Head of Platforms @ Amini 🌱🛰️ | Building the data backbone for the global south 🌍 | Impact-led technologist | 💫 2020 VentureBeat's AI Rising Star
Roundup of a successful trip to the Philippines 🇵🇭 I'm grateful to have been able to experience Filipino hospitality on a work trip, and meet pioneers, researchers, scientists and engineers in the country who are advancing AI, satellite technologies, 5G/6G telecommunications, and digital twin analytics to solve the most pressing issues in the country from climate adaptation, floods and disaster response, remote island tele-health, education, and food security. 1. Philippine Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), National Center for AI Research (NCAIR) and the Philippines Consulate-General of San Francisco Office (PCGSFO) deep-dive on AI use case, capacity development, and closing the compute divide to build sovereign compute and AI factories in the country. 2. University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman National Engineering Center (NEC) and UP Engineering R&D Foundation Inc (UNERDFI) to discuss how we can help build capacity and advance AI research in the country using geospatial technologies and GPU-enabled compute. 3. Ionics EMS welcomed us in their Smart Factory developing and designing telecommunications, medical, and electronics hardware, with factory analytics using digital twin and IoT sensor technologies. 4. Asia OpenRAN Academy and OpenRAN alliance to develop and enable the Philippines to build capacity and leapfrog in next-generation wireless communications, like 5G, 6G and beyond. It had also been timely to experience Typhoon Carina's intense rain and floods during our visit to make it even more necessary to build solutions for the Philippines now that could help the country adapt to climate change and alleviate the destructions caused by extreme weather events. I'm looking forward to going back some time in the very near future to continue contributing to the advancement of the Philippines tech ecosystem for the most pressing issues.
