We try to do everything we can to run away from our anxiety and depression. This has the effect of reinforcing the emotional suffering.

So mindfulness training is about overcoming this habit of avoidance and aversion or resistance or fear of the mind, of the thoughts and the emotions. You have to develop the opposite, which is a relationship based on friendliness and compassion. That is, you have to learn how to be friendly and compassionate towards your own emotions and thoughts, even the unpleasant ones.

It is not sufficient to try and get rid of negative thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts. That will simply not work. You have to develop an objective and friendly relationship with your negative thoughts and emotions. This way you break free from their influence. You take away their power and you develop more power as your True Self, the observer, the one that observes these objects of mind.

So friendliness and compassion, this is a vital quality that makes mindfulness quite different than conventional awareness. It is not sufficient to just be aware. You have to develop a compassionate, friendly and open relationship with your mind. This is essential for healing.

A fourth aspect of our work is about changing the structure of your emotions. It’s about helping them heal. So healing is an essential part of mindfulness therapy. And I will teach you these mindfulness-based methods during our sessions together.

Mindfulness Therapy focuses on healing

So how do you help an emotion heal? Well, one of the principal understandings that that I’ve gained over the years is that the primary structure of your emotions is based in imagery, in how we see it in the mind. So emotions are structured around internal psychological imagery. When we say that we feel overwhelmed, it is because the image of the emotion is very large and high in our field of awareness.

So we have to look at this imagery objectively and then find out how we can help that imagery change, because one of the basic theories here is that in order for an emotion to heal the imagery has to change. The imagery is what defines the emotion.

So this will happen naturally. Imagery changes over time. And if you are not reactive, that imagery will change in a way that will lead to healing. This is how we get over grief or distressing experiences that we encounter in our daily life. The imagery changes over time. It becomes smaller, becomes less intense in color or form.

Change the imagery to promote healing

So imagery is the key to healing emotions. When we work with the imagery using mindfulness we explore, in a very conscious way, how to change that imagery to speed up the process of healing. So that is one of the great advantages of developing a conscious and mindful relationship with your emotions. You can increase the rate of healing.

So that’s a very important theme that’s often overlooked in other schools of psychotherapy, but in mindfulness therapy imagery is central. So we work a great deal on transforming that imagery.

So this is a brief outline of what mindfulness therapy is and I’ve just described to you the advantages of using Skype. If you would like to get help with your anxiety or depression or addiction or intrusive thoughts or whatever it might be, if you would like help, then please simply email me tell me more about how I can help you, and when you feel ready we can schedule a Skype therapy session at a time that works for you.

Home-based Psychotherapy Service to help you manage anxiety and depression more effectively

Being able to see a psychotherapist from the comfort of your own home offers many advantages. It is very important that you use Skype or some other video platform so that you can see each other. This improves communication, and from my experience therapy via Skype is just as good as therapy in-person.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong. I offer online therapy via Skype. So if you’re interested in getting help for overcoming anxiety or depression or addiction or any other psychological problems that are affecting the quality of your life then you might want to consider online therapy sessions with me. The great advantage of online therapy is that you can have your sessions at home.

So home-based psychotherapy is something that’s becoming more and more common, now. It’s very convenient and it’s just as effective as meeting in person as long as you use Skype or similar video platform.

If you can see each other then the quality of communication is just as good as meeting in person for the majority of people. Certainly that’s the experience of the clients that I’ve seen over the years now.

They find it is just as effective, and many times it’s even more effective simply because people feel more comfortable, they feel less intimidated and more receptive generally to the teachings that I will give you during these psychotherapy sessions.

It’s very important that you are comfortable, especially if you’re struggling with anxiety or depression or addiction. It is very important indeed that you feel open and free to explore the underlying emotions that are causing your suffering.

So this style of psychotherapy that I teach via Skype is called Mindfulness Therapy and you can read a lot more about Mindfulness Therapy on my website.

