Tribute to Late Sir Michael Somare We honour the late Sir Michael Somare for his exceptional leadership of our nation and his unwavering commitment to advancing ambulance services in Papua New Guinea. Sir Michael’s visionary leadership was instrumental in nationalising St John Ambulance at Independence. Sir Michael sponsored the National St John Council Bill to Parliament. The Bill became law in 1976 and thereby created the National St John Council as a sovereign statutory institution. His legacy has ensured critical emergency ambulance services continue to benefit our communities today.

It’s that time of year again! Over the past two weeks, our dedicated ambulance officers have been completing their annual reaccreditation training 🚑. All NStJA ambulance officers, nurses, doctors, and paramedics undergo mandatory reaccreditation every 12 months to ensure they remain sharp in the life-saving skills. A huge thank you to the Medical Board and NDOH Emergency Medicine for their invaluable support and oversight of NStJA ambulance training programs. 👏💪

🚑 First Aid Awareness on Fisherman Island 🌊 On October 9, the National St John Ambulance (NStJA) Community First Aid team visited Daugo Primary School on Fisherman Island, just off the coast of Port Moresby. The team worked with 120 students, teaching them: ✅ Basic first aid skills to handle common injuries ✅ Steps to take during emergencies The event was held in collaboration with the Water Police Directorate, with special thanks to Constables Yawing & Jardin and Sergeant Kim for their support. Community Health Education Manager, Ms. Zoe Saulep, highlighted the importance of these skills: “Although the island is only a 30-minute boat ride from Port Moresby, having basic first aid knowledge can make a significant difference.” The team is eager to continue this partnership and expand their outreach to more schools and communities throughout Central Province. The National St John Ambulance Community First Aid program is proudly supported by the Sir Brian Bell Foundation. #FirstAidAwareness #National StJohnAmbulance #CommunitySupport

📚🚑 This week, our amazing education teams—commercial first aid trainers, community first aid trainers, and ambulance educators—are at the Ambulance Education College for their annual reaccreditation! Through a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, they’re sharpening their skills to deliver top-notch First Aid training to workplaces and communities, and also to train ambulance officers and support training for our teams this year. 👏 Wishing them the best of luck in their reaccreditation and success in all the impactful programs they’ll lead this year! 💪 #FirstAid #AmbulanceEducation #EducationExcellence #Teamwork #CommunityCare
