Over the past decade, BASE has not only provided safe shelters for families in need but has also brought hope for a brighter future to over 10,000 individuals. This journey has been life-changing for Alina, a resident of Kawayan Housing in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City. For the past seven (7) years, she has lived in a Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology (CBFT) house. Once burdened by the constant fear of losing her home during calamities, she now enjoys the security of a safe and stable home for herself and her family. A look back at the highlights from our very first Bamboo Tech Workshop with Sebastian Kaminski from Arup. We were thrilled to see over 50 participants, both in-person and online, coming together to explore the potential of bamboo as a sustainable and innovative construction material. The growing interest from professional builders inspires us to keep pushing boundaries and advocating for bamboo as a viable, environment-friendly alternative in the construction industry. To date, BASE has successfully conducted seven training programs for professional builders, including exciting new courses on structural and architectural design using bamboo. Kicking off the year with more resilient homes in Mindanao! BASE recently held a groundbreaking ceremony in Panabo, Davao, to begin the construction of four housing units in partnership with Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Incorporated (TADECO) for the families of their farmers. This milestone marks the start of a new collaboration aimed at improving the living standards of families in need by providing them with safe and secure homes. These model units are part of a larger initiative to highlight the potential of bamboo in housing and to promote the development of durable, affordable, and sustainable homes across Mindanao. The Quezon Local Government Unit’s Bamboo Supply and Treatment Facility, our new partner facility in Quezon, Isabela is taking shape, with bamboo panels now being installed. In collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Quezon, we are proud to be building the 8th Treatment Facility in the Philippines and the first in Northern Luzon. This project not only champions sustainable construction but also creates meaningful job opportunities for local farmers and fosters a circular economy. Alongside the facility, BASE will construct a model unit to demonstrate the innovative Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology (CBFT). This will be the region’s first CBFT house, paving the way for more local government units to adopt sustainable construction practices and build resilient communities. Building stronger communities together. 🏘 The Hilti Group, Hilti Foundation, and BASE together with partners from Roxaco Land Corporation and Kanya Kawayan work hand-in-hand to complete the two single-storey duplex model houses in Barangay Munting Indang, Nasugbu, Batangas as part of the Engaged Beyond Business (EBB) Program.
