The 4th Annual EcoScope General Assembly (Nov. 5–7, 2024) brought together 46 esteemed researchers from 17 countries at the Balearic Oceanographic Centre in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Participants shared key updates and strategies across its eleven work packages to drive sustainable fisheries and promote healthy marine ecosystems in various European seas. 🌊 🪸 Q-quatics’ Dr. Deng Palomares (Science Director) and Ms. Kathleen Reyes (AquaMaps.org Theme Lead) contributed to discussions in tackling #ecosystemdegradation, highlighting progress in Clusters A and C of the work packages. They also helped shape plans for the #EcoScopeAcademy, the project’s educational pillar, set to launch in 2025. The EcoScope Academy will offer a diverse array of resources, including online courses, webinars, hybrid programs, interactive games, and self-paced modules designed for postgraduate and undergraduate students, young scientists, and policymakers. #EventAnnouncement: Registrations are open for the second edition of the workshop: 🦈 “Sharks of the Maldives: Introduction to field-based research and monitoring techniques” 📅 5 to the 12 April 2025 📍 Liveaboard M/Y Island Safari 2 in the Central Atolls of the Maldives This workshop is made possible through the collaboration of the MaRHE Center at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Shark Research Mexico, and White Wave Maldives. During this workshop, participants will work alongside marine scientists on a scientific expedition in the Maldives, where they will learn, dive and train in scientific monitoring techniques. The goal of this expedition is to introduce you to both theoretical knowledge and the practical skills necessary for conducting, assisting and supporting research projects focused on shark population surveys and data collection.