Mindfulness Therapy is similar to cognitive behavioral therapy in that it teaches very practical methods of working with anxiety and depression. It’s less based on abstract concepts and more based on the actual process that is causing your emotional suffering, for example, habitual reactive thinking. Cognitive therapy of course focuses very much on those repetitive and intrusive thoughts that cause your anxiety or depression or OCD or whatever it might be.

Mindfulness Therapy takes CBT to the next level because it works more at the level of emotion, the feelings underneath the thoughts that actually are what powers those thoughts. So trying to change thoughts alone is usually not quite enough. You have to change the underlying emotion itself, the anxiety or depression that is fueling those thoughts and beliefs. So that’s more the approach that I teach in Mindfulness Therapy sessions.

We work on changing the way that we relate to our emotions and thoughts. This is very critical because the biggest problem that that I see is that people simply become completely identified with their emotional reactions, their habitual emotional reactions and also they become identified with rumination and patterns of worrying and thinking that simply feeds those underlying emotions.

So we have to break free from this problem of reactive identification. We have to learn to develop independence in relationship to our emotions and to our thoughts and beliefs and also to our memories as well. We have to be able to see them objectively and this is a big theme in Mindfulness Therapy, the process that I have been working on for many years now.

It’s about learning to develop objective consciousness so you can see the thoughts and emotions and memories without becoming overwhelmed by them, without becoming lost in reactive thinking or emotional reactivity.

That’s very, very important. If you if you do not change your relationship to an objective relationship you will not be able to break free from those patterns of emotional suffering. So that’s the very first part of Mindfulness Therapy, it is developing this objective consciousness to be able to see your mind rather like seeing a movie on a screen. You have to develop that independence. When you have done that and when you can effectively stay conscious and present with your mind, with your thoughts and emotions without reacting, then you can begin to bring about change.

And in Mindfulness Therapy the change process is described as the response of compassion. That is where you are learning to develop a compassionate relationship towards your own mind, to your thoughts, your beliefs, your memories, your emotions. You have to start approaching them in a way that helps them heal. If you simply react out of habit they can never heal, they will just continue to burn in the mind, essentially like a fire.

But if you can develop an objective relationship with your emotions and then you can start to respond compassionately to help those emotions change, then you are well on the journey to extinguishing that fire, on promoting healing in the mind. So healing is our primary objective here.

If you’re working with anxiety or depression we want to be able to look at the triggers that trigger anxiety and depression and we want to be able to neutralize those habitual reactions to those triggers. So Mindfulness Therapy is really good at healing and neutralizing the underlying emotions that feed the thoughts and beliefs that sustain anxiety and depression.

If you would like to learn more about Skype therapy and the home-based psychotherapy program that I offer, do please go to my website and feel free to email me. Ask any questions you have. And when you feel you’re ready let’s schedule a Skype therapy session so you can begin to get a sense of the incredible power of developing mindfulness in relationship to your mind.

It is extraordinary the changes that you can produce just by changing the way that you relate to your mind, developing that objective consciousness that is so much the hallmark of mindfulness, learning to be present with your mind.

So if you’d like to learn more and get started with some sessions with me, do please contact me. Most people see quite incredible changes within relatively few sessions because it is so practical, it is so focused on changing the mechanism that causes your emotional suffering. So if you’d like to get started please contact me now. Thank you.

Mindfulness Therapy for Healing Emotional Suffering without depending on Drugs

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional therapist based in Colorado and I offer Skype therapy. So this is online therapy delivered via Skype.

So Skype therapy is basically any form of psychotherapy that is delivered over Skype. The thing that is so important about the use of Skype is that it allows you to see each other and that’s really essential for effective online therapy.

So if you are interested is in this incredibly powerful alternative to in-person therapy sessions, then you should consider Skype therapy. I certainly invite you to contact me if you have any questions about Skype therapy and if you would like to explore whether this is a good approach for you and your specific needs. Simply go to my website and send me an email through the contact page.

