🌡️ Decarbonising heat for the future. 🌡️ Heat is a significant part of Europe’s energy usage, with residential, industrial, and commercial heating being major contributors. Currently, fossil fuels dominate heat generation, but renewable sources are gradually gaining ground. ☀️ The adoption of alternative heating technologies faces challenges in availability and cost. Key solutions include electric heat pumps, green hydrogen, biomass, solar thermal power, geothermal heat, and power-to-heat devices. Overcoming these hurdles requires significant investment, political support, and innovative regulatory frameworks. ➡️ In our Fossil Detox Report, we are exploring the challenges and potential solutions in shifting to alternative heating technologies, strategic actions needed and the enablers to bring this to reality.
Offshore Wind Opportunities for the Iberian Peninsula Join us at OEEC for this must attend session on the Spanish & Portugues Offshore Wind markets. NedZero - Wind Energy Association, with support of The Embassies of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Spain and in Portugal and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development, will be presenting a session on the Spanish and Portuguese offshore wind markets at the Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) on 26 November in Amsterdam. The offshore wind sectors in Spain and Portugal are poised for substantial energy transformation, with both countries setting ambitious renewable energy targets and developing large-scale offshore wind projects. This session will examine the current situation and future plans of the Spanish and Portuguese offshore wind industries, identify key players already active in the market and highlight gaps and opportunities within the growing supply chain. If you're interested in learning more about these emerging opportunities and meeting some national key players in the Iberian offshore wind market, join our presentation by registering through this link: https://lnkd.in/e2ei7M_d. 📅 26 November 2024 | 13:30 – 15:00 | RAI Meeting Rooms: Room G109 We look forward to welcoming you on the 26th in Amsterdam!

Durable Carbon Removal & Corporate Claims in the Era of Article 6. On Saturday in Baku, we organised a panel moderated by Henrik Tegnér about Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which regulates mechanisms for cooperation between countries and global trading with emission reductions. This panel delved into the findings in the newly published paper “Durable Carbon Removal & Corporate Claims in the Era of Article 6” authored by Dr Injy Johnstone at Oxford Sustainable Finance Group, Tomas Thyblad at Nasdaq, and Mostyn Brown at AFRY. Some of our key takeaways from the panel: 🌍 Carbon removals will play an important role but should not be an alternative to reductions in your own value chain. 🤝 Article 6 is about relations between countries, but we know that the private sector will be making most of the investments, including in removals. 🔒 We need to ensure that permanent removals are sufficiently permanent. The white paper and the panel further explored "corresponding adjustments", a mechanism to avoid double counting in more than one country or company, and discussed how to ensure companies can still participate in the carbon removals market. Many thanks to a very competent panel and for a great discussion Tomas Thyblad, Dr Injy Johnstone, Pedro Martins Barata. #cop29 #makingfuture

💨 The role of natural gas as a transition fuel in bridging the energy gap. 💨 The global energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation. Achieving global net zero by 2050 requires a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, which comes with challenges during the transition phase. But natural gas is considered a transitional fuel due to its lower carbon footprint compared to coal. Recent geopolitical events, including Russia’s war on Ukraine, have elevated the role of natural gas, particularly from the Middle East and the growing Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) production and exports from the US. ➡️ In the Fossil Detox Report, we have identified natural gas as transition fuel.
