January 10, 2025: Pakistan #CAREC SFPs meeting was held today at the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The meeting was co-chaired by the Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary EAD and CAREC NFP, and attended by all SFPs and representatives of ministries. The meeting reviewed and discussed ongoing projects, the submission of new proposals, and the way forward.

International development expert and global nomad with more than 25 years of diverse program and leadership experience in inclusive and sustainable human development and economic empowerment.
Almost ten years ago, I started to work on designing a program to support human resource and skills development for the #Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwestern #prc. It was always my dream to share the knowledge and experience of this incredible provincial leadership team that has transformed how industry and #tvet work together to produce high quality skilled workforce to support the region's economic growth and transformation while promoting international cooperation. Now, the project has successfully been implemented and the many technical colleges and universities continue to build skills for #intelligent manufacturing and transportation, #AI-powered logistics, #green technologies, #newenergy, and preservation of traditional skills such as high quality tea production and cultural preservation. This week we are facilitating a knowledge exchange with #education and #tvet leaders from our #dmc partner countries in #Centralasia and #caucuses - our #carec country clients (and Asian Development Bank (ADB) colleagues) are having a fascinating experience learning about #guangxi's remarkable inclusive education and economic transformation while experiencing its vibrant and diverse ethnic minority culture, thanks to ADB-PRC Regional Knowledge Sharing Initiative CAREC Program Mamatkalil Razaev Navin Twarakavi Smita Gyawali Two important takeaways - 1) institutionalised partnerships with industry for curriculum, teaching and job training; 2) continuity of leadership.

Today in Astana, we hosted the first event in an important step toward creating a Regional Fund of Funds (FoF) for Central Asia and the Caucasus. This initiative is about more than just building a financial instrument—it’s about creating a sustainable ecosystem to unlock the potential of our region’s startups. Initiatives like this require alignment between governments, development organizations, and private investors. Yesterday’s workshop was a powerful example of what’s possible when these groups come together. I want to thank our partners—USAID'S FUTURE GROWTH INITIATIVE , Digital Ministry, and Astana Hub —for their dedication and collaboration and Asian Development Bank (ADB) for initiating this discussion. Together, we’re laying the foundation for something transformative. With the right vision and partnerships, this Fund of Funds can catalyze an entirely new era of innovation and economic growth in Central Eurasia.

Since its inception, the CAREC Program has facilitated regional integration and development through substantial investments in transport, energy, and trade facilitation, enhancing regional connectivity and developing economic corridors. Under the CAREC 2030 Strategy, the CAREC Program has strengthened its position as a multi-sector regional cooperation platform under its broadened operational scope. In November 2024, Ministers endorsed the Midterm Review of the CAREC 2030 Strategy, to reinvigorating regional cooperation amid the evolving global and regional landscape and emerging challenges, including responding to diversity, building resilience to future pandemics, navigating geopolitical developments, and addressing climate change. #CARECProgram #CAREC2030
