The scope of work of the Internal Auditor is to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of the risk management, internal control and governance processes of PEMSEA, its projects and managed properties, as designed and represented by management, to ensure the achievement of the following management objectives: a. Proper identification and management of risks; b. Accuracy, reliability and timeliness of significant operating and financial information; c. Compliance with policies, standards, procedures, applicable laws/regulations and governance processes; d. Economic and efficient use, and safeguarding of resources; e. Quality and continuous improvement in the organization’s operating and control processes; f. Achievement of the PEMSEA’s goals and objectives.     𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐨𝐰: ROK-PEMSEA Marine Plastics Project joins the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee's fifth session (INC-5) exhibition in Busan, RO Korea! 🌏🌊 The session aims to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-5). The event is currently being held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, from 25 November to 1 December 2024. PEMSEA and the Korean Government, through the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (대한민국 해양수산부), are actively working together to reduce marine plastic pollution in the East Asian Seas region which contributes to various global agenda.

    🌏The 𝐆𝐄𝐅/𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐏/𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐈𝐑𝐁𝐌) 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 recently hosted a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop during the EAS Congress 2024 in Xiamen, China. The event brought together project teams, including national implementing partners and local government representatives from the seven river basins across six participating ASEAN Member States. The workshop identified key stakeholders, their concerns and sensitivities, and developed actionable strategies to enhance engagement and collaboration within the six IRBM Project countries. Supported by the Global Environment Facility, the IRBM Project aims to set-up functional management mechanisms in priority river basins of six ASEAN countries to reduce pollution and sustain freshwater environmental flows as well as adapt to climate change vulnerabilities. The Project is being implemented by UNDP and executed by PEMSEA in collaboration with ASEAN.

    𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 celebrates the 'Humans of East Asian Seas.' Partners new and old had a wonderful time celebrating friendships and shared goals during the Partnership Night of the 8th East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress, held in the evening of 7 November at the sprawling Grand Ballroom of the Xiamen International Convention Center. Dr. Vann Monyneath, Chair of the EAS Partnership Council, opened the night with a message of gratitude and collaboration. Representing PEMSEA’s Executive Committee, Dr. Monyneath emphasized the vital contributions of the PEMSEA Resource Facility, the Ministry of Natural Resources of China and the Xiamen Municipal Government in making the 8th EAS Congress an unbridled success. Traditional Xiamen performances through music and dance mesmerized the audience, who rekindled old ties and shared new tales throughout the night. The evening event also honored the recipients of the ‘Humans of East Asian Seas’ awards, acknowledging 30 individuals for their transformational change for the East Asian region. Top awardee Ms. Masako Bannai Otsuka shared a heartfelt message on behalf of all ‘Humans of East Asian Seas’ awardees. Led by Executive Committee members and Dr. Chua Thia-Eng, the awarding served as a highlight of the evening, bringing attention to the inspiring efforts of all honorees. A rousing message from Deputy Director General Wang Antao concluded the evening festivities, which ran well into the night. This essential resource provides local governments and river basin organizations with a clear framework for monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, helping to ensure cleaner rivers and healthier ecosystems.    The IRBM Project applies the Source to Sea (S2S) approach across seven river basins in Southeast Asia. The SORB reporting system plays a crucial role in this initiative, offering valuable data to support river basin management by assessing the health of river ecosystems.