So the advantage of Skype therapy is that it’s very convenient. It’s very much more comfortable for most people. Everyone that I’ve worked with really enjoys the online format; it’s much less intimidating than talking to a therapist in person. And this is quite important. It makes psychotherapy much more available for you to consider this less of a barrier to entry. It’s much less clinical in nature.

That’s not the intention of Skype therapy. It’s not a medical treatment. It doesn’t really advocate medical treatments for working with psychological conditions like anxiety and depression. Most people that I work with are simply looking for more effective ways of working with their emotions. People want to learn how to work with their anxiety and depression so that they can overcome these habitual emotional reactions and return to a state of greater well-being and freedom. And that’s the goal of Skype therapy as I teach it.

I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy, which is basically how to apply mindfulness to work with your emotions and to promote healing of anxiety and depression and any other form of emotional suffering.

So if you want to overcome anxiety and depression, you need to approach it as a psychological problem, not a medical problem. Medications may relieve symptoms for a while, but they do not do anything to change the underlying psychological process that produces your suffering.

So we need to examine that psychological process, and mindfulness is simply a very powerful form of conscious awareness training that allows you to really investigate what is happening in your mind, what is causing the anxiety and depression.

There are two basic processes going on that feed anxiety and depression, and those are habitual reactive thinking and emotional imagery. So habitual reactive thinking is the process whereby the emotion triggers the proliferation of thoughts. These could be thoughts about what if something happens? “What if” thoughts? we call them. It could be rumination over something that’s happened. It could be chronic worrying. It could be all kinds of negative thought patterns that have the same effect, which is to feed the underlying anxiety.

So the principal first step in freeing yourself from anxiety or depression is learning to break this habit of unconscious, habitual, reactive thinking. We have to learn to break free from those thoughts that feed the underlying anxiety or depression. The way that we go about doing this is by meditating on those emotions.

We use meditation to focus mindfulness on the emotions so we can see these reactive thoughts more clearly so that they stop operating subconsciously as a habit. We see them very clearly and when you can see your thoughts more clearly, you begin to break free from that subconscious influence because you now become the observer of those thoughts. And that observer is essentially separate from the thoughts; the observer is not with thoughts.

So the more you see of your reactions, the freer you become. So that’s the sort of fundamental mechanism of mindfulness training, and you have to meditate on your emotions if you want to break free from your anxiety or depression. You cannot avoid them and try to escape them. You have to investigate the habitual patterns that are operating at the psychological level that are feeding those emotions.

Typically, at the core of anxiety and certainly depression, you will also find very core emotions, often based on emotional trauma that has not been resolved or healed, so that internal trauma, that distress, that deep need, neediness. It could be tremendous hurt or pain, sadness or grief, a feeling of loss. These are all examples of core emotions that feed anxiety and depression, also.

So when we are learning to meditate on our anxiety and depression, we are also looking to see these emotions underneath the anxiety or depression and we establish a mindful relationship with those emotions. And this is essential for helping them heal. You have to build a conscious, a non-reactive relationship with your emotions. This allows healing to happen.

Emotional suffering will always try to heal itself if it’s free to change. The problem is that reactivity, which takes away the freedom to change, it feeds the emotion in much the same way, as fuel feeds a fire. If you take the fuel away, the fire is now free to do what it wanted to do in the first place, which is to extinguish itself, to burn itself hard.

So this is a very important principle. Overcoming reactivity promotes healing in a very big way. So the more that you can establish mindfulness internally with all of these individual emotions that are making up your anxiety or depression, the more healing happens and the faster it happens.

The second way we work with our emotions is to look at their imagery, because that is what actually organizes the emotion. So if it’s depression, it will have a certain color, it will probably be very large in size. It will feel overpowering, implying that it is large and also at a high position and your psychological field of vision. It will have lots of different characteristics to it that are what actually gives structure to the emotion and causes it to be depression or anxiety or anger.

