Strengthening community health care through the NCD LOVE Project in Talim Island On January 9-10, over 80 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) were trained on Safeguarding, Gender-Based Violence, and Gender Intersectionality, ensuring they are equipped to support and protect those at risk, especially women and girls. As frontline responders, their role in building safer and more inclusive communities is crucial. Gender influences an individual’s health, access to services, and vulnerability to violence. Women and girls, in particular, face unique health risks due to gender-based discrimination, limited access to healthcare, and a higher risk of violence. Understanding these dynamics helps health workers provide more responsive and equitable care. ---------------- The #NCD LOVE (Non-Communicable Diseases Localized Ownership and Value-driven Empowerment) project aims to improve access to healthcare and empower local health systems to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Implemented by CARE Philippines and the Southern Tagalog People's Response Center - STPRC, Inc. with support from the #Tijori Foundation, the project focuses on strengthening community health through partnerships with local government units (LGUs) and community stakeholders. #ActOnNCDs #CAREAlwaysThere

In line with CARE’s Safer Roads Around the Globe campaign, we conducted a road safety and safeguarding session for our staff, partners, transportation service providers, and drivers on January 14. Road safety is a major concern in the Philippines. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) shows that road traffic deaths have gone up by 39% over the last ten years, from 7,938 deaths in 2011 to 11,096 in 2021 (World Health Organization). In Metro Manila, the problem is serious, with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reporting about 86,000 road traffic incidents in 2023, a big jump from the year before. This initiative aims to improve road safety and make transportation safer and more inclusive. It also focused on CARE’s safeguarding policies. It emphasized the importance of protecting the rights, safety, and well-being of everyone involved in or affected by CARE’s work. Key topics included recognizing and preventing different types of abuse, understanding how to report concerns, and building a culture of accountability and respect. #SaferRoadsAroundtheGlobe
