LOOK: ICSC Executive Director Angelo Kairos Dela Cruz spoke on the importance of utilizing #RenewableEnergy in achieving sustainable development at the 35th National Convention of the League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines, Inc. (LLPDCPI), held February 24-28, 2025 in Tacloban City, Leyte. Speaking in front of Philippine local government planners on February 26, dela Cruz noted the importance of the #EnergyTransition in #ClimateResilientDevelopment, highlighting its role in attaining economic growth and #CommunityResilience. Dela Cruz also cited the impact of ICSC’s energy work with communities in Eastern Visayas and the importance of local leadership in #ClimateAction, showing how transitioning to clean and indigenous energy sources can be a critical step towards a brighter, secure, and more sustainable future for all. “Eastern Visayas plays a significant role in terms of setting an example, setting a benchmark, and showing the proof of theory on why [ICSC’s work in sustainable development] can actually work … Our goal [here] was to start something that will cascade later on, and ten years later we are still here in Eastern Visayas, so maybe the model is working after all.” Photos (c) Salie Agustin/ICSC

We joined last Friday's midnight painting with the Sparking Active Mobility Actions for Climate-friendly Cities (#SPARK) Project. Supporting tactical urbanism activities like this helps increase visibility and encourages cities to develop roads that prioritize pedestrians and vulnerable road users. Additionally, these initiatives challenge urban areas—which account for more than 50% of CO₂ emissions—to promote active mobility, inclusive roadways, and policies, ultimately contributing to climate solutions The #SPARKProject is a joint project by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI), in partnership with the local governments of Quezon City and Pasig City.