You can think of the color of anger. Most people notice that the color is bright and usually red or orange. That is part of the structure of the anger. With depression, it may be dark colors, black or purple. That is part of the structure of depression. These components of that imagery are what actually create that emotion.

And again, the imagery is simply habitual in nature. But when we start to become mindful of that emotional imagery, we can begin to change the imagery. And when the imagery changes, then it heals. So this is a very direct and very effective way of working with this structure of your emotions.

So these two components, working with the reactive thoughts that feed emotions and the imagery that structures the emotion are a core part of Mindfulness Therapy. And I can teach you all of these things over Skype. I will teach you how to apply mindfulness to heal your anxiety or depression, to overcome those habitual emotional reactions.

It is very effective. And most people see dramatic changes within a few sessions. Usually this direct approach to working with the process itself that causes anxiety and depression is much more effective than simply talking about your emotions, as is common in most forms of counseling.

So if you’d like to learn more about the mindfulness approach to working with anxiety and depression and you like the idea of doing Skype therapy, then do please contact me and let’s schedule a Skype therapy session. Thank you.

Skype Therapy Sessions using mindfulness for healing anxiety and depression

Welcome. I offer therapy over Skype for the treatment of anxiety disorders, including agoraphobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression and addiction and other emotional problems that benefit from online therapy.

So being able to see a therapist online is really a great advantage to many people who find it difficult to find a local therapist to talk to or you might be living abroad. Clearly, if you suffer from agoraphobia then therapy sessions via Skype is essential.

Or you may simply prefer the online format. It offers a number of advantages. It’s certainly more convenient. It means you can have your therapy sessions at home without having to travel to see a therapist.

It is very much more comfortable for most people. People like the greater privacy offered by online therapy. It is much less intimidating, it’s much less clinical in nature, which can actually facilitate the healing process, especially if you are facing very uncomfortable or painful emotions.

The focus of Mindfulness Therapy by Skype is healing and recovery

So the focus of Skype Therapy sessions that I offer is to help you learn how to work with your emotions more effectively, how to heal anxiety and depression, how to free yourself from chronic anxiety and depression using in the techniques of Mindfulness Therapy.

We use therapy through Skype so that we can see each other in real-time. That’s really important for good communication, which makes online psychotherapy sessions much more effective. You do not need to be in the same room as your therapist, but you just need to be able to see each other and Skype makes that possible.

So during these Skype Therapy sessions, I’ll be teaching you how to apply mindfulness to bring about healing. Whether that’s healing anxiety or depression or overcoming panic attacks or working with intrusive thoughts and images in the case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or working with emotional trauma and PTSD. Online Mindfulness Therapy via Skype is also a very good approach for working with the emotional suffering that leads to addiction. All these forms of emotional suffering benefit from the methods of mindfulness therapy.

So what do we do during Mindfulness Therapy sessions? Well, the main focus is to learn is how to change the relationship that you have with your emotions, to bring in that element of consciousness, of mindfulness, so that you can be present with your emotions, without becoming identified with them, overwhelmed by them and without becoming a reactive.

The real problem that sustains anxiety and depression is that we do not have a conscious relationship with our emotions. We’re aware of them, but that’s not the same as being consciously connected to them as an observer. We have to establish this quality of observer consciousness where we can see the emotion but not become reactive, to be able to see the emotions without fear, without anger, without hatred.

Training in Objective Consciousness is vital for healing

We train to see the emotion exactly as it is, establishing this quality of objective consciousness. This has tremendous healing effects on all forms of emotional suffering and is essential for recovery from anxiety and depression. The real issue that prevents anxiety and depression and emotional trauma from healing is the blind habitual reactivity that takes conscious awareness away from the emotions that most need that conscious attention in order to heal.

When we get lost in reactivity, we we are denying conscious presence and without conscious presence emotions cannot heal. But when you re-establish that objective conscious presence, then emotions heal very effectively and at a very deep level. So our main purpose in Mindfulness Therapy is to build this internal relationship based on mindfulness, where you are learning to be totally present with your emotions without falling into the habits of blind reactivity.

It’s different than talk therapy. We’re not so much trying to analyze or understand our emotions, but our focus is to change the relationship with our emotions. When that relationship is right, healing happens and understanding and other changes in perceptions and beliefs follow quite naturally based on that direct conscious awareness.

So that’s a little bit about what I’ll be teaching you during these Skype Therapy sessions. If you would like to get started with me and schedule a therapy over Skype with me, then please go to the Contact Page. Tell me more about yourself. Tell me what you’ve tried so far. Mindfulness Meditation Therapy for Overcoming Anxiety and Depression without using Drugs

Most of the people that I work with through Skype see real changes after the first few weeks of psychotherapy via Skype with me.

Mindfulness Meditation Therapy is an excellent choice for most people because it works on healing the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression rather than just treating symptoms. The focus is on teaching you practical tools and methods between sessions. This is why most people experience significant changes very much quicker than is reported for the usual “talk therapy.”

Online Mindfulness therapy via Skype for overcoming anxiety and depression without using drugs.
So in mindfulness-based therapy, we work on changing these underlying habits, these psychological processes that operate unconsciously to produce emotional suffering, whether that’s anxiety or depression or any other form of emotional-psychological distress.

So these are a product of a conditioned habitual reactive process. The problem is that we are not readily aware of this underlying set of habits that creates your anxiety or depression. So in Mindfulness Therapy we focus awareness on our emotions. We actually learn how to apply mindfulness meditation to explore our emotions and to look at their structure to uncover these habitual reactive processes that are going on.

Now, of course, one of the major components in that reactive habitual structure will be thoughts, will be reactive habitual thoughts. It might be chronic worrying, it might be catastrophizing, it might be rumination, but these patterns of thoughts are what actually feed the anxiety or depression.

Now it’s important to understand the thoughts themselves do not cause anxiety or depression. That is s a common misconception. It’s actually the other way around. Anxiety tends to produce anxiety-based thoughts and anxiety-based thinking, and the same for depression. The emotional state of depression is what produces or takes form in reactive thoughts, rumination and depression-related thoughts. So they’re the product of the emotion. They give the emotion a structure and when they operate in a habitual manner they simply feed and sustain that underlying structure of the emotion.

So the first part of mindfulness therapy is really looking to see what these thoughts are, to identify them clearly. We then look at ways of changing our relationship to the thoughts. You can’t simply remove the thoughts. That’s another misconception; it’s not as simple as that. What you can do though is change your relationship to those thoughts so that you do not just blindly identify with those thoughts. That’s essential and that’s what typically happens when we are under the influence of habitual thinking. The thought gets triggered and then we become the thought. We literally become consumed by the thought and the reactive thinking that will manifest when we become identified with those negative thoughts.

So the first thing is to be able to develop conscious, mindful awareness of those thoughts; to see them very clearly when they get triggered in the mind, and then learn how to stay independent from them, not identifying with them. We do this through mindfulness meditation, which means that you learn how to meditate on those emotions and on the habitual thoughts that feed the emotion.

We train with them essentially. We train in not identifying with those thoughts. It’s like learning to develop balance on the edge of a river so that you don’t fall into the river and get swept away. Your thoughts are very much like a river. They have a lot of energy in them and if we’re not careful we fall into this river of thoughts and that basically takes us away and creates a lot of emotional suffering and simply feeds and reinforces the emotions underneath.

So holding emotions in conscious awareness is an essential part of mindfulness meditation. You deliberately find our anxiety or depression and we meditate on it, learning how to create this space around it where we maintain independence and balance.

When you bring conscious awareness to it, mindfulness, you can begin to change that habitual imagery, so you can change its color. And you explore during meditation what color feels best and what color allows that depression to decrease in intensity and what color would help it heal.

Our goal in all meditation work is one of bringing about and facilitating healing. So changing the imagery is how emotions heal, and very often they will do this by themselves over time.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
